Eating alot after surgery
Bandster - I am not as strong as you think - I am no diff from you - If I had cheetos in my house - I would eat them I love puff cheetos - so I just keep the bad stuff out of the house - I am a fat chick too - with food issues. Plus I have 27 yrs on you. I have been fatter and fought my weight for more years than you have been alive. Age does have it's benefits (except my legs look like they belong to an 80 yr old lady:eek:) I could be a diet coach - run a WW meeting - I can tell you how to do it - but until I was banded never followed what I knew for more than a few months. I guess also I researched this for the last 2 yrs - lapbands weren't covered by insurance 2 yrs ago - but now they are - I didn't want bypass - I think all the research and my over 50 gang - really pounded into me that the band is only a tool - so I was prepared. I am so glad to here that your will power is now 10 fold - that's great:clap2: We have the tool that enables us to regain our will power.. Good Luck to you...

Glad you are getting your protein - I tivo Biggest Loser will watch tonitee. What is making you slime????

Eating alot after surgery
Imb - I am sorry that you are having such a hard time - but my 1st question is why did you get banded in the first place - Did you think that the band was going to do all the work for you .. You do have self control - it is just buried so far down in your brain because you haven't used it is so long that you forgot how,.. I don't mean to be mean here - but there are alot of people who also see a shrink about their food issues. This may be something you might want to look into - since you are on a self destruction road here. You are risking your band by eating when you aren't completely healed - ie the the reason for the post op diet. Your stomach is stiched around the band - and when your stomach digest food it's pulling on that - which isn't heal and can come loose and cause your band to slip.. You can not get a fill only 2 weeks out - fills are usually given at about 6 weeks. Again - you are relying on the band to do the work - the band only does 25% of the work the other 75% is up to you. Even with the band you can be full but still want to eat (head hunger which the band does not help at all) - and the way it sounds you will continue to eat after you are full which will cause you to pb - which in turn can cause your band to slip. They banded your tummy not your brain and truly that's where the problems is at in our brains. You need to call your doctor ASAP and talk to him about your situation maybe he can direct to someone who can help you.. I really think that you need to take responsiblity for you and your actions You are an adult and you can do this - you gotta take the words "I can do it" out of your vocabulary - Please call your doctor - that's what he is there for No you aren't the only person doing this - but you are in the minority and what does it matter if others are doing it - it doesn't make it right bandster - i understand what you are saying to a degree - but I disagree about the will power - it goes to the self control above - we have it - we just never used it when it came to food. I guess i am about the only person on this board - but I don't find that my band makes me less hungry and i have restriction. I still want to eat - I love the taste of food - i can eat dinner and 1 hr later am hungry again - So when people say they aren't hungry cuz of the fill- I don't get it - ya i can't eat more than 1 cup of food - at one time - but if i wanted to I could graze all day... The way I control what i put in my mouth is by the decision I make at the store -I plan my meal and if you don't have junk in the house you cant eat it.. Timeforeme - RIGHT ON WELL SAID -:clap2::clap2::clap2::clap2:

Lapedtolive - Congrats on your anniversary... Make an appointment for a fill and make healthy food choices - those pounds will come off.. Distant You and I are in the same boat - this is why I was posting about questioning if fills are more phyisoclogical - I didn't get a fill on 12/21 cuz I had lost 17.5 - but I go back on the 21st this month - he wanted to go with Feb - but I said no lets do January = plus i need to go for my blood work. Sliming - IMHO i think it's your bodies reaction to food not going down easily - it produces the saliva to lubrecate you so the food will go down - i don't think it has anything to do with the amount of water your drink. This is just dr. janet's common sense kind of thinking :0) - I really can't state it as a fact. Try cutting your food up into half square inch bites then chewing each bite 40 times. Experimenting with this is much cheaper and better for you than getting an unfill.

Last night I was eating steak and my 1st 2 bites were stuck for 1 minute or so before they passed because I wasn't paying attention to what I was eating. I remembered the advice about bite portion and chewing and it worked for me.
Hey Ssankofa we haven't heard from you in a while - How are you doing!!! Karri - I would just do what he says - take it slow and easy. This whole Doctor issue sort of bugs me - ok say I move to where you live - what would I do.. I do have insurance but - still the way my doc talks - they don't like to see other doc's patients. That's crappy that he charges soo much - Kari - it's drink something hot to open your band . Why were you on a vent for 3 weeks - OMG that's scary... Our ports are in the same place.. Mango - Dean for middle school - OMG i feel for you... How's everyone doing tonite - I was super busy today - so never got a chance to post - All is well on my side of the world, just another day in paradise ...

Jigglepuff I am right there with you - I am a night time eater and even will wake up 1 a.m. want to eat.. I budget my calories to cover my night time Snacks - I will have 1 or 2 sf choc puddings - or sf fudgecicle or the snack size popcorn and eat one piece at a time.. And during the middle of the night will have a little lite oj or cran-grape juice - seems to be working for me.... My whole family are night time eaters - i say our mom never weaned us from the bottle. Good Luck with the battle..........

Karri I know that on my last fill it took some time for it to tighten up. Sounds like that's what yours has done. My doc does blind fills - the only time i did the fluro was the night of my surgery (banded at 7 a.m and went like 5p.m) they gave me something lemony tasting and I was so thristy it didn't taste band. If I were you I would see if that other doc will take you - I know it's a long way and you have bad weather - but you don't want to hurt yourself. Becareful... My port is above my belly button to the left - its about 4 inches belwo my bra sits - so like you where near my bra - I had to wear elastic waisted pants when i first was banded cuz the buttoned ones made the port hurt even though it's not that close I have read where some doc's put the port right below the middle of your breast bone.. My port hurt the longest - I want to say 2 week but it could have been longer Mine doesn't stick out either - I can feel it - but you know what i am remembering - it did seem to stick out more when I was first banded - She is still healing.. OK here is my motivation for the evening - I went to the gym not really feeling it today - so i said - oh just do 2 miles and then go home - well i did my 2 miles - and said to myself lower the speed a tad - and do one more mile. Well, that's what I did - I know there is a lot of debate over intenstity vs lenght of time exercising - but i figured that I might not have worked out as hard - but i did keep moving for that extra mile - so i burned more calories - OK I am off to tv and my book... Ck back later...
-
Whee!
ditto..... I was thinking that 2 Well - on my way to the gym - will ck back later
-
Whee!
I agree 100% ... I know i am not the boss of anything or anyone - lets just make an executive decision and that's what this thread will be 50-99 lbs to lose from your band date....

The I Hate Exercise But Going to Learn to Love it Thread
Patty I too dislike exercise. There was no such thing in grade school as P.E. so I just wasnt trained that way Prior to being banded I was a total slug bug.. I hate being hot !! When I dance, clean house - move period - my head sweats like a pig... But I know that exercise is the key to losing weight - once along time ago - i took some dance classes for fun - tap - ballet & jazz - I lost 20 lbs without ever changing any eating habits. Right before I got banded a gym opened up across the street from my house - so I joined - I bought an Ipod - loaded it and went. At first I could barely do a 20 minute mile and I was dead after that mile - but just kept going back - I am now doing 16 or 17 minute mile and for some songs push it to 4.0 (15 minute mile) - I am up to 3 miles most days - some days just 2 miles and everyonce in a while 4 miles (usually on Saturdays) I exercise 4-5 days a week I contribute the exercise to my weight lost - you see I do want to eat and have a treat every now & then - In order to do that I MUST exercise - do I love it - NO - but I am learning to like it and I like what I am seeing in the mirror - Me in a size 12 pair of pants...

How this works ???
Ok I have a questions - are these new forums weight groups for what you have left to lose or what you had to lose from your surgery date?? I originally had 90 to lose - have lost 59 have 31 to go...
-
Whee!
Ok love the new forum lay outs !!! My way of thinking is that is should be how much you had to lose from your date of being banded - not what you have left to lose.. I had 90 to lose from the date I got banded - have lost 59.5 have 30.5 to go to goal.. jmho.....

How is weight loss for people over 50?
OMG I haven't been a 7 since i was in my teens & early 20's. weighed 117 - 120.. I'm 5'4 - so am a tad taller... I will be happy with a 10 - as long as I don't have to shop in the plus size stores...

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Yes being single (except for my Grandson) it is very easy - I don't know what I would do if I have to really cook for someone else - my GS is easy so it's no biggie - he's gone half the time anyway... My Xdh didn't like fish - so I would be up a creek - I don't have as many temptations in my way... :pYep have on a size 12 pair of pants today:p I now have 2 pairs - a pair of slacks and some ralph lauren jeans... I have never been a 12 before - 14 or 13 juniors is the smallest I ahve ever been...

Mango - they make benadril (sp) strips that dissolve on your tongue Karri - I am pretty sure she was – but who cares … I got a p.m. from – I don’t remember her screen name – but real name Jen – thanking me for my post – she thought she was abnormal – for following the rules and not cheating – She wanted to know where to go to get motivation – I invited here to our lucky #7.. You give teachers a good name – you will have inspired someone with your dedication – We all have a teacher who we just loved… I think you are that kind of teacher…

im 1 week out and eating!
Take the word "DIET" out of your vocabulary... This is not a diet - diets don't work - as soon as you go off your diet and return to normal eating habits you gain all your weight back and then some. So that is telling you that what you consider normal isn't.. With the band we have a lifetime lifestyle change in our eating - healthy low fat - low sugar and exercise Yes I would get gas pains in my shoulder after eating sometimes - as for the swallowing - I can swallow ok - if I am tight and I take a big drink of Water - it takes a bit to go down...

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Marlena - CONGRATS on Onderland :clap2: Real Chocolate Candy - I just don't do it - I don't start - Not one piece of See's passed my lips over the holidays - did allow myself xmas cookes that I made with Grandaughters & tamales that I made with DIL - but that was it... I find that i can satisfy my craving for choc with my double choc sf puddings & healthy choice fudgecicles which are sf and have only 80 calories... Michelle - I had cookies that were to deliver to a freind - but never made it to their house - I had finished my allotment - I took those that were left and threw in the trash - they were covered in plastic on a paper plate - then I realize that due to the fact that they were covered I could go back - so i took them out and crumbled them up so i couldn't go back.. I bet there isn't a fat person who hasn't done this you are normal - well at least you and I are NMSunshine I want to you to THROW THOSE DARN CANDIES AWAY NOW.... You can do it - walk over to the trash throw them in and pour something over them... Do it now - Do not let stupid choc win over you - they are the devil... They are doing nothing but hurting you..... Throw them away NOW..... Better in thee than in me..... Your new mantra... xoxox Janet P.S. - My NSV for not eating candy - I have a size 12 pair of pants on....

Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters
Ruby - When I am bored I get on the computer or get up and do something - and if that hungry crap doesn't leave then I make a snack pack of popcorn - and sit and eat 1 piece at a time.. When those graze days hit me - I just find low calorie food to graze on... As to the mean people out there - one girl didn't like what Karri & I said on doing the Dec thread where people were eating on week one - said we or it could have just me - that we were too Preachy.. So be it - some people don't want to be held accountable/resonsible for their actions - Also there are some who just come across as mean - there was a big fit about people who chose their goal weights to high - that they still had a bmi that was considered overweight.. Just like me i have a goal weight of 160 which gives me a bmi of 27 i think - to have a normal bmi my goal weight s/n 145 - there are some out there who don't understand why my goal isn't to be 100% at normal bmi - and for those who did get there - people were saying they are too skinny... It was really funny to see them sparing - I read that stuff all the time and even post - I told them for me to be at 145 - i would look like sh*t due to my age and saggy skin - so I chose 160 as a comfortable weight ... I don't care what these people think about me - we are all in tittled to our opnions. Kari - Also once you hit reply if you scroll down past the manage attachements - there is topic review - it shows what everyone has written... When you DH buys the junk - bag it up and tell him to put is somewhere out of your sight - Marcy - On your friend with the sleave - I have looked at it - Wasabubble butt has talked about it - they have a board just like this one - It's like a permant band - they don't redirect your intesntes but the sew up your tummy so you just have a little one... But if she thinks any WLS is the fix - as we all know she is so wrong... Jeanie - Thanks - me being the Cheerleader helps me just as much as it helps other - It reinforces my reslove to get this weight off. WW - they have a website - you can join on line - they have GREAT recepits... When I first did WW is was exchanges - Now it's point - they take your what you should weigh for your height & built and say you should have 28 points as day to loose weight to get to that weight. It's based on low fat - low or sf - so a serving of progresso soup is 0 point - so that means it's free - a serving of meat depending on the size is so many point - you eat until your points are gone - you count points instead of calories - but it's all the same - WW is about eating healthy but you aren't limited in what you eat - it teaches you protion control go to their website http://www.weightwatchers.com/index.aspx It is the basis of my eating. All that cheerleading I do is what I learned in my WW meetings... You go to weekly meetings weigh in (accountablity) and listen to the speaker tell you all this motivatiional stuff - secerts etc.. I guess becuase of WW nothing is not allowed - you just have to deduct the points - it's all about moderation... I truly think that this has helped me so much - I guess I am lucky that i haven't really derailed - but time will tell - but these pants I have on today - i want to wear inside out so everyone can see SIZE 12 another great motivation.. Ok Jackie - you can walk out your front door and slip & fall and crack your head - you can be driving and some stupid ass runs a stop sign and hits you - Yes there are people who have troubles with their bands, infections - slips etc - Infection is just stuff that happend and the other complications - imho just might be due to the fact that hey haven't followed are the rules - what I have read if i remember correctly is that most of these people have had problems from day one.. You aren't having any problems - you don't have heartburn 24/7 or acid reflux - your port hasn't flipped - you are doing good - yes complication can and do happen to some but not to all of us - There is no use in worrying what can happen - Be happy that you aren't on of those who have had a complication and do all that you can by following the rules so that you don't have one - STAY AWAY FROM THAT THREAD if you are one who worries - I read it - but I am not a worrier... Karri - I to like a schedule - Affirmation for the day "take credit for the successes that you have achived and that will foster more success" OK gang it's taken 1 hour to get all this posted between called and people coming in my office. I tried to get on last night - but there was something wrong with my interent connection - I gotta get to work ck back later.. xoxo Janet
