  1. If your taking offence at the word fat....I can tell you it is one of the easiest terms to digest....How about obese, Moby d**k, gigantic, titanic, elephant, rhino, mountain and whale Pick anything huge and I have been called that. I have heard the medical field use some of these terms as well. Like I said in an earlier post here. We are always looking for the aw aspect of this surgery because we all want to be there. Where ever we start it does not matter. It is knowing, KNOWING that others who took the leap before us were successful.. I know personally of a woman who had a by-pass about 15 years ago and after 60 lbs lost she stopped and started gaining weight. 2, 2 liter bottles of pop a day help her keep her from her original goal. Now another woman who knows her is worried to death that she will only lose 60 lbs because well it happened to her.... No guys we are all looking for successes when we go anywhere or read any of these stories. That is normal!!!!!!! Maybe the title spurred some bad reactions. But I bet 10 to 1 that if you were hoping for a celebration for weight loss and it was not there to what your mind thought it would be. You too would have been disappointed... I know I would have been thrown into some kind of fear, worrying that I might gain it back or struggle to keep it off.... Giving your mind rest by having positive feedback is a powerful motivator. For the poster..it wasn't a great experience. Can we learn from this...YES We can look at the same potential situation and feel completely different about it....Learn that we are all different and we lose at different rates and are different makeups.....And maybe even reach out to some who you can encourage... After all that is the goal of this forum. Not to beat the tar out of someone who had a discouraging experience.......To her it was... When we go through life and two people experience the same event. It is highly unlikely that they would have seen, thought, felt or would even write the exact same thing about it......If you would see it as wonderful, maybe another saw it as I let them cut me open and remove part of my stomach and was in so much pain and had to learn to eat again, learn to reteach my mind about healthy food...etc. That is how I see this posters thread...Nothing more then her being worried about the possibility of her not reaching the goal she has in mind.... She is allowed that guys....I think anyway!
  2. I've been doing this for about a week now. My teeth feel much cleaner. I also use coconut oil and it is so gross until it melts. It's a texture thing. I thought I was the only weirdo out there. I'm reading a book right now about oil pulling that one of my coworkers leant me. It talks about how the teeth are the basis of most of our illnesses in our bodies. Heart disease being one of the biggest ones. It says that our bodies can be full of our mouth bacteria if there is ever any bleeding in our mouths. In my experience as a health care provider, I have never met one patient with nice clean teeth with heart disease. Those that come in for surgeries on their hearts usually have the nastiest teeth I've ever seen. Not all of them but most of them. Plaque and bacteria is the enemy here. I have heard dentist after dentist say that untreated plaque is a recipe for heart attacks.....
  3. LOL... try it again...baby! LOL
  4. costco or the health food store usually carries it
  5. You can expect exactly what is happening to you. Your body is not even healed yet. Careful to keep the Protein intake high. If you don't you may stay where you are for a while. your body is in protection mode....It is in danger it thinks so it stops until it feels it is safe..Amazing right! Just keep to the program and the weight will start to go again...... Fat and muscle weigh the same by the way..the only difference is muscle is more dense then fat.
  6. Okay so my daughter says to me, "mom have you ever heard of oil pulling." I could not even imagine what the heck she was talking about. She said, "the Indians and ancients used it instead of tooth paste to clean and repair teeth, kill germs and bacteria in our teeth. Teeth are bones she said and if you break a bone, it can build and repair itself".... And she says, "on top of that if your teeth are stained it will whiten them and make you feel like your teeth are freshly cleaned by the dentist." Also she added, "that your breath smalls great as a pleasant side effect of this daily at first then by- weekly habit." So my hubby has been doing it two times a day and plans on doing it for two weeks and then evaluating whether he can feel or see a difference. I did it today with Coconut oil. It was difficult to put the hard oil in my mouth but I chewed it up and soon it was a liquid and the bad taste was gone... After I swished it around my mouth for 20 min. I spit it in the garbage because cold oil can clog drains....lol My teeth felt amazing. Even the back, you know way back behind the teeth where it is hard to reach your brush: was cleaned off. i felt refreshed and had a smooth and cleaner looking mouth. My breath was fresh as well. With just a hint of coconut... Thought I would mention it because so many on here talk about the side effect of bad breath with these surgeries....I am going to keep it up for two weeks as well and see how or if anything is really better. My daughter has done it for two weeks now and swears her teeth are not hurting as much and that she does not have bad breath anytime of the day or night. Dentists don't like this but that is okay..I like using natural things to make me better. Here is a site if you want to read about it yourself... Just sharing! http://authoritynutrition.com/oil-pulling-coconut-oil/
  7. I wrote on here a long time ago that when I went to my first seminar. The woman they brought in that had WLS ( sleeve ) a year before looked amazing. It is not expected by my surgeon that we be stick thin but healthier. I saw her before picture and then looked at her in awe. When we were done hearing her story she stood up to go and pulled the belt of her leather jacket tight. I watched as it seemed to go and go and go closer to her. i starred at her in amazement. She was the final nail that sealed my decision for the sleeve. When I went home I did not talk about her story or how much she had lost. i talked about what I saw her do with that leather jacket. I said that is what I want to do. Two days later my daughter handed me a gift bag with a short leather jacket that was ( seemed to me to be the smallest jacket I had ever seen.) She said mom..This is what you want to shoot for...When you can wear this your there.....I took it to the hospital at my next appointment and showed it to the team.... They were surprised that I was looking to be that small...I still am. I am 16 months out and have not gotten to wear that jacket yet..I will though.... Everyone looks at things different. I needed to see her in all her glory to realize that there was hope for me too. I think that is what @@Seela is trying to say..not judge them but to see where she herself will be in the future....I would be scared if I saw a room full of WLS patients and some had only lost a bit over time...I would be sad and worried for them too... We all care about each other and always hope for success. My team told me to stop losing weight now...No I don't think so..Not in the jacket yet.....I will never forget that woman and the belt on her jacket.................. never! Oh by the way..the jacket fits everywhere but my gut..Damn gut!!! LOL
  8. It is best to check this out with your team first of all! Next I cannot eat Tuna either...Why I don't know...Some foods will not be tolerated any longer by your new sleeve. Dehydration is something you can fix right away. G2 Gatorade...1/2 and 1/2 a bottle and you will feel better in minutes. It keeps you hydrated by working with your electrolytes stricture [strik′chər]Etymology: L, stringere, to tighten an abnormal temporary or permanent narrowing of the lumen of a hollow organ, such as the esophagus, pylorus of the stomach, ureter, or urethra. It is caused by inflammation, external pressure, or scarring. Treatment varies depending on the cause.
  9. All I can say is some sail through this and some have minimal issues and others well they get a truck load of trouble. Best thing to do is look at the possible positive outcome in the near future. You are your own advocate and control how you deal with the downs that you have and are experiencing...By staying positive and reminding yourself that this is temporary you can get through any problem. It is 50% attitude and 50% the cure...I know you don't see it right now but I believe that you will see things a lot better once the weight starts rolling off and you can see the differences... You can do this.....And later when it is over you can encourage others when they are down from complications...
  10. Oh cool @@Alex Brecher .Kinda scares me to know if people are talking about me and using my name in maybe a bad way....crap! LOL
  11. Thank you..It would be nice to have some sailing in my life!
  12. There is no truth in what she is doing to you. just arrogance and pride and selfishness on her part... As my daughter says " who needs enemies" This will hurt I know I lost all but one friend since I had my surgery. There is a light though. Plenty of other people to get to know and build a relationship with. It has nothing to do with your surgery choice. Like you I feel it is up to each and everyone of us to be able to chose and not to be criticized for our choice. Friends who don't realize that it is not "all about them" are not friends. There is always an interchange of communication and give and take.... she has taken too much and gone too far! I am so proud of you for standing your ground... We are here anytime you need to talk to us about how you are dealing with this..I know it is very painful..... Thinking of you as you deal with this new aspect of your personal journey. Jane
  13. Well it is about time kiddo!!!!!!!!!!! I'm speaking from the point of having everything done..So I have been there done that and relied on those that knew more then me..Which is your team......
  14. This sounds bad but if I could smack you right now I would.....Why would it migrate. It was placed in your sleeve exactly the same width as your sleeve....If it didn't hurt why did you want it out...A few more weeks and you would have been up and on your way....grrrrrrrrrrr...now another few weeks to go....LISTEN to your doctor Ana.....okay I so want you to get past all of this so that you can be free of complications and move forward on your journey.... Please, please do what he says!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Well don't you look sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Ana he is not lying to you. It takes a good 6-8 weeks for the stent to do its job if at all. I would take the new stent and deal girl...if they tried clamps and that did not work then the next is a bypass loup. No sense in comparing yourself with others...you are not them...Come on girl...You can do this! Trust me Ana, you don't want more complications...just behave okay!!!!!!! And serve your time so you can get the hell out of there and on with your journey......okay!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Just watched the pro mo for it..Sounds way to good to be true....would like to know if anyone has had any success though..Maybe it is a certain type that is best...
  18. It is always nice to know when others have similar experiences...Your right! It is a time to celebrate! Thanks Recycled!
  19. Well I just got home from my woman's doctor and he told us that I DO NOT HAVE CANCER . I am out of the woods. After several months of biopsy and waiting and worrying and my own doctor scaring the daylights out of me. I am okay! one thing has finally went perfectly right... Hubby almost broke down and cried..... Have to see him for a follow up about the meds he gave me to help with some cramping and pain...But that is that he said..... I think he was surprised at our reactions since we were both staring at him in disbelief...We are so used to just one more thing to deal with through out this journey. It was nice to get some good news! See guys some good news...And on a side note down 2 more lbs.....Zippady-do-dah!!!!!!!!!!
  20. I am so sorry for your issues. I too was not educated enough when I had my surgery although I thought I was. Thank you for telling your story. It is sure to help someone on here educate themselves further before making this very important decision. I too have the Roux-en-Y loop . I seem to be okay with it..
  21. I am so sorry for your news about your hubby. And on top of that your health issues sound extremely painful and uncomfortable. I too am one of the 3-5 % of patients that have continued to have complications due to the sleeve. Mine are different then yours but I can relate to the time passing and things not getting better as far as the body adjusting. Like you this has been a long haul for me and others as well. I am wondering why you do not want to take the bypass option. This could be the answer to your situation. I had Roux-en-Y loop which is a type of bypass that worked for my leak.....I know your problems are different but I don't understand why you would not take any option open to you after 2 years of struggling with this much pain. You are a trooper I tell you that. I am 16 months out and wonder if I can keep up the journey... Still here so I guess so. Like you happy, happy, happy with the weight lost but wish the trouble was over. A lot of patients who had reflux trouble find it does return after a period of time. I hope that soon your health trouble will ease for you. Again so sorry about your hubby. Please let us know how things are going Yes, I know of four people that have revised because of GERD. One is doing well... all the other three aren't. One of the main reasons is I don't want to risk any more problems. I didn't want gastric bypass ever because I just don't. That is why I chose the sleeve and I know my problems don't compare to what you and others have been through. I've read your posts. I'm blessed really to just have this. The other reason is I can't afford it. I paid for my sleeve and my insurance will not pay for surgery even if I'm having problems. My husband is dying and I can't even think of that now. I'm taking care of him. I just know that if I had known that I would have developed my spasms, I wouldn't have had the surgery but everything is a risk and I've been blessed as I say not to have had more issues as you and others have. 1 in 4 is not good odds. Your problems are just as bad as mine. And deserve the help and attention of professionals. they helped cause the situation. They need to fix it.... You are dealing with so much right now and my heart goes out to you. Thank you for telling me why you are not having the bypass...It is up to each of us to chose for ourselves what is best. You are your own advocate! It is hard when you don't know what can happen. that is why I have put my story out there so it might help others to see that this is not the easy way out. There are people out there that have done this and are paying dearly for it.... I truly hope things improve for you and it bothers me so much that at this time you are dealing with a family night mare..... I am so sorry Lisa
  22. Ditto for the sleevers and by pass patients as well.....okay! The information here is good for anyone who has had WLS of any kind.
