  1. Good luck today at work! You got this!
  2. MsVeDub replied to Sherry77's topic in The Lounge
That happens to me now...not looking forward to later. I just ignore him. LOL!
  3. Your body is too tired. Have a Protein shake 30 min before you work out. Breathe...make sure you are breathing right and fill your lungs. You should maybe stretch for a good 5-10 min before and after. Warm up & down. See if that helps. ** I used to work out first thing in the mornings and a similar thing happened to me. I havent had surgery yet, so I can only speak from pre-op experience ** Good luck & keep us posted.
  4. weigh yourself in the tomorrow AM after your morning "deed". Im sure the scale will go down. Stay motivated ~ you will get there.
  5. Hello all. I have only been a part of this forum for a week or so. I am SO happy that I found a place where I can read real experiences and find a place where people understand my struggles. It shows I am not alone. But I have a question – and this is no means to start an argument – it seems some people love to make a battle, and I don’t intend this to be one. This is what I want to know. Why are we embarrassed to tell others (outside of our family – sometimes within) about the journey we are on or have done? Why do we allow others to make us feel that we should be ashamed or feel bad that we have chosen WLS? Most of us already feel bad that we are overweight – yet we allow the fact that we are doing something about it make us feel ashamed? I just don’t get it. (Of course if you are just a private person, this doesn’t apply – this is only intended for those who are feel ashamed or have a low self-esteem regarding the WLS) I’m not saying tell everyone you know, but why “hide” it? Of course we are going to hear negative comments, opinions and even the horror stories. But guess what? It’s your decision – your body – your life. Just let those comments go from one ear and out the other. Then remember not to talk to those people about it again. You will find that you will get so many people supporting you. More people will support your decision and your journey then you think. Then guess what – it keeps you accountable. Others will keep you going with all of the positive comments. “Girl, you are looking GOOD”, “Man, you are smokin’”. You will start feeling SO good with all of the comments you will receive. Of course you will get these comments even if they don’t know – but my point is….you will have the biggest support system you could even dream of. Then all of those that were negative, prove wrong. Allow them to eat crow. Don’t be ashamed of what you are doing. EVER. I use this as an example. I am in an interracial marriage. I dare someone to say something negative about my husband or child. I also dare them to do the same about me. YOU control how people treat you. Be proud of yourself no matter what.
  6. I'm excited for you! My only comment is - I wouldn't care what people say about the surgery. I am reading so many comments on other posts about this same subject. You are right - it's no one's business on how you lost the weight - but even if you told them, you shouldn't care what they think - this is your life. We are all behind you 100%!
  7. Those #'s could also be salt intake. Drink that water!! I will also keep you full and maybe help you stop grazing.
  8. I had the same questions with the BMI for my Dr. I actually talked to them about it yesterday. My BMI is also 43. I was afraid to lose weight because I didn't want to get denied for surgery. This is what they told me. They (the Dr office) using my starting weight as my weight to go by. So, if I fall under 40, I should still be ok. Of course, I am aftaid she's not telling me the truth, or is mistaken, so I get where you are coming from. I would continue with your plan of action. Get that jump start in - those 6 months are the hardest (I'm in that now). If for some reason you get denied, you can always appeal. Does that make any sense??
  9. I'm not going to say not have surgery - but have you tried Medifast? The reason I bring this up is because it's a low calorie diet (similar to what you will be on post surgery). I did really well on it (lost over 40#). My issue is I need something to stop me from falling off that wagon. Either way, it's your decision. Stand by it
  10. I would try a few weeks by adding a few calories. You may need more calories to fuel that awesome body of yours
  11. WOW~ I love your way of thinking! I'm actually going to steal that from you. Thinking about this a "rebirth" is truly a great way of putting this journey. Good luck to you!
  12. This is coming from someone who has not had surgery yet - so take this for what it's worth. Are you working out at all? If so, or if not...I would stay on maintenance - and step up the working out. You may really just need to start toning and giving your body to "reposition". You may be able to get to a size 10 without cutting more calories. When I was in the Marines (16 yrs ago), I got stuck at a certain weight. It took me forever to findout that I needed to eat more - and i started to lose. Seeing how much weight you have lost is amazing. I can't wait until I am there as well. Keep up the great work!
  13. Way to go! Working out more will help you see the results you want quicker. Another thought - do you work in an office building? Can you take a few flight of steps a few times a day? I used to do that before. I would go up and down as many times as I could. It's a little at a time, but it adds up before you know it. Keep up the great work. You will get there in time.
  14. It very well could be. You know those éclairs that the grocery store has - the ones at the bakery? They come in a plastic container w/ about 5 large ones? Ya - they are also tasteless. Well, when I am having a bad day or an emotional one - I find myself at the grocery store - buying them - eating them in the car on the way home - then throwing the box away before going inside – then becoming upset that I ate them all. I have done this about 20+ times in the last 19 years. It wasn't until I was in therapy that I realized it was a connection to my mom. When I was younger, we used to go to a real bakery, and she would share an éclair with me. I guess it was my way of re-connecting with her subconsciously.
  15. That really sucks. It really makes you want to just lie about everything. I had mine this week as well. I tried to keep everything level and not really go into details about anything. She also asked me what I expected from the VSL and I told her. She was happy with my response and basically kicked me out of the office. I was shocked on how fast it was. I wish you the best of luck. I am sure it will work out
  16. Great job! I recommend (this is me saying this before I even had surgery) - put that scale in the basement and stop weighing yourself. I am a daily/few times a day weigher - it's an addiction. I would weigh yourself now maybe every other week or once a month. You KNOW you are going to lose the weight now - your body doesn't have a choice in the matter. It's now trying to figure out what happened and how to respond. I am so happy for you that you lost 27# in the first month. Way to go!!
  17. Soooo excited for you! I can't wait until I can post the same. Good luck!
  18. Have you called your-soon-to-be insurance company? If they won't talk to you - maybe have a co-worker call and ask them what the requirements are for coverage. In my experience (I have different insurance), your BMI needs to be over 40 if you don't have 2 weight related ailments (hypertension is one, sleep apena, diabetes, etc). Also, some insurance won't cover the sleeve unless you are over 50 BMI (crazy, right???), but they will cover the RNY or ring. Good luck, and welcome to the club!!
  19. We all have days like this. When I feel like that, I actually get out of the house. Go see a funny movie - get a pedi done. If that's not an option then pick a project in the house that you can do that will make you feel better when it's over. Tomorrow will be better - just focus on getting through today. **hugs**
  20. Im going to start one too! I just need to get on it! I'm still in my pre-op stages.
  21. excited for you!! keep us updated - stay calm...today is the first day of the rest of your life
  22. Hopefully I will find something out this week. I know I have issues staying asleep - which is why I am always tired. This is another reason I can't wait to have this sleeve done. I'm looking forward to working out, feeling healthy and SLEEPING a full night without waking up. So excited for the future.
  23. mwrarr I can understand what you are saying. What I mean is this....you (we) should allow no one to make us feel uncomfortable about what we are doing/have done when it comes to surgery. This is giving them power that they don't deserve. I also work at a high profile job and my boss is even trying to talk me out of it (she's an MD). I listen to what they have to say, but frankly, my mind is made up. Nothing they can say or do will change that. Once everyone sees how happy and successful you are afterwards, they will be eating crow. I just don't want people to be embarrassed about this journey. I'm not saying go on top of a building and shout it to the world, but just don't hold back. Of course we all have to do what makes us comfortable, so if it's not for you, I get and respect that.
  24. I live outside of Frederick, MD - having surgery at Frederick Memorial Hospital w/ Dr. McKenna
  25. JMO....but why are so many people afraid to tell the truth. This is our lives - not theirs. This is one of the biggest personal decisions you will make - and you should stand proud. Not telling people shows you are hiding. Be proud. Stand tall. If people aren't supportive, tell them that you respect their opinion, but this is your life. Period. I have been very open. Some people try to tell me that I should try this or that, and I have a strong reply to each of them. "I have dieted for 14 years. I will not waste another moment. This is my decision and my life. If you aren't going to be supportive, then don't talk to me about it. I need all the support I can get - keep the negativity away." Many blessings to all of you!!
