  1. Looking back on this, I'm so happy I had this surgery. I'm 6 months out and find I can eat small amounts of everything I love(except chicken), I'm now at 216 when I started at 322. I've done two 5K's(walked, not ran), and I am no longer terrified of booths at restaurants or chairs with arms. It's not always been easy, but it's the best thing I could have ever done for myself.... plus, the other day a complete stranger told my guy friend that he thought I was hot!, I've never been hot! I've got a bit more to go, but I'm over halfway there and hopeful. I hope this might be a help to anyone who is on the fence about this surgery. If you have any questions about the surgery or recovery process, feel free to send me a message.
  2. Had my surgery on the 14th, and I felt the same way, after surgery the pain meds I took were only for the gas pains. I spent the first night at home completely unable to sleep and regretting everything. For me I found walking around a lot, plus a heating pad really helped. Now I'm 7 days post op and feeling much more like my normal self.

What an @$$. And that goes double for your best friend. I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. Rest assured that he'll be able to see that 43lb weight loss on you, and that soon he'll get to see you feeling healthy and fabulous, while he's still the same miserable jerk.

    Cheating? Already?!

My friend that used to work at a gym turned me on to the idea of adding peanut butter to my Protein shakes to cut that weird chemical taste. I use about half a teaspoon which is enough to lessen the taste, without just making the shake peanut butter flavoured.

    Cheating? Already?!

I wish my NUT diet allowed for soup, or even purees. The original plan for my hospital was that days 3-22 would be purees, but they recently changed it to just milk-Protein shake-yogurt-pureed fruit. I've changed it around slightly to keep myself sane and am now doing cottage cheese instead of the yogurt (gives me 10 more grams of protein), and have added a half-cup of cream of chicken soup, just for something warm with flavour. It seems to be keeping the worst of the hunger at bay, and gives me something to look forward to. Thank you so much to everyone for your replies, so glad I have this community to turn to. Friends are great, but they just don't "get" it the same way.

    Cheating? Already?!

Thanks guys, yeah, I keep seeing food and wanting it, but at the same time, I keep forgetting to drink my actual Protein shakes, which at least lets me know that most of the hunger I'm feeling is in my head. Saw on another board that someone suggested doing milk, unflavoured greek yogurt, and some mio for flavour in place of a Protein shake, and I'm definitely trying that tonight. The slimy fake sweet of every shake I've tried just kills me.

I look at this and want to hide in a corner.
  9. I had my surgery on 11/14 and I have the week off work while in recovery mode. Not sure if it's just boredom or the fact that it seems my husband has cooked nothing but bacon, waffles, and steak since I've been home, but I'm already so tempted to cheat.I even cooked a 1/2oz of steak today, and chewed it, then spit it out, just to get the taste of something that's not protein shake. Did anyone else have the same issues? And if so, how did you cope with them?

    Shorties...

5'3-5'4 depending on who measures... 322 when I started presurgery diet, 287 when i weighed myself at home the night before surgery. Surgery date 11-14-12, overnight stay, no drains, no catheter, intense CO2 pressure for the first few days, feeling pretty decent now. Weighed myself this morning, and in at 272.
  11. That is so awesome! Congrats! I'm at 272 now and am trying to get down to 200 before I'm a bridesmaid on March 30th. Thanks for giving me hope that I'll be able to get close!

    Normal Ever Come Back?

I'm now 5 days out and feeling a lot better than I was before, but yeah, every sip is met with some kind of gurgle or reply from my stomach, not to mention the sharp pain if I have anything without sitting upright. (Guess my posture will improve as well ). My problem is that my doctor wants me to spend the 3 weeks post surgery consuming only yogurt, milk, protein shakes, and pureed fruit, I'm on day 3 of this and am already soooo bored and hating protein shakes.
  13. I used to play the "well, I'm fat, but I'll never get so fat that I can't...." game. But then I did. I got so fat that it became hard to find pants that fit at Lane Bryant. I got so fat that sitting in stadium seats or booths at restaurants became a problem. I got so fat that going to an amusement park would have meant sitting on the sidelines while everyone else had fun. I had a friend turn against me and post all manner of mean nasty things about me regarding my weight and I couldn't defend against any of them. I realized I didn't want to be the person sitting at 50 wishing I had had the courage to have the surgery before I had all the comorbidity issues that plagued my dad before his RNY. So now I'm 4 days post op, and I hate not eating food, and I despise my protein shakes, and I'm depressed that my body forced me into something this major just to even the playing field, when i am surrounded by people who can eat what they please without gaining weight. BUT, I'm losing weight, and have the chance to be under 200lbs by the time I turn 30, when I haven't been under 200lbs since high school, and for me right now, that's reason enough to push through.
