I will tell you I hardly ever weigh myself. I am 8 weeks post op. I weighed at 4 weeks and 6 weeks. I go to the gym 5-6 days a week. I eat the best I can. I drink my Water and take my Vitamins. I love trying on clothes and I am amazed how fast the sizes go down. I am down 3 pant sizes and went from 2X shirt to X large. That tells me more than the scale ever will.

@@little_mrs We're all here to help, listen, commiserate and celebrate! It's really hard not to compare yourself with others here- I still do it at times, wondering how someone else who had their surgery at about the same time as me has lost so much more weight than I have before I shake my head and put things into perspective. Yep, I'm losing weight, which is fantastic. But what's even better is my blood sugars have dropped to normal proportions, my hip doesn't hurt anymore, and I actually saw the light (literally) between my thighs after I put on pantyhose the other day! (TMI for some, but hey, it was a major victory dance in the bathroom for me) Those kinds of things put a smile on my face- I try not to stare at scale numbers and attach my success to them.

Hello. I'm about 3 1/2 weeks out, and I had 6 months to prepare. Yet I felt the same way as you my first few days home. It was like, "Did I really voluntarily have a major surgery on my body, and now I can't eat certain foods like I used to? Did what happened really happened?" I noticed a couple of things now. One is that the pain, the sleepless nights, they get better everyday. Secondly, I notic that I'm really understanding my body better, and its needs. I'm walking everyday. I'm planning my Protein, Water, and pureed food daily, and I'm really enjoying this new outlook on life.
Just my thoughts to your post, which I though was excellent!

Yeah the left side. My Docs said that the left side is where they do most of the work, including inserting their stapler gun inside of us to stitch up our intestines and the abdominal muscle wall. So its "counterintuitive" but the more you walk (in spite of discomfort) the better you'll get. BUT remember to get your rest to because we just had major surgery.

And honestly, there really isn't a whole lot to do to avoid it. You just have to take chances and learn what your pouch likes now. I had the sugar free pudding and cool whip on my list from the doctor and I got dumping. Yet, I ate a chocolate covered strawberry the other day and I was totally fine. it's definitely a learning experience

I had my first and so far only dumping when I was about a week out. I am 4 weeks now and man it feels like it's been forever lol. so here's my breakdown of how it affected me. I had a couple tablespoons of instant Sugar Free Chocolate pudding and a tiny bit of sugar free cool whip on top. I was really enjoying it after drinking broth and Water all week. All was fine. I was sitting up in bed 20 min later and I felt a little crampy..nothing horrible, but enough to make me lay down and hold my belly. I fell asleep for an hr, and I woke up doubled over in pain. It was right above my belly button, and felt like someone was twisting my insides. I sat up rocking myself back and forth, it hurt so bad. Then I started to sweat, then I got the shakes really bad. I couldn't tell if I had to use the toilet or puke...I went into the bathroom and dry heaved for about 10 min, then I had diarrhea...all the while I still had that twisting pain in the belly. I got up and tried walking around my house because I started to get chills along with everything else and then a sense of severe panic...it messes with chemicals in your brain so some people really feel like they are going to die...it lasted for about 2 hrs, and finally after some more sips of water and trying to calm myself I ended up falling asleep. The next day I felt better, but it was just an icky blah feeling all day, I didn't want to eat or drink anything but zero Powerade. I can't even look at pudding now

Today was my first day back to work...I'm actually at work right now. LOL My surgery was two weeks ago yesterday. I didn't get an official notice from my surgeon to go back. But, I had to go back to work. I have bills to pay. lol I get off in about an hour and a half and I'm feeling great. However, my job is extremely sedentary. I sit at a desk most of my shift and I am on the computer. A job as a teacher is much more active than mine. So, I can only imagine how you feel. My surgeon told me that most people go back three to four weeks after surgery. I personally couldn't afford to be away from work that long.

I was really uncomfortable for about a week, and then it gradually began to subside. You will too! Drink, walk and protein..... Rest in there too. Remember your bod was assaulted and needs the time to repair itself.
Great wishes for a speedy recovery

With my gastric, complete pain free was 5 weeks. I was off the pain meds after two weeks and stuck with tylenol. It was manageable, but i was sore. I am starting 6 weeks and I have never felt better

By day 3 post-op for me, I decided to give it a go with no pain medication. I was very bloated too, and what really seemed to help was walking. As much as I didn't want to do it, I made myself get up and go out into the neighborhood and just walk around. It really helped- within just a couple of days, the bloating and "after-pains" were completely gone. Everyone's different though.

Maybe .. And I mean MAYBE, it could be that the majority of BBW are sincerely not happy being BBW and being with a BBM is just a reminder of what they dont like about themselves. It's like looking in the mirror all the time. In general, Women are way more sensitive to things that, for a variety of reasons, don't bother men. Just a thought.

I plan to post this as a separate topic, but I'll comment here as well. I had no pain on my incisions, and I had some discomfort on a drain my surgeon put in, but I had ZERO gas pains. My wife had the surgery a few months ago (different surgeon), and she battled gas pains all day long after surgery and into the night. My belly wasn't even bloated. When I went back for my 2 week post-op follow-up, I asked if they had sucked all the air out at the end of the surgery. They told me that they didn't suck out the air, but they've started doing something similar for patients. As the surgeon was setting up the drain, the nurse practitioner opened up the valves on all the tools inside me and let all the air drain out. She said that you could hear the air coming out like a balloon being deflated. After the drain was complete, she removed the tools and stitched me up. She had let all the air out that was going to cause me gas pains. WHY DON'T ALL SURGEONS DO THIS? My guess is that it might take too much time and keep them from making another dollar sooner on the next patient ... I don't know. However, I really appreciated my surgeon and nurse practitioner for doing this. They potentially saved me a lot of pain. For any future surgeries, I'm going to request it ... or rather INSIST on it.
