  1. one of my sister's hens, Henny-penny lived to a ripe old age, which is very surprising given her little accident. (more on the best "chicken and ducktape" story in another post....) One day, my mother looked out the second story and was horrified to see Henni-penny in the mouth of my sisters dog. The poor chicken was terribly limp and begragged, and covered slobber. My mom ran outside (my mother never runs) with a broom to walop the dog for killing Henni-penny. Well, as soon as Tisha saw my mom, she opened her mouth, out hopped the hen like nothing ever happened. The dog was giving the hens "rides" all over the yard. She'd pick up a hen if she's decided the hen had wondered too far away and bring them back closer to the house.
  2. Hey Paula, dim sum is what I think of when I hear "chinese dumpling," although I suppose a won ton would be more in keeping with dumpling. Dim sum are wonderful little tit-bits of Chinese delicasies. There have only been a few I've not liked, but I've also never had the nerve to try the chicken feet. Tonight, brased lamb shank in a tomato and rosemary sauce, second half of the artichoke, and either the popcicle or a pudding.
  3. As far as I can tell, there is no such thing as normal. well, have you checked how many calories you are getting in a day? Are you still losing 1-2 pounds a week? I've just moved to solids, and i was a little worried that I was eating way too much. There is a huge difference in one of my little pots of liverwurst and cream cheese, and a plate of real dinner with veggies and stuff!
  4. omlette du framage, steemed artichoke, rootbeer popsicle
  5. Hey Trish, I thought it was time for your own medicince! This was my quote when I was in the same stage you are in, so I thought I'd bring it back for you... Our doubts are traitors, And make us lose the good we oft might win By fearing to attempt. William Shakespeare
  6. It never rains but it pours! Good grief! Can you delay your moving?
  7. ((((((((((Hugs Trish!))))))))))) Man you sure have waited for this! I am right there with you hon. Remember wht a basket case I was? You'll do fine! Honest!
  8. Hey Rae! As another Idaho Gem, let me formally welcome you to ... ta-da! LBT
  9. I think it will still be a while yet before the Band is the prefered bariatric surgery in the US. Part of the issue is that people see how fast they lose with the various types of by-passes. And since we live in such a "I want now!" socity (think of Veruca Salt's song form Willy Wonka), I think people will continue to press for the by-passes. According to my surgeon, they find that one of the revisions that they are doing with the by-pass patatints is the band. I think of those poor people who've had huge wacks of their innereds removed, only to get the band, when they should have had the band in the first place. I think as more people have the by-pass, and have troubles with that procedure, insurance companies are going to start looking at their cost/benifit analysis and decide that the Band is a much better alternative. Doctors will start looking at the lower mortality rate of Band patients, and the lower over all complication rate. Of course, there are unethical doctors out there, just as there are in any profession. So, that is my opionion.

Isn't it funny, Lisa here weighs 212, BMI of what, 32? and she's a size 22w. before my banding, I weighed 271, BMI of 47, and wore a size 24/22w. Again, proof that the scales lie. Thank you for sharing your stats Lisa . This has given me something to ponder.
  11. Sending you lots of white light your way! Hope you have as easy a time as I did!
  12. Hippo birdies, two ewes! Hippo birdies, two ewes! Hippo birdies deer Marie! Hippo birdies, two ewes!
  13. I don't know if it is the best advice for you, but I took valium when I needed it. For me, that was the best advice. Lately when I get really stressed, my asthma get worse, and when my asthma gets worse, that means hospital time. So... valium is the best advice for me. I also posted like crazy and tried to concentrate on my school work. Good luck, and post like crazy if you need to! (hugs)
  14. I've been thinking about this thread lately, so I thought I'd revisit it. I've been banded a month now, and I too am tempet to evalgelize the band to some fat folk here at school. Amazing how one's view changes, no?

Hey Jenna, not all plastic surgery is cosmetic. My skin grafts are defineatly not cosmetic, allthough the wafle pattern on the larger on is ... decorative After my DH finally loses all his weight, his paniectomy won't be cosmetic. I think it is currently on a case-by-case basis. One thing we also need to keep in mind that the BMI is a scale, and we know scales lie! I know that the last time I had a BMI in the low 30's I wasn't fat. I look at the pictures now and wonder why I thought I was fat! (well, talk to my mother...)
  16. Mine was early, and I ended up needing a D&C a week after I was banded... Still flowing...
  17. I've pretty much stopped with the gas, but I do make the most amazing tummy rumbling noise! Rumble! Gurgle! giggle!

I haven't tried Chinese yet, by my DH has no trouble with Chinese, Thai or Japanese. I've only moved to solids myself... Yup, nothing is forbidden, it is simply what you can tolerate. Some things we should just have in much smaller quantities...
  19. NSV= Non scale Victory. These are the large and small victories that we have that have nothing to do with the scale. For many people, losing a dress or pant size is an NSV, for others it might be getting off one of their meds. For many people, the idea of turning down a gooey-chocolaty treat is the hardest thing to do. The fact that Mayra was able to turn down a favorite treat is a big deal for her. For you, it might not be turning down a cake, but turning down a candy-bar or pizza or a martini.
  20. It is rather suspecious that you've only had this on days you've eaten stawberries. It could be that you have an alergy to the berries? I would not have berries for a few days then have a a couple of berries. If you have the reflux again, you have a problem with the berries!
  21. Right Dayanne, I understand that walkabouts are dangerous, but I think we have a certian romantic notion about them here in the US. So, maybe a better example would be "out working with the sheep all day..." (the restaurants always have several sheep sheering tools on the walls too...
  22. Ah ha ha ha ha, I believe then that all men are the same! We have that same thing here! The only time my ex-husband would ever cook anything was when we were having bbq. He would think that just because he had dangly bits he could BBQ better than me. I just googled "australian food" and came up with a few sites. It looks like basic English food, which makes sense, but with some very unique twists.
  23. Wow Mike, that is amazing! I know I would like to hear more about your battles and obvious victory. Perhaps you could start a thread under Insurance? I think you have a wealth of information that others could really use! And Dell, please don't give up! We have many sucess stories of people who were in your situation! Who were initially turned down but who successfully re-presented their case and finally triumphed.
  24. /e giggles! Yeah, sorry, I thought for sure I described the place! Doh! My only excuse is that I got really good marks on an accounting test--much better than I thought I would do! Huzzah! The restaurants are decorated with things like digeridos (sp?), and boomerangs and bright paintings in the native style. The walls have wood panneling and has a very casual feel, like you could just tramp in all dusty from a walkabout. The food is nothing special, but it's nice. Foods are prepaired fairly simply, no fancy sauces or styles. They serve steaks (land rovers), chicken (Alice Springs chicken) and sea food (shrimp on the barbie). I certianly don't notice anything that is asian inspired, but I"m from Seattle and San Fransicso, so I probably have a different view of what is asian inspired verses someone from Pocatello Idaho...
  25. Kathy, I think in this case it is best not to borrow trouble--Call your Dr! Keep sipping that tea too, the warmth should help relax the stoma.
