Sorry you had a bad day. Maybe you can try a different brand or flavor of Protein Shake. In the hospital they used optisource and it was 24 grams per 8 fl oz It from Nestle the strawberry tastes like strawberry nesquick if it's cold and the coffee tastes pretty good to if you like coffee. Normally I drink the pure Protein vanilla or chocolate, but I'm going to mix them up so I don't get sick of it. Great job on your walking that is most important. My incisions are also somewhat itchy guess that means they are healing. I also had acid reflux and take the 2 pills a day the Jello is the only thing that seems to bother me. Good Luck the 24th :*)

I am three weeks out from Surgery today! Saw my Nutritionist this morning and we made a plan to progress on to pureed foods for this week and then she feels as if my surgeon will progress into softs next week. I was so happy to go to the grocery store and buy something non-protein shake related!! So, cottage cheese, scrambled egg, greek yogurt, and pureed Soups are ahead of me now! Makes me happy!! haha!
I hope that all of my sleeve-siblings are faring well. From what I have been reading most everyone has gotten away with few side-effects. Thanks again for being my support through this all!!

Obviously how one feels after surgery is different for everybody. I was lucky, not too much pain just some discomfort, I was walking around the same afternoon. The gas pains are annoying but they go away fairly soon.
I had a specific plan to follow for the re-introduction of foods. One thing will remain the same, try to get in at least 64 oz of liquids every day and 60-80 grams of Protein.
Most people start with a couple of days of Clear Liquids, Isopure for Protein (you can buy it at Vitamin Shoppe or GNC) Decaf coffee and decaf tea, all sugar free non-carbonated drinks, chicken, beef or vegetable broth, SF Jello and SF popsicles.....after that full liquids including regular Protein shakes, creamy Soups, thinned out hot Cereal, thinned out yogurt, SF puddings, Jello.< /p>
After 2 weeks, move to pureed or mushy foods, hot cereals, softly scrambled eggs, soups, softly cooked meats and veggies (think crockpot meals) yogurt, cottage cheese with fruit, refried Beans with melted cheese, chili Beans, mashed potatoes with canned chicken and gravy, tuna and any soft fish, stuff like that. At this stage of the diet, I was still drinking 2 Protein Shakes to meet my daily goals and lots of decaf hot and iced tea.
At 4-6 weeks start introducing more solids, start slowly and see how you tolerate foods, move toward being able to get in at least 4 oz of a solid protein, then a non-starch veggie...try and stay away from carbs for the most part, if you do eat carbs have whole grains if possible.
At 6 months out I can eat most things but not very much of them. I do still drink a Protein shake each day, and sometimes a Protein Bar as a snack.< /p>
I was not hungry after surgery and it took a while to normalize and feel hunger come back, but not with a vengeance, and you get full so fast. I have 2 hiccups when I am full and that has happened since I had this surgery. A lot of people get these little burps/hiccups that signal fullness, or a runny nose, it's weird, but a good signal from the body.
I feel normal, just that I can only eat very small meals, but you have to eat right to keep losing weight and exercising. That has to continue ...so be prepared, the sleeve is a tool, but you still have to make the right choices.
I am so happy with my sleeve...down to a size 14 from a 3X-4X and I can walk for miles, and none of my old clothes fit, they are tent size on me....this is the best decision I ever made for myself.
    Good luck !!!!

I am eating everything fish, chicken, tuna, veggies. I had one bad experience with shrimp. I have been on solids since 11 days post surgery. I was tired last week, but feel pretty "normal" today 3 weeks post-op. My surgical team does not do mushies. I still cannot eat bread, rice, Beans and gas producing veggies. I am doing well with fluids. No Protein Shakes here. I get it all from food. I am enjoying my non citric fruits.

Well I actually had surgery in September. The gas can really be something else. I have a injured foot and it was a little hard for me to get up and move around, but move around if nothing but walking in the yard as much as possible. moving pushes the gas out and makes it easier to drink your fluids in the beginning.

Awwh..well Im only 5 days post op (oct 17th) so I cant give you much but I can say that the pain immediately after waking from surgery was an 8 or 9 on a scale of 1-10. BUT they had me hit my pain pump button (morphine) and it IMMEDIATELY went down to a 4 or 6 but bearable. Only thing with me is morphine makes me nauseaus so then they hurried up and gave me something for that that also worked immediately. So when I wasnt sleeping-that cycle continued for about 12 hours with the pain getting progressively better. The 2nd day-i didnt need the pump at all. Just occassional liquid tylenol. Was given Clear Liquids only AFTER I passed the "no leak " xray. I got very full very quick! Struggled to get the 4oz of liquids down each hour but I managed. Had to pee a lot so that was a headache to have to call nurses every 45 min to go lol. but really started feeling better the evening of 2nd day and was bored and ready for my own bed. Was released on oct 19th!

Hi! I just had surgery Wed and Im feeling pretty good. The pain is tolerable for me, nothing near excruciating. My advice, and I'm a newbie, is to walk and hydrate. Do not become sedentary once your home!! Drink as much as possible!!!!!! You will do great!!!!!!!

I would suggest you might feel better if you ate more Protein (say 3-4 oz each meal), with non-starchy veggies, and remove any other starches/carbs. Protein is metabolized more slowly than carbs, so you will feel "full" longer. My nutritionist recommends not adding simple carbs/starches to my meals until I'm able to eat 4 oz of protein first. I'm still only able to eat about 2 oz of protein at a time, so I don't worry about the starches. I'm 4 months post-op and haven't experienced any hunger. I can't help but think its in part due to my focus on protein.
    Best of luck!
