I was sleeved 11/15 in NJ. I had no nauseau or pain, sore of course, and the gas/reflux was pretty bad (get those Gas X strips!) but that was because they fixed a hiatal hernial. I'm doing really well, so far down about 11 lbs per my scale. I'm eating Protein Shakes, sf Jello & pudding, plain/vanilla yogurt (non fat), I can have milk, oatmeal, pureed veggies, mashed potatos, broth or pureed Soup, SF Ice pops, crystal light, tea, Water, gatorade etc. The yogurt cup or jello/pudding cup is about a serving for me per meal. I'm doing fine, don't feel overly hungry, my body tells me when I need to eat and I'm listening to it. Supposed to get about 45-60 oz of liquid plus 70-85 g of Protein per day.. I feel like all I do is eat and drink trying to get it all in! After 3 weeks of soft/puree foods, then I will move to more of a solid.
I'm glad I did it, and I was a nervous wreck! Good luck to everyone having their surgery this week and in the coming weeks. It truly does get better every day.

Got the shake on amazon...12 individual packets was something like $23. Worth it. And I sometimes add either unsweetened cocoa powder or MIO in tangerine/orange to change it up. The orange flavoring is esp good b/c it tastes like a creamsickle!

One week out., Today I've had Chobani plain yogurt, creamy Tomato Soup, creamy chicken Soup, Water, Crystal Light Decaf Iced Tea and Protein Shake - Syntrax Nectar vanilla Bean Torte. I go for my follow up on Wednesday and am hoping that the doc will move me to mushies - I feel like I need something more substantial... I am missing Italian food the most but have a substitute planned when the time comes - ricotta cheese, a bit of Tomato sauce and mozz cheese.

What are you november sleevers able to eat at this point? Please post what your eating in a typical day and how far post op you are. I'm interested in hearing where everyone is at. Everything with any texture that I eat (yogurt, pudding, hummus) get's stuck and feels uncomfortable and my stomach is really "talking" to me. I think I heard it tell me off a couple of time..LOL

I agree, I can't tell if I'm hungry or my new tummy is pissed off. I think it actually gave me the finger the other day! I thought days 4 and 5 I was starving. But really I wasn't hungry - just trying to get used to the new feelings and signals. I can't wait to be able to go to soft liquid stage - yogurt, creamed Soups and pudding - that should be on Monday. but taking it slow is the key here I think.
Also, no BM yet - REALLY! I was sleeved on Monday. Dr. told me to get Miralax - so I drank that and still nothing. I can take it again tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed. I never thought I would be so happy as the time I get to use the potty. TMI
I definitely did too much today. I bent over to get something in a low cabinet and I really felt the "pull" in my abdomen - like I was very aware of the staples. good luck everyone

For those of you that are constipated if you use Miralax remember those type of laxatives use Water to make things get moving so make sure you are getting enough fluids not just for not getting dehydrated, but to get things moving. Yes the pain meds do stop you up BIG time. You also have to keep moving to get things moving. Remember you guys aren't even a week out and these kind of problems and issues are normal. You guys will probably moved up to Puree foods very soon. I bought a magic bullet and everything the family ate I was able to eat after about 30-40 seconds in the bullet. Keep up the fluids, Protein, stay away from the "soft carbs" (mashed taters, and stuff like that) and keep up the walking.. GOOD LUCK

I felt like I was starving every couple hours today! Thankfully an oz or two of Soup does the trick! For a few minutes I wished that I could just shove a giant cheeseburger in my mouth then I snapped out of it. The battle in my head will be harder than the surgery.

    Hi All:
I have been busy keeping busy watching all the new posts and wishing everyone well from here in CA. I wanted to write a follow-up to life after the sleeve procedure almost three weeks out this Thursday. First of all I wake up every morning and tell myself this is a JOURNEY, not a RACE! With immediate success with weight loss during the pre-op phase and even rigth after surgery, you get this feeling like "Wow, At this rate, I should be down 100 pounds in no time." Reality check, you didn't gain the weight in two months so it isn't going to come off that fast. For those that are feeling a little let down because the weight loss is slower than you expected, please, please do not get discouraged. I know that I started at 240 On Oct 1st and don't know what I weighed on surgery day. As of today I am 214. While on the surface you might say that is fantastic, let me tell you the whole story behind this weigh loss. After surgery I am assuming I immediately lost weight. How could one not... you aren't eating or drinking anything. I think we are sort of like spounges that after preop and the one week post op, we are all rung out. There is literally nothing left in you. Then you start to feel better and you get rehydrated. Guess what, rehydration will start to actually make you gain weight. Now the former fat girl in me starts to panic at this point. I say to myself, "you just paid an ungodly amount for this surgery and you are gaining weight?!" Again,we revert back to what most of us know and are familar with and that is yo-yo dieting and the initial rush of weight loss followed by a serious let down of regaining the weight. Got a news flash for you.... you are not gaining weight and you are not reverting back to your old ways. It is almost impossible for you to gain weight back with 7/8 of you stomach being gone. Anyway.. back to my story. So I start to rehydrate and gravitate around the 216-217 mark on the scale. At week two I start back on soft foods (actually truth be knowns, I started back on a lot of things that were not on my doctors short list.) For me, I am really looking at this as a life long change and I am taking my time along the way to get to know the new me and the new stomach. Tast buds to change and things that I loved before don't work for me know. This is not to say I am eating like a crazy woman (again, you won't be able to because trust me, we you get beyond three ounces of anything you literally start feeling like you are having a heart attack with chest pains, cold sweat, dizziness. I think this is normal. For me the best advice is if this happens to you, stand up and criss cross your arms over you head. It passes but it shares the daylights out of you.) So back to my diet, The good things I have been eating are fish, greek yogurt, meatballs with a small amount of sauce, ground beef, chicken chewed really really well, eggs, oatmeal, Soups, potatoes, cheese. What I have experimented with (and when I say experiments I mean like one bite.. doughnut, ice cream, cookie and three tortilla chips with salsa. These were favorites from my past. While us sleevers don't experience dumping, at least for me the sweets don't sit well with me and have actually lost a lot of there appeal. My sampling of foods for me was a good exercise to see what works and what doesn't. I think I have a realsitic view of what I can eat and how much. I have really had to educate my immediate family on not being the food police with me. A simple explanation of "I know my body or at least an learning new things every day about it... I appreciate your love and support but I also need you to trust me. If I have a bite of something that does not look like "diet foos" please don't freak out and judge. I can only eat 3 oz at a time and I know that eating my Proteins first is what works for me. I am human and my head is still going to send me triggers that I want something so let me try and learn along the way. I am no longer a fat person that is going to go through life on a yo-yo diet. The surgery I have done is permanent and restricts my intake so while there are food choices that I can make, I cannot undo the procedure or sabotage the journey to being health and happy as I did in the past. This weigh loss is going to happen." After a week of going up a couple of pounds and then holding at the same weight I am starting to lose again (not five pounds a day but a steady progress.) Kepp the faith for those of you who are entering week two or three, you probably will experience a stall. It is normal. You did not make a mistake in your decision nor are you the one rare exception in the bunch that got sleeved and won't lose the weight. Remember... it is a JOURNEY not a RACE. A year from now, we will all go back through the posts and say "Remember when I was complaining about the pre-op diet, freaked out about my surgery day, in pain the first day or so, nervous about starting food, mad at the weight stall, excited about the change in sizes and the comments that friends and family are making. We are all going to get there and in our own time. Sending my love and support to my fellow November sleevers. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! - Marshawn

I was sleeved exactly one week ago 11/12 and per my past posts last week, it was a difficult four days or so. Then it miraculously started getting better. I was on Clear Liquids for the first week - and now today I was to move onto "full liquids" smooth yogurts; puddings; cream Soups. So I get up this am with a swing in my step cuz I can have fat free cream of cheese soup! I take four spoonfuls and glee washes over my face. And that's where it stopped.........pain and discomfort when it hits the tummy. I now know where food enters the stomach - and I never even went to med school. So I wait and try again and bam it happens again.
So, what's up with this? Any suggestions, hints etc...am I eating wrong? It has taken me 2 hours to eat this mug of Soup. There is NO WAY I can start timing my Water between my "meals" like they want me to. If I were to do this, I would never drink water today.

I was sleeved on 11/12 - one week down and I can start full liquids today (cream soups; yogurt; pudding and continue with Protein shakes). Well it was tough today I must say, everything I ate hurt, sometimes I had to hold onto the counter till it passed. I think its gonna take me a couple more days before I can try again. the problem is trying to get in enough protein right now - I can't even keep track of it, but I know it is really low. I see surgeon on Weds. as far as bm's go - it FINALLY happened on Sunday sorry TMI - I just two doses of Miralax and now i can't stop - my lower intestines are rumbling all the time. I was down five lbs today...

I totally get what your saying. I'm trying to stay positive and I'm sure you are too. There's just some days you just wanna cave in and go back to the old ways!! Unfortunately (but really fortunately for us) we can't do this! I'm sad about Thanksgiving too, but next year will be awesome! We will be totally down on what we can stomach and know how to make it right so we can enjoy with the rest. Hang in there! I am very sure many of us feel your pain!

I was 11/2 and really, with few exceptions, things have been great. No pain meds since the hospital, incisions are healing well, getting the walking in and Vitamins are not an issue. I have introduced new foods, make sure they are super soft, and have had no real issues. I did over eat with literally THREE bites of a bean Soup I made and that came back up. Otherwise, no issues. Really learning the size and capacity. Had some crab and shrimp this week and both were great. Hitting my Proteins and mostly my Water (although it is hard to get both but I track to keep it up). I've gone out to eat two or three times and two parties today. Most people don't know it is is shocking how little they notice! I've been able to select good foods that are Soups or purée like or I just really chew a ton if it is soft food. So far I can see how I will be able to move into this lifestyle. I know it won't b easy always but I am 26 lbs in the 3 weeks since I went on pre-op liquids and two weeks post surgery. I am definitely having energy issues but I figure that will come with time! I already feel and see the difference and have a goal of hitting 40 lbs down in the first 90 days! Wish me luck!

Yes it hurts when it hits your stomach, it's swollen and trying to heal that's why you are on puréed foods. I know you have heard this before but really ..... Take .... Tiny .... Sips..... I can't stress that enough. And when you start to eat .... Take ..... Tiny ..... Bites! And wait between sips and bites wait wait wait. This is the answer to your questions slow and tiny!!

I was sleeved on Monday 11/12 - cam ehome from hosp. on Wed. Truthfully, I felt like hell for Monday, Tues and Wed. On Thursday I started to feel a little better and today it continues to make improvements. BM you say? I have yet to have that - TMI - sorry but I don't know what to do, my Dr. said not to worry and to get an over the counter laxitive - but I'm scared to do that as laxitives, in the past, cause me extreme adominal discomfort. That said, I started taking prescription priolsec and was able to handle that fine. I am hungry - when I go to sip a shake or tea, I can only take a few sips. But I know I am hungry. I can't wait to move on to yogart and pudding and cream Soup phase next week! Today I took a little Peanut Butter and tucked it away in my cheek and let a little at time melt in my mouth - just so I could feel like I was eating something. This is hard, but will be worth it. My abdomen is still sore and I walk kinda slow. I am also a little clumsy these past few days - like I'm in a daze. It will be worth it - in the end.

Nope your not nuts. I was sleeved on Monday and since Thursday I swear I was starving to death! LOL. Now today it is "different" we really aren't hungry, I think we have been so predisposed to eating at the first sign of emptiness in our tummies and to snack whenever we wanted, that we are confusing the two. I tortured myself Thurs and Friday by watching FoodNetwork all day long. I figured I would try to desensitize myself by overloading. I'm trying to wrap my head around it being "ok" for everyone else to be able to eat and for me to be able to cook for them - but I forgo it all.
We did it at bad time of year, I think, but better now than later. Listen to your body not your head and then it will all make sense. Good luck!

I know I'll feel better if I can get that end moving. i hope the dog doesn't pull too much - so back to what I'm feeling. My stomach is gurggling every time I sip something. i did order Unjury chicken soup/broth really. I was really good. For 8 ozs you take in 20g Protein. so that is the only protein I got intoday, but I'm happy about it nonetheless. I think I'm at the licking my wounds stage (a/k/a feeling bad for myself stage). You all are an inspiration on this site. I wonder If I'll lose any weight after week one? My abdomen is twice the size it was when I went in for surgery still. I'll post an update tomorrow - good luck tonight everyone! and Thanks
