  1. 3 poeple from Idaho! It's a virtual ground swell! I'm going down to Logan tonight, but my party is a little bit differnt than the one you are going to.... Congrats! And welcome to Bandlandia!
  2. no, I'm still awake. Still thinking that I'll never sleep again. But the good news is I just spent 11 hours on accounting homework. and watching old movies in TCM. I would have hated to spend that time doing something frivolous like playing video games or drawing... it comes down to drinking more coffee since it is 9:00 am ..... I am sooo glad it is Saturday!
  3. never drink 8 cups of diner coffee after 6:00 pm. I feel like I will never sleep again... (I normally restrict myself to ONE cup before 10:am...)
  4. You mean, right after the surgery or the next day? You aren't driving anywhere that day! I belive you would be impared under any country's laws. Some doctors don't want you to drive for several days. Riding as passenger, is a different story
  5. Gee, what a tough decision. I agree with Jenna, I think there must be a cultural reason. If you were to marry this man, you would be also marring his family. This is true for all marrages, but in this case it was be very close, perhaps too close for your comfort. Some people never move away. Ever. One of my sisters-in-laws still lives with my in-laws, she has never, EVER moved out. I believe her level of matureity reflects this. She will be 41 this summe. One of my cousins still lives at home with his Mommy. He's 42. I was engaged to a perfectly lovely man from Turkey when I was your age. Unfortuantely, well, he was Turkish. Very traditional, and well, I'm anything but. This was also a huge bone of contention between my ex-husband and me. He wanted me to be a little stay-at-home-wifey, and well, a two year old cannot provide me with the intelectual stimulation I require. (He couldn't either, but that is another matter.) (For all our stay-at-home-moms, I respect your decision-- it just wan't the right decision for me)
  6. count me in too! does walking a horse count ? seriously, I need to get a pedomiter.
  7. Welcome to the new crop of Bandsters! It would be getting crowded, except we are all getting smaller! Breathing deeply might be a bit uncomfortable, but your diaphram is probably still very sore. It just isn't used to being moved and shifted! But it is very important to try so you don't get any lung issues.
  8. I'll be going home in a few weeks, and I'm going to start bugging my DH to fix the motorcyle he bought for me. He bought me a Yamaha 500cc bike, and I think it is a virago model, but don't quote me on that. I do know it is one of the "V" bikes though. As a reward for my DH getting his band, I enrolled him in a motorcycle saftey class, since that is something he always wanted to do, but felt like his weight was a barrier. (he weighed close to 600 pounds when he took the class.... ) Okay a quick poll, how many have bikes, and how many are frequent riders? How many bikes to you own collectively? 2 what kind of bikes, and how big? both are Yamaha kawasaki Vulcan bikes, DH as a 750cc, mine is a 500cc do you always wear protecive gear? if not, why not? I always wore full-face helmet, gloves, boots, heavy jacket. or a rain-suit. Didn't always wear good pants. have you ever taken a safety class? yes, I took the CHP safety course have you every had an serious accident? Yes, please see below I used to be an avid rider. I say "used to" becaue I had a terrible accident when my son was a baby. Not only did I have to deal with the trama from the actual accident, but I also had to deal with doctors from hell who thought it would be a good idea to torture me and inflict emotional damage. (they would debreeed my leg without any pain medications, then yell at me for crying and tell me things like "so I guess you won't ever ride a motorcycle again, RIGHT?!) I had to have one of the skin graphs redone a few years back, and the plastic surgeon who did the new one was an avid bike rider. He told me that every couple of years someone would come in in such terrible shape that he would sell his bike. Then he would buy a new one a year or so later. He really encouraged me to start riding again.
  9. I was back in classes a week after my surgery. I was still a bit tired after a full day, but I had other stuff going on too, non-band related. I was riding horses two weeks after my surgery. And a bike is much easier... for one thing, you don't have to clean a bike's feet before you can ride it! I wouldn't want to pick up either one though... That would be the biggest concern as far as I'm concerned. (of course, horses are self righting. )
  10. sooo, are boas compusary? HAHAHA I can just imagine the look on the TSA guy's face when they start pulling turkey feather boas out of my lugage...

  13. Welcome to the Banded Gentry Alatina! My first week I mostly slept, although I went shopping at Trader Joe's the morning I got out of the hospital. (I stayed overnight) Watched several DVDs, went to the movies, read trashy novels, drove the 11 hour drive to my exile. Okay, I didn't actaully do the driving, my DH drove, I mostly slept while he drove) And you will need to create a new ticker each time. I think the only tickers that automatically update are the ones that count down to something.
  14. here is a parallel thread on this same topic! http://lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=5639&page=1&pp=15
  15. bumping for Connorsmom. I've lost an average of 4 pounds a week, but I dropped about 10 pounds the first week, mostly Water weight. (I had terrible edema so, I'm thrilled with those first 10 pounds!)
  16. I need to be much better tracking my excersizing .... Okay, walked, and walked and walked. Tuesday we learned to trot, so I spent the better part of two hours standing in the stirups learning to trot the right way, as opposed to being bounced to little bits. I was astounded by the sweat I worked up! I'm still very sore and stiff! This morning I did 50 crunches.

    Welcome to LBT Don!
  18. Lauren! Honey! 34 pound in 3 months is terrific! At the rate you are going, you will have lost 68 pounds in 6 months, 102 in 9 months and 136 pounds in a year!!!!!!! HELLO! You have lost an average of 2.6 pounds a week, with is HIGHER than the average loss rate!!!
  19. Hi Steve, I've never looked at ice cream as a demon, but then I have always felt that ice cream = love. My dad was an ice cream fiend, Cookies and ice cream! Some of my fondest childhood memories were where we all got a bowl of ice cream and cookies and sat around the TV watching the Smother's Brothers, or Sonny and Cher. There was no fighting, no hitting, no crying. The wolves were happy. (I was raised by wolves...) I will never give up ice cream, but like Alex, I can't imagine sitting and eating a whole pint in one sitting either. I generally eat my ice cream out of a martini glass. Silly I know, but somehow it makes the ice cream eating more... elegant perhaps. "moderation in all things" -- Terance (118 - 159 BC)
  20. Hi Lauren! actually, you are right on target for losing weight. The rule I've been told is that we should be losing 1-2 poundsa a week, and at 2 pounds lost in both weeks, you are going great! tick, tick, tick. One week, two pounds, week two, four pounds, week three six pounds...... It's additive, so after a month, you will have lost almost 10 pounds. Woot! I am currently losing one pound a week, not bad for not having a fill. Of course I want faster weight loss, Iwanteverythingnow, hurryup!Hurryup!HURRYUP!GIMME! If I continue with this rate of one pound a month, I will have dropped 52 pounds over the year. I can live with a 52 pound loss over a year! Beats the hell out of gaining 10, 15 or 20 pounds that I would probably gain, right? From what everyone says, the concensus is that the band does get looser as the day wears on. I don't eat much in the mornings, but it hasn't been my habit to have anything in the morning but my beloved coffee.
  21. Wow Vikka! a size 10! that is a tremendous NSV!
  22. Becky's getting her ba-and! Becky's getting her ba-and! Here's sending you whitelight and hope that your procedure goes as smoothly as mine did!
  23. Welcome to Bandlandia, and I'm sorry you are in such pain! I'm sooo glad you got a stronger perscription though!
  24. I walk every day, and work with horses 3 hours a week. (learned to trot this week, and good lord! I'm still stiff!)
