congrats on your success...like others, I can only pray I enjoy your same success when I am one year out...I think you need to update your ticker, girl!
    ps
I am only 2 months out but already know what you mean about not being able to eat that extra bite...the times I feel this the most is when I have been at a restaurant and there is something I truly enjoy and can only eat a few bites...I know I should be happy to at least eat a few bites, but it's hard not to at least eat half of it

I agree...especially when fall/winter gets here, I hope to have tons of sweaters that are too big by then...they are size 2X (22/24) so they may be too big for a lot of us by then...instead of living in the same "virtual city," it would be great if we lived in the same physical locale

the only way I've found to deal with negative people is to simply ignore them...by that I mean to--as much as possible--avoid those people, especially now when you need to stay positive...also, what I always try to remember is that when people are negative (or hateful in any way), it is all about *them* and not about *you* at all...it is their own insecurities and issues they are projecting and I would just pretend I have this shield surrounding my body protecting me from their negative vibes

I have reached my goal and am in top shape. I am above average in strength and endurance for a man of 64 years as attested to by the 20-30 year olds I work with shoveling dirt and wheelbarrowing in the hot and humid Florida summer. If I try on clothes now I am making sure they are not too big instead of making sure they are not too small. I am set in cement on my resolve to remain in shape and train like an athlete for the rest of my life. The fat shall never make a comeback.

Weight obsession took up a great deal of my attention. It demanded and received it because of the health drain that it was on me physically and emotionally. The enemy has been conquered but my body requires a garrison to be situated to guard against an insurrection. Peace is only sustained through diligent observation. I will continue to observe my exercise and diet but not obsess. I don't obsess about brushing my teeth but I do it several times a day. My time on this forum is also a part of that diligence.

Isn't freedom what we are wanting through all of this? Free to move with ease, free to breath normally, free to wear what we want, free to look attractive, freedom from self-consciousness, free to have confidence, and most of all, freedom from obsession about weight. Now we can go about life's other aspects: love, God, family, work, fun, fulfillment of dreams,... exploring our hidden potentials and turning them into actuated realities. We can fill up the space formerly occupied by weight obsession with life itself.

So in the end weight loss is not an end in itself, it is one leg of a journey to the goal of freedom to live out our humanity to the maximum.

my experience and perception are the same as gr8kauz's...in my case, I think it's the natural slow-down of metabolism (I am also menopausal although not every woman 50+ is of course) and the fact that I have been a type 2 diabetic for over ten years now...there are plenty of women on this forum who are over 50 who have been quite successful...so the Club Five-Oh members can do it!!

anncharlie, I am impressed with your success so far...I am 51 and had my surgery May 6th (so just a month after you)...I've only lost 30 so far and had hoped to have lost closer to 40 by now...I have a little more overall weight to lose than you to reach the same goal weight of 150...I am just wondering what I am doing differently from you...I walk most days but not every single day...also having some energy issues...if I may ask, how many calories are you taking in per day? liquids and Proteins? typical meal plan for a day? thanks for any feedback you can give

Your body is adjusting and needs time heal. The best thing you can do for yourself is to put the scale away and focus on getting in your Protein. Your weight is going to fluctuate as you lose/retain Water, put on muscle from exercise etc. Stepping on the scale everyday does more harm than good. Hang in there and trust that if you make smart choices regarding food, protein and exercise, the weight will come off. You can do it!

I finally went down this morning (4 weeks post-op today) after a few weeks of slight movement. Keep doing what you're supposed to - the weight WILL come off once your body has adjusted! You'll continue to go through cycles of stall, lose, stall, lose for the entire process...don't get impatient now!

I agree that counseling would be very beneficial for you right now. Is possible that like many of us, (myself included) that you are stuffing feelings down and doing it via twinkies.
A good counselor can help you get to the bottom of it and help you move past it.

Very wise advice. Couldn't have said it better. Today is a new day, what happened before doesn't matter. Make it matter for just today. One day at a time.
Also, the advice to see a therapist is spot on. You need to discover what is going on in your head.
Sending you good wishes and prayers in your journey.

I think just keep trying to get some walking--whatever you can manage--in each day...don't push yourself at this point...I think it is important just to try to walk--even if just around your house--more each day...be patient...you will start to feel stronger

I am 50 and menopausal. I feel I am losing at a great rate. I was also diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 1998. I am now in remission. That feels awesome. I walk every day for an hour. I eat low carb and my sleeve has healed completely, at least it seems that way.
