Splenda
I am so partial to most of the African coffees! And oooh aged sumatran..... My ex-H decided that I would no longer be drinking expensive coffee, I would only be drinking canned coffee like everybody else. He was gone within the week. Of course, one of the first things I did when I started my exhile was go to the 2 local coffee houses and ask about the availablity of African coffees. I thought the one guy was going to propose marriage then and there. Or at least, pledge his undieing love...

my other half is displeased /nervous
Hey Nick! My DH has been banded for two years and it really hasn't affected our dining experience much. (occasionally he will have a BP and will need to make a hastie retreat to the rest room...) It will give you the perfect excuse to linger over a dinner now. Change is hard for many people, fear of the unknown... There are several people here who have had discussions with their SO about this.

Arrghhhhhhhhh!
oh Kendra, very sorry you had your first golfball... and at a Renfaire! At least it was after hours... I know what it's like being on site, and not being able to have what you need. It isn't like you can easily just go out and get something bandster friendly. Next week, you will just need to remember to bring some band friendly foods. You did the best you could, right?

i dont think its working
Dallas honey, once you get your fill, I believe your attitude will change I am only now starting to be hungry, and won't get my first fill for a month. I have, however, lived with my husband's band for the last couple of years.... Oh yeah, you will be needing the baby bite

Job offer in Africa - food question
My university has an African night every year, and the food is just great. One of my mush/soft favorite foods is an African dish called Irio... One the great things about the band is that we generally don't have any weakness from it, per say. Yeah, we ALL want to know about this job!

What's your favorite 'Food Lube'???
Yeah, I thought it was ... odd too. I think one of the problems we face is finding a low-cal food lube...

What's your favorite 'Food Lube'???
I've just moved to solids and I am finding issues with some meat and needing a "lube." Tillamook makes a lovely fat free sour cream, and I love all varieties of mustard, but some times mustard just isn't the right choice, nor is sour cream always the right choice. I've seen all these new flavored mayos, but I haven't tried any of them. I'm thinking mayo=way to many calories. Since I prefer the fat free miricle whip, I thought I would mix up some miricle whip based lube. Pat, my nutrishonist told me that olive oil is good for your heart as is. Helps raise the good cholesteral (not that I have to worry about my cholesteral levels...)

Splenda
I use spenda for lots of things. But never in coffee! (I"m a coffee snob) Capt'n Jack likes stevia, but I haven't tried it yet. (I just found it in the health food section)

Support for my spouse
AH ha ha ha ha My DH did the same thing about my coffee, but just once... He felt that I was spending too many calories on my morning bowl of coffee.... I showed him the daily total of how many calories I eat, and well, once he saw that I generally over around 1000 to 1200 calories, he got real quiet. That is another thing you might think about Sara, track your calories with her. I'm not talking everyday, but it might be that y'all track together just a couple days a week, or month just to get a "feel" of the amount of calories. The first week or so will be the toughest, since that is when we feel like dirt.... really crummy the first couple of days, but many of us start feeling our oats again by the 3rd or 4th day. Be ready with lots of "poor baby"s and foot rubs.

Actually, I believe that paying for the gym membership is a Good Thing. When one is say, 100 pounds over weight, it is difficult to think about doing healthy things like going to the gym or running marathons or training for the Iron Man triathalete. But drop those pounds and I think I will be a fire ball....

cramping?
Jenna, I know one of our members mentioned using a "binder." maybe search on that?

Support for my spouse
Hi Sara, I think the best thing you can do is to NOT be the food police. Your spouse knows what she needs to do, and what she doesn't need. I know that if I had nagged my DH (dear husband) when he makes food choices I question, it wouldn't have done any good. Encourage her to read, read, and then read more. Go ot local support groups if they are available. Be understanding that this is a slow process, not a magic band. Be understanding when she hits a plateau, and encourage her when she needs it.

5 Days Until Banding and I'm a WRECK!
There are a lot of folks here that have stopped watching TV just because of the commercials! They don't bother me, but I more listen to tv than watch it. Yeah, Some how I don't think I would take food from a giant puppet that was outside my window. Probably just me though Okay, things to stock up on... trashy novels of your favorite style, trashy movies of your favorite style. I really like the watermellong sugar free Jello ... popcicles and fudge bars. Some sort of gas drops... When I was at your stage, I thought for sure I would wear a hole in the carpet from all the pacing I did. I was super freaked, but the folks here helped me get through it just fine

How much did your lapband cost?
Hey Joe! We've had a thread about low BMI folks getting the band. I'll bump it for you. One think to keep in mind that one person's low BMI is another person's 100 pounds over their "ideal" weight. 300 pounds looks a lot different on your 5'18" frame than it does on a woman who is only 5'2"... My band was 100% covered by insurance, including fills.
