VSG AJH got a reaction from gohelpyourself in 2 days post op concerns...
I had zero trouble taking in fluids immediately after surgery. I too felt concerned, but not struggling with Fluid intake is a blessing. I've had no trouble hitting both my Water and Protein goals from the very beginning, and as others will come along to say, the restriction really does improve as you move along to denser foods and Proteins.
As for the bowel stuff, it's normal for your bowels to take a few days to start back up again after abdominal surgery. I experienced the same thing post-VSG and post C-Section a few times. I do recommend taking a stool softener for a couple of days so that when it is time to go, it's more comfortable to go.

I've had my sleeve for 18 months, and I'm 1 month post op on my TT. I can finally buy clothes from anywhere and I look so much better in dress clothes than I ever did. And I'm telling you.... the choices are overwhelming.
    And it's getting expensive.

I was a tight size 26 and 3X at my surgical consult, and I slipped into a pair of size 14 jeans today. L/XL on shirts. I've attached a pic of the size 26 pants I wore to my surgical consult. They were so tight, they have permanent crease marks and the button busted (they were held closed by a big safety pin). I've also attached a pic of me in the size 14s, the same ones laid over the size 26s. I'm only eight weeks post-op, and I can't recall eve being smaller than a size 12 in my entire teen/adult life, so I'm moving into uncharted territory. So crazy!!!

Using the search feature, you can read all about stalls. They are very common as your body readjusts, and if you're meeting your dietary goals, you will very likely begin losing again in no time. Hang in there!

Sometimes if I have a higher calorie day and feel like having something in the the evening I have a low sugar hot cocoa made with Water. It is about 25 calories and satisfies that sweet craving. Also sipping something hot takes awhile and can curb your appetite.

Nerva--you have metabolic syndrome, and most likely insulin resistance. It is hard for people like us to lose weight, even if we are doing everything "right". Don't beat yourself up! I've been there. This surgery helps reduce inflammation and insulin resistance, it controls your hunger, and is a tool to get you where you want to be. Best decision I ever made!

I have a different point of view. I don't feel like a failure because I had weight loss surgery and succeeded in losing over 100 pounds. I'm also not sure who all those other successful people are you reference, since statistically most people re-gain the weight they lose without WLS. I can't tell you how to feel - they are your feelings and you are entitled to them. Do I wish I had been able to maintain a thin body my whole life? Sure. Can I change my past? Nope. What I CAN do is choose to embrace the gift I was given, and feel good about doing it.
Having said all that - I don't think I'd have a surgery that I wasn't totally comfortable with. It's a very personal decision, it impacts your life in every way, and it's not without risk. I considered it for 15 years before I actually did it. It wasn't right for me at the time. Now that it's done and I'm doing so well, I would do it again in a heart beat, but it's not for everyone. I do wish you peace as you decide what's right for you.

VSG AJH reacted to NY Lou in NEW PICS 10.5 months out, over 100 lbs down & running a marathon!
hi everyone. its been awhile since I last posted, so heres an update. my highest weight ever was 323 lbs. i started this sleeve adventure in jan of 2013 at 292 lbs and my sugery date was march 19, 2013, about 10.5 months ago. today I weigh 184.4 lbs. ive been inbetween 181-185 for the last 2 months and I don't think its a plateau, I think this is the weight my body is going to stay at based on how I now eat and exercise. I can eat about 8oz of food at a meal, but still eat healthy and still put Proteins first. I no longer weigh or measure anything, including how much I drink because its all sort of become second nature to me now. I rarely have a Protein Shake, maybe once a week as I get enough Protein from the food I eat as well as the Snacks I consume inbetween meals. all my snacks are always high protein such as a Protein Bar, a lowfat greek yogurt with double protein, some beef Jerky or a lowfat cheese stick.
I exercise 4x a week, mostly running. I completed a 13.1 mile half marathon in October 2013 in 2 hours and 15 minutes and ive been training since October for a full 26.2 mile marathon that ill be running in central park new York city on Feb 23, 2014, which is only a few weeks away. im ready for it as I just did my last long training run yesterday of 20 miles. in my wildest dreams I never thought I would be running a marathon, but it was one of my goals and I know with the training ive done I will accomplish it. its just amazing to be doing this at the age of 50 and im so proud of this.
I used to always read this forum before I had surgery and always thought these great weight loss stories was something I always read about, but it could never happen to me. well I was wrong. it can and it did. it hasn't been easy and ive really followed the program to a tee, eating right, not cheating on what foods I put in my body and finding the time to exercise and not making excuses as to why I cant. the surgery alone will not get you this type of success, it takes a lot of effort to really use the surgery as a tool and as one step in a complete aftercare program. if you don't do all the steps, you may find some moderate success, but it wont be what it could of been and it will be much harder for you down the road to maintain if you don't make these changes permanent.
heres some updated pics. feel free to ask any questions. best of luck to you all and remember, each and every one of you can be a success story if you put your mind to it and youre willing to make the changes in your life that are necessary to go along with this surgery.

I was shopping at a local boutique this morning and decided to try a few dresses for some upcoming parties & showers.
I pointed to one "that's cute."
The woman grabbed me a small.
"Um, size what?? For who?? Me??"
"I'll get you a medium, but you are definitely a small."
....Yeah lady, you're on crack ..... And I fit and bought the size small dress. Holy s#*t!

I use this Protein Powder. I use a fork to whisk it into a paste with a little room temp chicken broth, then whisk in some slightly warmed chicken broth. Very few clumps, and very tasty when mixed with broth.

    Hello everyone...
I will be having my gastric sleeve done by Dr. John Alexander at Forest Park Medical Center. So far his office staff has been absolutely AMAZING! I went in on 1-23-14 for my consult... sweet guy... very funny to see him in scrubs and cowboy boots though.... did my endoscopy on 1-27-14 and got my approval/surgery date on 1-28-14. I am due to have my sleeve done on 2-10-14. I have a million things running through my mind right now.. first of all.. this is a revision from a Gastric Bypass from 2005...so I wasn't expecting the insurance company to approve it... I lost close to about 80 lbs and have gained all but about 15-20 pounds back. At any rate... the first procedure wasn't performed correctly have had some issues/complications so Dr. Alexander suggested the sleeve. I also like the fact that the portion of the stomach that produces ghrelin will be removed. Haven't gotten excited yet... still can't believe that I got approved.. :-)

Well, 9 month check today and my dietician declared me to be no longer overweight - I am now officially NORMAL! Hooray!
I started as morbidly obese (at a BMI of 41, too much for a 5'2" tiddler), then I was obese, then overweight - and finally normal...
Such a small word, what a big impact :-)))))))

Marfar -- I'm wondering if you're hitting all of your basic goals at this point, and if adjusting to that first might produce the results you want. I've watched your posts for a while now, and I've seen you say you revised to the sleeve to be able to eat what you want and not feel like you're on a diet. I also know you eat out a fair bit (based on your posts), and I'm just wondering if these months out you're still tracking calories and macronutrients. My family eats out a fair amount, and those restaurant calories are so sneaky! Perhaps add back some shakes to ensure Protein goals are being met, and become more restrictive on calories and carbs until you're losing again.
