Jakat got a reaction from Ladylaurarose in How long did gas pain last? How about incisional pain? I was sleeved on the 10th.
try gasxstrips for the gas pain. Also how much are you walking? You need to walk at least 3-4 times a day to keep things moving. The walking helps you get the gas moving to get it out, keeps you from developing bllod clots in your legs and from getting constipated. Also make sure you are getting your 48-64 oz of liquids in. If you have pain at an incession site make sure it's not infected..red, swollen or hot to the touch. If it is call Doctor. I developed two himotomams (sp?) where two sites were a little swollen and sore. The Doc told me it was the blood pooled the the muscle tissue and would just take a little longer to go away. If you have any doubts call the Doc for peace of mind if nothing else.. Good Luck and keep us posted

I agree with both above. I didn't ween off caffeine, and boy did i pay for it. It was the worst headache I ever had. DO NOT GO cold turkey. Also the better shape you are in going into surgery the better and quicker recovery time. After surgery you will need to walk, walk , walk this helps in a number of ways..1 you need to get all the gas out of your system that they pump in there to work so the more you more the quicker it comes out..2nd youo need to move so that you don't develop blood clots in your legs and 3rd you need to move so that you don't get constipated. So the more you can walk prior to surgery the easier it will be to do after surgery. Good Luck

people handle it differently. Liquids pass right thru the stomach with very little hold time. Once you get to puree and soft you will realize how little you can eat. as they just because you can doesn't mean you should..probably why most of us are the way we are.

Jakat got a reaction from GlendaLee in After Surgery?
My surgeon wouldn't let me go home until I was able to walk around in recovery room. Then stressed to walk around once I got home. So the day after surgery I was up walking around the house every couple of hours and by day two I was walking to the mailbox and back and by day 5 was walking 3-4 houses down. It really helps with the gas pains and to get your bowels moving again. Also you don't want to develop bllod clots in your legs which can go to your lungs, heart. Plus it makes you feel a lot better to get up and move instead of sitting/lying around. Good Luck and keep us post after surgery. See ya on the losers side.

Just remember at good Protein to carb ratio is 2 to 1. You should have 80 grams of protein so that means no more than 40 grams of carbs per day. Be careful of the pastas, breads and those hidden carbs like fruits. Look it up a normal sized apple has 20 grams of carbs. A good thing that has helped me is our plate should be the size of a dessert plate. Cut that in half, one half is protein. The other half, cut in half and one of those is carbs the other is veggies. My cousin who went thru this 2 years ago put it this way: you go out for a steak dinner, you have 3 bites of steak and a forkful or two of baked potato and a forkful or two veggies and your done, take the rest home. Good Luck

For those of you that are constipated if you use Miralax remember those type of laxatives use Water to make things get moving so make sure you are getting enough fluids not just for not getting dehydrated, but to get things moving. Yes the pain meds do stop you up BIG time. You also have to keep moving to get things moving. Remember you guys aren't even a week out and these kind of problems and issues are normal. You guys will probably moved up to Puree foods very soon. I bought a magic bullet and everything the family ate I was able to eat after about 30-40 seconds in the bullet. Keep up the fluids, Protein, stay away from the "soft carbs" (mashed taters, and stuff like that) and keep up the walking.. GOOD LUCK

Jakat got a reaction from able2cope in Is Feeling Ravenous Normal?
at 5 weeks I was just starting soft foods. Your stomach is still a little swollen from the surgery so you will not be a able to eat a "full" 4 oz yet. They still want you eating every 2-3 hours of high Protein. This will continue pretty much for the rest of your life it my understanding. Since our stomachs are so small we have to eat protein, protein protein. As a friend of mine put it, who went thru this 2 years ago, once you are fully healed and you go out as for a steak dinner, you will have 3 or 4 small bites of steak, a bite or two of veggies and bite or two of potato and you are done. Take the rest home. Think of our plates, instead of being a full sized plate, they are the size of salad or desert plate. Cut the plate in half that half is protein, then cut the other half in half. One of those is veggies the other is carbs. You will learn to know when you are getting full. If you keep going it's going to become REALLY uncomfortable or you might even throw up. A remember no drinking a half hour before or half hour after. Good Luck

In the two years I have had mine I have gone thru 3 different styles of masks. So don't get frustrated go back and get re-fitted with a different style. Remember this condition is deadly if not taken serious. The most famous case I can think of is Reggie White, NFL football player for the Packers died at like 46 or something from it.

I have had CPAP for about 2 years. It does take a little getting used to, but nothing major. The biggest thing is make sure your mask is comfortable and seals well. My wife loves it..no more snoring and it makes very little noise.
