  1. My pill crusher and mug warmer were my have to haves. I couldnt tolerate cold liquids at first and it would take awhile to drink a cup of decaf tea so my mug warmer was like my security blanket. I would carry it all over the house lol. Now that Im 5 weeks out, I have one at work and 2 at home (one upstairs and one downstairs). I dont need my pill crusher any longer though. Im already a lip balm addict so Ive got one in every room and every purse
  2. The song is right, the waiting is the hardest part. Itll be over before you know it and all you will be concentrating on is sip sip sip, walk walk walk then once that all is under control its LOSE LOSE LOSE Good luck and I hope you have a speedy recovery.
  3. I am 2 days late and never ever ever late. Ive only lost 12 pounds since surgery a month ago so its not like I lost a ton but then I dont think Im pregnant either. This might be one of the only times I actually WANTED Aunt Flo to show up on my doorstep lol.
  4. Dilaudid in the hospital thru the IV for me for the first day. After that they attempted to give me liquid lortab that I found so disgusting I wouldnt take it which cause my heart rate and blood pressure to go up a little because I was in pain so my surgeon told them to crush Norco for me and I was right as rain. I only needed the Norco in the mornings mostly and only for a few days. Less pain than I had imagined thats for sure. But thank goodness for my magic dilaudid button in the hospital
  5. I had to do a 300 question thing on the computer. The questions were silly too like "do you think aliens are out to get you", "do you think all men cheat on thier wives", "do you think the government is conspiring against you?". Then just a 30 minute sit down with the Psych and he just asked about my childhood, was I abused, did I ever have anorexia, etc...They obviously want to make sure you are mentally capable of handing a big life change.
  6. Great list but Id like to add an extension cord for the hospital room. I found it to be the most valuable thing I brought. That way I could actually reach my phone and kindle when I needed it, even if they were charging. I did not need shampoo/conditioner/bodywash/toothpaste/toothbrush/mouthwash, the hospital provided it for me. I also brought my own pillow with a non-hospital looking pillow case just in cause they scooped it up while cleaning. I had a private room so I did not need the eye mask or ear plugs and they also provided me with a bari-bear (a teddy bear for my tender tummy). I had all the blankets I ever needed too, when I wanted another one they brought it. I did need my chapstick though Its awesome that you have researched so thoroughly! Great job.
  7. I do know and love Thai food. They have vegetable dishes that are low cal and you can ask for minimal oil when they prepare it. You wont starve lol.
  8. 12/5 sugery date. Lost 11.5 so far...
  9. I had 8 m&m's at the movies tonight if that makes you feel any better. Pre-sleeve I wouldve had a large heavily buttered popcorn and a box of snowcaps.
  10. I was sleeved 12/5 so Im coming up on my 4 weeks in 2 days. Surgery weight was 222 and today I am 210.5. Everyone loses differently but I believe that the more weight you have to lose, the faster you lose it in the beginning. Just be grateful the scale moves I guess. Slow and steady my friend
  11. Whoa sorry to hear you failed your leak test 4 days sure seems like forever. I was in for 2 1/2 days and didnt think I could do one more overnight. Went in on Wednesday first thing and released Friday night.
  12. I LOVE Dr. Guske. Every time I was feeling anxious or scared, he was so comforting and I immediately felt better. Dr. Guske visited me in the hospital and I had been having trouble getting fluids in and started getting a little down about it but he came in and told me everything I was feeling was normal and to try warm liquids instead. It worked, I tried warm liquids and was able to get my fluids in. His bedside manner is awesome, I felt immediately better after seeing him. My first postop appointment I did see a PA but my next appointment is with Dr. Guske. I feel wonderful, great, fantastic. I love my sleeve! Im 4 weeks post op in 2 days and on most regular foods now. Im just addicted to fish currently. Its so high in Protein and delicious. i dont like wasting my sleeve space for minimal protein. i drink more liquids (usually decaf tea) than I did prior to being sleeved. Discovered Fiber gummies because I had some constipation issues a couple of times but not since taking the fiber gummies.
  13. I agree. My true friends are very supportive and those that I knew would judge me, I didnt tell. This is definitely not the easy way out. I had a 6 month journey from seminar to surgery and I went through a lot to get to my surgery date. Then of course there is the actual surgery and the whole new way of feeding my new tummy and living. This is no simple diet or new age scheme. I think we are all courageous for taking control of our futures because what we were doing before wasnt cutting it. Yay Sleeves!!
  14. Hot yoga for sure. Wear my old school roller skates and cruise like Im in Xanadu Rock climbing and bike with my hubby and not make him turn back cause I cant go his normal 15 miles.
  15. Wow, the difference is awesome! Keep up the good work. I see you were sleeved by Dr. Rantis, I was sleeved by Dr. Guske (on 12/5) at the same office.
  16. For me, I eat 2 ounces at a time. Once I finish the 2 ounces I wait for a few minutes. If I get a tiny burp I know Im one more bite away from the hiccups and I never ever go past the hiccups. I have not thrown up once and only felt discomfort once in the beginning (Ive been sleeved for 3 weeks). I had 3 ounces of cream soup and it was uncomfortable so I decided to do 2 ounces every 2 or 3 hours.
  17. I was sleeved on 12/5 and was fine and dandy up until 2 days before hand. I cried, had anxiety, was just scared. But I thought I cant continue living like I was, unhappy and unhealthy. So my fear turned to being so grateful to have the opportunity to change my life and being proud that I had the courage to do it. I knew I could handle the pain, I guess it was just the unknown. Thankfully this site helped squash so many of those unknowns. Youll be great!
  18. I was also sleeved on 12/5. Starting weight 242, Surgery weight 222, Current weight 211, height 5'4. The roughest days were in the hospital just because I couldnt get liquids down but my surgeon suggested warm liquids because some cant tolerate cold as it makes the tummy spasm. Once I tried the warm, I was able to take down 3 ounces at a time. Everything since has been great. I can take pretty big drinks and I eat about 2 ounces every 2 or 3 hours to get my Protein in. With only taking 2 ounces at a time, Ive not gotten sick once. No nausea either. I get in all my fluids by drinking warm decaf tea all day. It works for me.
  19. It all depends on the individual. Im 3 weeks out and can take pretty big gulps of liquid. Although in the first week, I took very small sips and could feel them just struggling to go down because of the swelling. Once your swelling goes down, you should be able to take bigger sips. Good luck to you and congrats!
  20. You didnt screw up lol. Full liquids for me included strained cream soups. Dont worry. As long as it didnt cause you any discomfort and you strained it, Im sure you are fine.
  21. I was on clears for the 2 days in the hospital and told I could go on full liquids when I got home. Then 2 weeks later I had my first check up and was cleared for purees. Im 3 weeks out now and on soft foods. I have no problems or pain.
  22. They make me nauseous too. Im 3 weeks out and had to take them a few days ago and thought I might have the flu because I havent been nauseous at all except the day of surgery. But then all of a sudden I had to 'go'! And go I went. Unfortunately Im going to have to try it again.
  23. I agree about the lortab. It made me so sick so they finally had to give me Norco crushed up. But this weekend I was a bit stopped up so I took 2 colace tablets and whoa!! Then they kicked in, I felt so nauseous, I thought I had the flu. Then all of a sudden I had to go to the bathroom and needless to say, Im not stopped up any longer (sorry for the TMI). I dont know if taking the normal recommended amount was a good idea. Did the trick but it felt like crap (excuse the pun).
  24. Im only 3 weeks out but for an appetizer I had 3 shrimp and a deviled egg and I was full. Then 2 hours later for dinner I had 2 small bites of chicken breat, about a one inch piece of ham with a tiny dollap of cranberry sauce, a deviled egg, one little broccoli floret and I was stuffed. I couldnt even eat my little thumb size piece of sweet potato so I actually licked it lol. I just wanted to taste it but not consume it. For dessert I had 3 M&M's and I actually ate each one in 3 bites. I could not believe the amount of food on everyone elses plate. It felt so good to be full with what I had and to not even be able to finish it.
  25. I had surgery 12/5 and found this thread to be so helpful. For me personally, I found the most valuable thing to bring was the 6 foot extension cord. My hospital provided a hard pillow for your tummy so I didnt need to bring one but I sure used it a lot. I didnt need the heating pad but couldve gotten one from the hospital if I needed it. I did bring my own firm pillow from home with a dark brown pillow case so it wasnt mistaken for a hospital one. I didnt read any of the magazines or books I brought, I was either sleeping, watching tv, visiting or taking walks.
