I'm three days away from surgery (12/31).... is this normal to have anxiety/freaking out? Not like horrible just... enough to cause me to be irritable and stressed out. I'm mostly concerned with how I'm going to feel and life in the hospital over the three day stay. It's like I can't even wrap my head around how different everything's about to be. I had 6 months to prepare and its just now hitting me (the freaking out part)... Insurance didn't say ok and give the final approval until two days ago - maybe that's why. I'm already telling myself I'll need to ask anesthesia for a stout dose of versed before wheeling me back.... Also, I haven't stuck to the liquid diet as closely as I was supposed to - I'm human. I know many have cracked and I'm one of the many - not trying to justify it. Just scared too that I wont have lost enough weight out of my liver. I've lost about 7 pounds already over the last week or so..... hopefully some of it came from my liver.

Totally normal. At least for me and many others who have chimed in on this very subject. You've got this!

This is the climb up the stairs to the high dive. You can do it! We nurses have way to many "what ifs". Time to make the list of why you are doing this, what you want to do with half the weight off and for when you have all the weight off. Follow your Dr. orders (knowledge) and dive beautifully!

It is completely normal. I was so happy and excited leading up to surgery and then the 3 or 4 days before surgery I kinda freaked out a bit. But it is the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Glad to hear someone else has had those freaking out episodes. After reading all the complications on this site, I am having second thoughts and I haven't even met with my surgeon yet.

Your about to undergo surgery. I think something would be wrong with you if you weren't freaking out.

I think we will always have more reservations when the surgery is self-inflicted and "elective" rather than necessary.

So I am sitting on the bed in the prep room with an IV in and I think "nope, not gonna do it!" "What the F... am I doing!" "What is this goes wrong?" "how do I escape?" I had to calm down my mom had to talk me down. I really freaked! I had been uneasy for a few days before, I didn't follow my pre-op diet 100% maybe about 95% I was scared of the anethisia (sp ?) but I know this is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I am almost two weeks post op. I have lost 33 lbs. since I started my pre op diet and 10 since surgery. The hospital was blah but not to bad. The worst part is that they keep waking you up to take vitals. Now my biggest complaint is my stomach is sore.

You will get through this you will ge great and so handsome!

My surgery is on 12-31 also. I've known for 2 weeks. The closer it gets, the more nervous I am. Not about the surgery but about the recovery. I read so many stories about pain, getting enough liquids/protein in. leaks, etc....

I hated being waked up but my friend said I slept the whole two days except for when the nurses keep waking me...I had a little nausea but other than that things were ok...slept with the tool for the pain meds in my hand...

I was sleeved on 12/5 and was fine and dandy up until 2 days before hand. I cried, had anxiety, was just scared. But I thought I cant continue living like I was, unhappy and unhealthy. So my fear turned to being so grateful to have the opportunity to change my life and being proud that I had the courage to do it. I knew I could handle the pain, I guess it was just the unknown. Thankfully this site helped squash so many of those unknowns. Youll be great!

Ask for Versed in liberal amounts and you will be fine. At least it worked well for me :P . I freaked out hardcore the morning of my surgery, and almost made a run for it at admittance. But the nurses talked me down and got some anti-anxiety drugs in my system, and the rest is history. It's definitely a drastic change, but it is worth it.

Congrats on your insurance acceptance and Best of Luck!!

I'm really freaking out as well...as the day gets closer I get more scared... My biggest fear is dying on the table or after if something was to go wrong. I know I shouldn't think this way as I know all the good reasons I am doing it... But I just can't help being scared... So much so that I can't sleep... But I will continue to pray that I will be blessed to live another day. Jan 8 th is my big day... Good luck on yours..

I was all la la la until I got to the hospital and they started putting the IV in then I freaked out a bit. Like WTH am I doing having surgery in Mexico?! But things went so fast after that I didn't have a chance to freak out more and leave.

When I first decided to do surgery though, I lost my appetite for two weeks, I was so nervous. It is all worth it though. If you can make it through the pre op diet, you can make it through the lifestyle change. Have faith, you will do well.

Versed is like a valium but more like 10 margaritas and no hangover lol

You relax and the ride is over with no memory :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
