I have been away from the forums because i was real upset and mad at Aetna. I was delayed. I was to have surgery on 7/26 but it is now push to Aug 6th. So my 2 week diet is now a 3 1/2 week diet but if it all works out i'll be happy.

Help make my decision
Well i see a number of people on here that are over 50 and seem to be doing well. My Mother was banded and she is 71. She is doing great. The surgury was fine and the days after were the same as everyone else. A little gas pain the next day or two but no big deal and she was up and walking around that night.
-
Thank you!!!
My Doctor is Dr. Feilding but Dr. Ren did my mothers banding and she is over 70 and came out of the surgury just fine.
-
Thank you!!!
I'm also from Long Island and so far i have been more then happy with the people at NYU. It has been worth the trip into the city.

For BMI > 60, GBP instead of Lap Band?
I have a BMI in the mid 50's and I need to lose at least 170lbs maybe more like 180lbs. I first went to see a doctor about the band over 4 years ago. After talking to him he said "well i'll do the band if you really want but i don't think it will work that good". He really just wanted me to do the RNY.I should also say i was 100lbs less then now. I was so turned off i just said forget it and didn't do anything until i found out about NYU this year. I have a team of people that one understand the band and know it can help and two are not pushing me to do something i don't want to. It just makes you feel so much better going into it. If you think the band is right for you then i would say find another doctor.
-
Nyc?
WOW.. I didn't know she had a band. Well you almost there. I hope everything goes well and please let us know how things go at NYU.....
-
Nyc?
Hey Bandi, If i may ask, who is your INS and how long did you have to work with NYU to get approved? I'm still not sure if I will have Dr. Ren or Dr. Fielding....
-
Hello from NY
Hey T, Thanks for the Welcome. I'm a little worried about how much of a hard time i may get from INS. but ready to go. Best of luck with everything this week!!!!

Hello from NY
I'm new here. I posted two or three times and thought i would say hi. I'm in the process of getting a lapband. I'm going with NYU here in NY. I went to the info meeting and have been cleared by Psyc. I have also went for a stress test and my doctor has given me records for the last 5 years that he has been working with me. So i think i have the ball rolling. I have a BMI of about 54 and I have 3 slipped disk in the neck. I had my ACL replaced a few years back and would like nothing more then to play 18 holes of golf.. Just wanted to say hi and seeing all the people here i'm sure will help me leading up to and after i get the band.
