SerendipityHappens got a reaction from Letty1 in I have tried and failed, will this really work?
I love juicing too! I have an Omega 8006 and up until I started this 12 week diet, I was drinking a green juice every day. I even did a 30 day juice fast in the past. I'm definitely sold on juicing! I hope that my new sleeve loves juice. I know that "juice" is to be avoided in the post sleeve world, I get it since most people think of juice as that syrupy sweet stuff devoid of all nutrition that comes from a bottle... but surely there is a place for yummy low-calorie, nutrient dense mean-green!

When you make yogurt, the probiotic bacteria eat up the lactose in milk and form yogurt. That's why plain yogurt is so sour... because the bacteria have eaten all the sweet lactose! This is how you can tell the difference between lactose intolerence and an actual milk allergy. Lactose intolerent people can have yogurt. Milk allergy sufferere cannot.

At 15 I weighed in the 230s. Personally I feel I would have benefited from doing the surgery during my teens. I know the Bariatric program near me is accepting patients at age 16 now.

Hello, I am 35 and started trying to get pregnant 1 1/2 year ago, before surgery. I started off weighing 326 lbs. I had my VSG on 4/29/2012. I am now 210lbs 8 months later and just found out today I am pregnant. Prior to starting, my dr have me the go ahead. All my labs are great and I feel healthy. I say you have you surgery and get healthy first because you risk yourself and babies life. Good luck

Having to plan all of my travel arrangements so that I can TRY to go during a time when I have a chace of having an empty seat next to me.. and then being worried that I'll be told I need a second seat... and once I get on the plain being worried I'll have to ask for a belt extender.
Not being able to sit in those white plastic lawn/party chairs.
Never finding good stuff at thrift stores.
Finally finding cute shoes that look good on me and then totally trashing them in a matter of weeks because they can't handle my weight.
Having a pannus. Yeah I know I'l stil have it after I lose weight but I'm getting that sucker cut off if I have to do it myself with a swiss army knife!

I've been spending a lot of time thinking about my long term diet. Right now I'm sold on eliminating all wheat from my diet permanently. I've been off wheat for two weeks and my joint pain has vanished so I'm sold! I'm not necessarily looking to be "low carb" forever just no wheat and minimal starchy carbs.

SerendipityHappens got a reaction from Butterthebean in BURNING MORE CALORIES THEN YOU EAT
Yay for swimming!!! As far as MFP numbers, I find it WAY overestimates calories burned for me. Maybe for someone with normal metabolism it is fine, but for me it wasn't working. I've finally embraced my slower metabolism as a good thing and am getting the sleeve done to help me better manage it. MFP treats weight loss like a pure numbers game but we know it's more complicated than that.

I make the refried Beans with black beans... soooooo much more delicious than the pinto.. (I also use a bit of extra garlic and cilantro in them) After surgery for my puree stage I'm thinking of making hummus blended together with some ground beef. Ground beef poured over hummus is delicious, so why not pureed with it? I dunno, it's worth a try. I've got a ways to go yet. I still have three months until my surgery.

MMMMMMMM. LOVE THESE!!! I do mine by putting a few Tablespoons of rice vinegar in a food processor with some shitake mushroom, ginger and carrot and chop everything up until it's fairly fine then I mix it with the egg white and turkey. Also for my sauce I use a LOT of ginger. And I roll it in the napa cabbage (Chinese cabbage) It's such a more delicate flavor than regular cabbage.
Thanks for posting this.. These little gems are DEFINITELY going on the post-sleeve menu.

SerendipityHappens reacted to Butterthebean in Most important preop question of all...
There certainly can be a mourning period. But think about how you feel about food now after a big meal, when you're stuffed and can't eat any more. You may see some more food that looks good, but you're really not interested. At 7 months out, that's how I feel all the time.

SerendipityHappens got a reaction from TheCurvyJones in Anorexic?
Anorexia is simply the absence of appetite. Anorexia Nervosa is an eating disorder where the individual is not only not eating enough, but is AFRAID to eat.
Unlike those suffering from anorexia nervosa, we are NOT starving. We can afford to live on so few calories per day because we've got lots of fuel in our bodies already in the form of stored fat.... Now, that said, there is a possibility that we can become anorexic in the future.. I mean anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder... and let's face it, most of us are prone to disordered eating already, so it could be slight possibility. I watched a documentary about a super-morbidly obese woman in the UK who had WLS and died from what amounted to complications from anorexia.

SerendipityHappens got a reaction from sexyjimenez in I need a sleeve buddy...please inquire inside.
Yes, it's as safe as a surgery can be. Real doctors, real hospital, real anesthesia. My doctor works out of a small but modern hospital in Tijuana. He does all of his surgeries with his partner, so I'm actually having two doctors working on me. He has done over 2500 bariatric procedures... He also has had some training in the USA.
Of course complications can happen anywhere and it would be more difficult to deal with so far away from home but fortunately with the best and most experienced doctors, their complication rates are very low.

SerendipityHappens got a reaction from LadyK in THATS not self control!
I used to argue with my ex all the time about what it means to have self control. He would buy a candy bar and put it in the fridge and leave it there. After three or four days I'd EAT it and several days later he'd come looking for his candy bar. He'd tell me I have no self control. I'd explain to him, "on the contrary I had a lot of self control. I thought of that candy bar thousands of times and only ate it once. 99.9% of the time when I thought of eating that candy bar, I didn't do it." Normal people don't understand how much we WANT to eat but don't. The sleeve is just a tool to make us feel more normal so that the self control that we DO have can be sufficient to allow us to meet our goals!
