ortega07 got a reaction from MarinaGirl in Revision from Gastric Sleeve to Gastric Bypass-due to acid reflux?
I did sleeve to by pass bc of acid, no issues here! Recovery wasn't bad at all the second time. This time we knew right away which pain meds worked for me in the hospital, so no trial and error!!

Weight gain, bloating and bowel moments that u described, without he pain. I had to have an upper Gi done and the doc saw food was passing through my stoma way to fast. The area before the stomach was rounded like a ball. That made the food fill up and push through too quickly. That is causing my hunger to also be through the roof!

Let's see, starting weight 240, sleeve on 12/26/12. I'd say I dropped to 183. Revision to bypass 8/14/14 starting weight around 183. No reflux after revision. So here is the doozy, I got pregnant and had twins oct 2015. As of July 2016 I was 166. However, as of today I am back to 183 (my body is obviously comfortable here), even though I am not! I noticed weight gain from July until December (166-181). I had an upper GI done and my stoma is stretched. My pouch is fine, not stretched at all. So my stoma is rounded now which allows good to pass through too fast, so much so that I'm allllllways hungry. So now I am in the insurance stage for approval for a revision. At which time if approved my doc wouldn't either redo my bypass or staple the stoma so it doesn't gather food and push it through quickly.
Revision was easier than sleeve, mainly bc I knew what to expect and the pain meds I had the first time didn't help so I knew what they needed to give me from the start of recovery. My sleeve I was supposed to do one night but bc of pain I did two. My revision was two nights bc it was a revision and they needed to see how my body would react. My second revision would be one night stay. The issue I am having now with my stoma is rare, don't let it scare u. Oh and days off of work, sleeve I did two weeks but it was over xmas vaca so I had the time and just took it. Revision I think 4-5 days and mainly bc of being tired not bc of pain. Please ask me anything else!!!

Try the My Fitness Pal app. It works great for logging your foods. You can set it for the amounts/limits of Protein, days and carbs that your doc and NUT set for you. Mine is 60 grams of Protein, 30 grams of fats, and 100 grams of carbs per day. I also keep track of weight, daily Vitamins, exercise etc. The app can be used on your computer or phone. It's been a lifesaver for me. I feel like it keeps me accountable for what I eat. It has most foods on it already, and you can also input your own recipes.

It would be you are working to hard to express your bowels.
It could be you developed fishers. Which are small tears in the rectum.
    It could be hemroids.
I would call your doctor and have it checked just to make sure that it's nothing serious.

I agree. Having WLS changes everything. We have to be especially attentive to any sort of tummy issues. From where the food enters to where it exits. We are not the "normal" patient. I would call either your surgeon or doctor but whoever you do see make sure they know of your surgery it changes everything. They are likely to be more attentive and less dismissive. Good Luck!!

Ortega07 yes your body can be in shock because it is still adjusting to the new you, your doctor may up your calorie intake but make sure that you are eating enough try, eating small meals like if you eat Breakfast at 0800 and then at 11:00 you should be eating something again if its not nothing but string cheese, or a half of Protein shake or bar. Or perhaps 1 ounce tuna , chicken, or turkey slice. Or even sugar free applesauce. I have increase my Protein to 100 grams per day and it has prevented me from several stalls as well as I am steadily loosing weight 1-5 pounds weekly. I focus on more on protein, Water, and exercise. You will get there it just takes time for your body to adjust to the new you.

    dear angela,
you are an injured warrior in a battle for your LIFE...not your life. AND you are winning! each moment brings you closer to your own victory parade. give your guy a big hug, kiss, handshake, pat on the head, from all of us out here who appreciate our support troops and the part they play in our victories. just wait until you start celebrating your non scale victories. my big one right now is that I weigh less than my husband for the first time in our 29 yrs/9 mo. together. he is my tall, skinny toyboy and I love and appreciate him truly more every day. I am 4.5 months roux-en y post op and have lost 58 pounds. I am 73...well, really 17 yrs old, can barely walk, thus a slow loser. being a slow loser gives my skin a better chance to be firmer which is a positive.
this really is a "onder"ful adventure

My only suggestion is to stick with it.
I had hoped for some similar restriction, but sadly I think I've felt full 3 or 4 times in the 6+ months since my surgery. I just make sure to weigh all of my food and stick to the plan that my program suggested. It definitely isn't easy, but now that I'm so close to my goal I am more than happy that I've followed the plan.
I have learned that much of the "hunger" I think I experience is simply head hunger. My brain has to be used to the years of torture I put myself through, so it still thinks that is normal. I've learned that a couple spoonfulls of fresh salsa cures my "hunger" without adding a ton of calories to my diet and really gets me through those rough periods.

You can expect to have minimal to painful pain (all hopefully stabilized by meds) you will have gas pain. Just walk as much as you can. Day by day I promise you will feel better! If you feel like throwing up and the meds to reduce that are not working, perhaps your pain meds are making you feel sick. That's what happened to me. I'm here if you have more questions. I am a sleeve To bypass patients, so I've had them both! Good luck!
Oh, two weeks post op, down 13lbs

You had your procedure August 18th? I know every doc has a different food plan, but it seems early to be eating solid food only 8 days after your surgery. My surgeon's plan doesn't let me even eat pureed food until 4 weeks out.

I'm just over 4 months out and I've never regretted my decision. I think a lot of the process is about attitude and staying positive. Please don't let a random comment side line you or cause you some trepidation. You deserve to be healthy and enjoy life and that's just what this will do for you.

I've had the sleeve which was easy recovery for me. I've lost 45 lbs. Unless I diet and Excersize hard cute I'll pretty much stay here. Now I gave scar tissue which is pulling at the shake of my stomach changing it. Also have acid reflux. So next week I am applying to insurance for revision to bypass.

I was sleeved 12/27/13 I'm down roughly 40 lbs and need to get rid of 60 more. My sleeve is not stretched due to scar tissue distorting the shape of the sleeve.
    My options :
    Re sleeve
    Or
    Bypass
Totally confused! Please any words of wisdom appreciated!
When I went for the sleeve it was easy to find many positive stories. The bypass procedure seems riskier.
    Help!
