I am so sorry you are having a difficult time. To my knowledge I have heard of things still being swollen. I know it is easier said than done when you hear that it take time and to be patient. I know you don't want to hear that but it's true. I truly believe you made the right decison. I felt the exact same way when I was in the hospital. I was in so much pain and discomfort. All I kept thinking was, What did I do to myself? But this is my 2nd week and the 3rd week is fastly approaching. I start back to work on Monday. Am I ready? Yes! I was so bored at home. I was forgetting to eat and I was having a difficult time getting the Protein in. Well I still am. I have to keep searching to find one I can deal with where I don't get bored. But with that being said don't give in to the minor complications. You will be past this very soon. I will keep you in my prayers and please keep me updated on your progress.

Hi, It always helps to have someone like you to see what could be. My original goal was 120 but my NUT suggested that 130-135 might be better. She suggested I may not like how I look at that weight. I'll get to the 130 and see how I feel. Honestly, I I feel great at 140, I would be thrilled there too.
My usual day starts out with a Protein shake. I have actually been having these for a long time. I take half of a small banana, 3 frozen strawberries or small hand full of frozen blueberries and 6 oz of skim milk with a scoop of vanilla protien powder. Its about 200 calories and takes me about an hour to sip through. If I don't do fruit I throw my leftover coffee and a scoop of chocolate Protein Powder with a few ice cubes and nice little mocha is the result.
lunch is usually about 2-3 oz of Protein. Fish, deli meat or chicken with a side of green Beans or a couple of strawberries or canned spinach. Some days I can eat most of the protein and sometimes I get full before. That is about 150 or so calories. Sometimes I have an afternoon snack of string cheese, cottage cheese or dry roasted edamame for about 100 calories give or take. dinner is a similar offering as lunch. If I want something at night It is usually a premier Protein Shake (all or part) or some protein spiked pudding, if I need or want some more protein. Try for about 800 per day, and at least 70 grams of protein.
Weekends are a bit different. My hubby travels every week so when he is home, I eat a few more things with him. Weekends might be a burger on the grill, beef or turkey, I eat it of course without the bun but I do put the "fixins on it with some grilled veggies. Squash and zuccuni. Sunday is our usual steak on the grill day but have not had that yet. Will wait another month or so for that.
I drink wine every Friday and Saturday. 1-2 glasses. Red only and the best we can get. We love to sit on our patio and share a nice bottle. I account for it though.
I have been off all dietary restrictions since the end of 6 weeks. Was on liquids for the first 3, not even pudding or Jello. That was rough but followed it to the T. I have not had any adverse reactions to anything thus far. I have tried about everything except any type of bread, Pasta or crackers, chips and sweets. I guess the pre op diet got rid of all the carb cravings so I just have not had a desire for them. I did have a few fries last week but they were good but it wasn't anything special.
I feel normal again. Not the pre surgery normal but a new "in control normal." I feel like I eat to live, not live to eat. I enjoy my food and do creative things with it Last week I roasted a whole chicken in the crockpot and cooked i overnight. OMG! It was so tender. Fell apart. I let it cool and deboned it and have so much meat. It can be used all week. I actually made an awesome chicken chilli. It was so good, made a big batch so put it in small containers and froze it. My family loves it and its so stinking healthy too!
How far post op are you?

My A1C was almost 10 prior to surgery and I was on 2 medications. After surgery, I was off of them for 2 weeks, but then has to take Metformin due to high morning and bedtime sugar levels. I have since lost 60 pounds, at almost 6 months out, and my A1C was 5.1. I am off all meds and go back for a check up in 6 months. I took myself off the meds once I noticed my numbers we're mostly normal. That was about 2 months after surgery. The diabetes doctor just needed to confirm it for me.

I was taking 2000mg metformin and actos for the diabetes. I'm down to 1000 mg metformin and 0 actos. I go see my surgeon's PA tomorrow and hopefully I will be down another 500. My goal is to be drug free by the time my year is out. My sugars rarely get of 100, but in the hospital they were up around 230.

    Don't give up hope.
I'm 7 months out, before WLS I was on 1000 mg. metformin, Januvia, and 30 units of Levimir daily. Right after surgery my levels were really good then about 2 weeks out I had to start take the metformin again. I was very discouraged to say the least. The more weight I lost and the more active I became, the lower my blood sugars. I switched to cinnamon at about 3 months out and now happy to report that's all I take for BS. So hopefully your levels will come down with a little time.

When I had my band 12/21/11 my Dr. told me the same thing and I never needed to go back on them. I had my revision on 5/6 and my sugars were going crazy. Also up in the low 200's I am 7 days post op and they seem to be regulating now that I am on whole liquids. Your body is adjusting to your new diet, plus the pain meds and other stuff. I would just monitor closely and let your Dr. know if it doesn't go back down.

I was diagnosed as diabetic 15 yrs ago. 2 yrs before surgery I was on 150 units of insulin daily plus 2000 mg metforin. I also was told not to take anything if numbers under 150. When that did not last I added back metforin. Then insulin. I take same metforin and 30 units before bed. At least not taking 4 shots a day and testing 4 times a day. Endo seems to think it will improve as I loose more weight.
I would like to friend you so we can learn from. Each other during this journey. Best of luck.

Hi. I am a diabetic and I'm not taking my meds either. I spoke to my dr about it and he said to just monitor it for two weeks then see if you still need it. Don't forget, surgery, the meds and your mental state all put stress on your body which can increase the levels.
Give your body time to heal and speak to your dr about it.
I was more worried that if I did have my insulin that I would have a hypo!

Saw the doctor for my 3 month check-up. I have lost 30% of my excess weight and my BMI is down from 46 to 39. I am no longer morbidly obese. My husband thinks I am a little goofy for celebrating such a thing. I told him I now aspire to be merely overweight!

Hi there, let me say that there is hope. I had my sleeve march 18. Now I can eat most things, just very small portions. Last night we went out for mothers day (beat the crowds) and I ordered a salad and had about 5 nice bites. Then chicken marsala, about 1/4 breast with a few bites of veggies and then guess what? Two bites of cheese cake. It was so satisfying. It was a mini meal. I felt normal, satisfied and it was probably 300-400 calories. Can you imagine feeling so satisfied on that many calories before the surgery?! Hang in there, you will get past this stage and live a normal "in balance" life!

first of all, at almost one week out, I am very fortunate so far not to have had any complications or significant issues...that being said, I must confess I am a little worried that I don't feel like I expected to feel...I did not expect to crave food as badly as I do ...I had hoped--like many others have posted--that I wouldn't feel hungry and that I wouldn't really have an interest in food...even though I know it isn't the case, I honestly feel like I could eat an entire entree at a restaurant right now...maybe I am just going through a period of mourning of a sort; i.e., grieving my "old" eating habits...I am just venting emotionally right now on here, because I don't think my family and friends would really understand
