  1. If my mom didn't have frozen dinners, little Debbie's, Cheetos, hot dogs, etc in the house with the freedom to eat whatever and when ever I wanted, I probably wouldn't be in this situation. Veggies and fruit were completely foreign to me as a kid. Leading by example can work especially when you have kids who have no control over what foods are kept in the house. I think OP is feeling guilty of what her daughter has become. My dad did and offered to pay for lapband when I was 18. I knew then I wasn't ready for anything like that! I agree this surgery isn't going to fix anything but her size. Teens of any size can have issues with low self esteem, depression, promiscuity, being bullied, etc.
  2. This is tough. Especially since you've already prepared her for surgery. Of she's as passionate about having it done as I was, it would crush her to turn back now. I personally think you should have had the surgery first then her after a year or so. She may have followed your lifestyle changes and y'all could have exercised together. She may have not even needed surgery. She's a kid. I was probably her weight by 14 too. I can't imagine doing this at that age and my recovery was easy physically and mentally. 14 is also the time I experienced with drugs and alcohol. A crossover addiction could have easily happened. Good luck either way. I am praying for your family!
  3. Girl, you need to pull your head out of your ass! Look at those collar bones. Those tiny arms. That thin face. To me you look accomplished. Like your fighting the battle and not giving up! I don't see where 20 pounds could even come off. See the new you! We all do.
  4. So glad you're doing well!!
  5. Blame shouldn't be placed on her weight but on those regulating the ride if it was due to her being too big ride safely. If a worker told me it only needed to be clicked once, I'd probably trust that.
  6. So true! I bought a Bodymedia fit. It has actual sensors on it to calculate calories burned throughout the day. What I've learned is that I burn a lot slower than average. During a 20 minute circuit training workout, I burn 250 calories. If I used MFP or another online calculator, it would say I should have burned 350-400 calories! Our bodies are all different. I've lost 0 pounds in the last month but lost 2 inches in my waist! I'll take it!
  7. Paul you're not an A hole! From reading the posts on this forum, I've come to the realization that some people just don't get it. Maybe they haven't researched nutrition obsessively like I have. Maybe they 100% rely on the surgery and don't understand that success depends on the choices we make . This forum needs people like you and those who have experience for knowledge and enlightenment. I've learned to offer my knowledge and move on. If someone wants to argue, they aren't getting a response back from me. I want everyone to be successful too. Keep offering what you can! It's priceless! Take care!
  8. Hey Fiddle! I have to admit I fell off the wagon after gb surgery. I'm back on now but definitely starting over. I got the bodymedia so it's keeping me motivated with my fitness goals! Congratulations on your success!
  9. Yes! My arms seriously make me want to cry! The have stretch marks too so I know they aren't going to get better!
  10. It's stretched skin. The faster you lose weight, the harder it is for your skin to catch up. Over time collagen fibers repair themselves and tightens the skin some or completely. It just depends on how well your elasticity can regenerate, how big you were, how long you've been overweight, etc.
  11. I had to stop exercising due to having my gallbladder removed and it took about a month for me to get back on track. The scale has gone up a few pounds but I look and feel better. A lot of people are commenting on my weight loss. I would recommend starting but stay away from the scale for a few weeks.
  12. I was pear shaped and my lower half is losing way faster than the rest! I've lost 11 inches from my hips and only 6 in the waist! Crazy!
  13. Not for me. I can eat about 1/2 cup if that's all I'm eating. I made the Mediterranean one the other day. It was delish!
  14. That's what I've always heard too. I use truvia in my coffee.
  15. I've never thought about, considered, or worried about this "honeymoon phase" people talk about! I don't care how slow or fast I'm losing. I'm not gaining and that's all I care about! Every single day I'm conscious about what I eat and I'm working on getting physically fit. Sleeved life is good!
  16. 3 of my incisions opened aftdr 2 weeks post op. 2 the size of erasers and one the size of a quarter! I kept them covered at work because I'm a hairstylist and uncovered at home. I made sure to keep them clean and watched very closely for infection. They healed on their own in about 8 weeks. I'm 8 months out now and the scars are wide but fading a lot.
  17. Woohoo! You're doing great! Congrats!
  18. Doritos!!!! Omg! I eat like 3 -5 chips a day! My husband keeps them in the house and I can't stay away! That's my current goal. To stay away from those little devils!
  19. Hey lady! I don't know how to help but I really hope you find your worth. You deserve it! 120 pounds lost is amazing! Open your mind to this wonderful new shot at life. Maybe look through the self help section of the bookstore. If your spiritual, The Power of Positive Thinking by Vincent Peale is a good one. Sometimes I need a little outside help to free my mind of negativity too. You just finished school ....what a great accomplishment! I know how stressful and scary it is to start a new chapter in life but embrace it. Be proud and hopeful of the future. I'm thinking of you and sending positive vibes your way. Take care!
  20. Wow!!! Look at you! You look amazing! Congratulations on your success and your health. I'm so happy for you!
  21. Hey Oregondaisy! Do you have a food scale? I weigh everything. It's probably not 100% but it's as accurate as I can get it. Once you use MFP for a while it gets easier. Especially if you a lot of the same stuff regularly.
  22. I have been obsessively waiting for my Bodymedia to arrive. It finally came today. I was so excited to set it up I opened the box while walking home from the mailbox! As I'm trying to set it up the armband snaps!!! Sad. I emailed the company and within 5 minutes I get a reply. They are overnighting TWO armbands AND giving me an extra month of free subscription which makes 4 free months! Wow! I just had to share!
  23. It seems expensive in the beginning but I don't do shakes anymore and I only take a multivitamin. Plus, I rarely go out to eat which was roughly $300-$400 a month before surgery!
