Would anyone give me advice on being alone after surgery. What creative things did you come up with? I'm having some issues tonight since I found out the friend I was counting on to come stay with me for a couple of days after surgery won't be able to make it due to things going on in her life that can't be avoided. The person who is going with me the day of surgery is wrapped in legal battles with her business partner (they are my bosses) and I'm a little up in the air as to whether or not she is going to get miffed and decide to not help me as well. I'm really feeling like a lot of people are expecting me to solve their problems and when I need help I'm left with me, myself and I. (Don't get me started on my condo assoc. Augh!) Suggestions on how to take good care of myself after surgery without help of any sort?

Hey Tuff

With a name like that , it doesnt seem like you will have any problems taking care of yourself after surgery. :)

Honestly you will be amazed at how little pain you will have and how you will be able to get around fairly easy. I know everyone is different but I was out shopping around town the very next day after surgery. You will be fine, just make sure you have enough liquids , Gas X and maybe some liquid tylenol on hand and you should do OK. Good luck

I would say you will be just fine. Make sure you go grocery shopping before your surgery so you have things like popscicles and juice and gas-x and Protein drinks on hand. You may not feel like driving anywhere for a few days.

Get your prescriptions filled before your surgery too, that will save some bother.

We'll be here for you!

I think you will be fine as long as you have the things on hand that have been recommended so far. I hope you have someone to drive you to and from surgery though. I don't think you will want to drive yourself home!

I didn't need any help when I came home, in fact it felt good to move and get things for myself. Like Crystal said, make sure to have all your stuff bought so you don't need to go get things. You will be fine!

Thanks for the tips everyone! I'm getting banded here in Washington State and it was looking like I was going to have to go to my preop and surgery by myself. Having a "support" person at the preop is mandentory at the Wish center. I think it's a little silly to make it mandentory. I get my best support right here. Today someone else has offered to go to the preop and drive me home so won't have to drive myself. Whew! Was doing my best to figure out how I was going to manage that one!

One tip.. you may not want to lie flat on a bed for the first few days. Without help, it's extremely hard to pull yourself to an upright position. A recliner may be suitable, especially alone. I know I thought I was going to rip all my stitches the first few times I tried raising myself from lying flat. Scary..

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
