surgury wed but havent been cleared yet.
Wow! how irresponsible... you should call the drs office and have the on-call dr call you back...that is unacceptable!!!! Worse case scenario, I'd go in at the scheduled time tomorrow and hope all is well... can you call your insurance company??? Good luck to you, let us know!

Day 5 dramas and what not
yes, gasiness can be resolved with walking for most of us if you are feeling nauseous however, you need to contact your doctor...you shouldn't feel that way all the time. liquids will help, make sure you are getting enough.... Good luck to you both

Protein
If you are looking for protein shakes, try InsureNutrition.com to see if you qualify for FREE (insurance covered) shakes, scar cream and vitamins... for protein bars, I like to mix up power crunch and quest I am going to get some unflavored protein as a friend of mine throws that into EVERYTHING she eats to help up her intake

Going insane already
I can be difficult...my question is are you getting enough Protein? That may be the reason you feel like that. Try something hot... decaf tea, broth... it takes longer to sip it and may help you get thru a rough patch...

cant stop eating to fast.....
I think instead of baby utensils, I'm going to try plastic...have you ever tried cutting protein with a plastic knife? Takes F O R E V E R!!!

Recipe section for each surgery
Aren't the recipes pretty much the same for all procedures, or am I missing something there? @@Alex Brecher, I thought the Protein, less carbs plan was for everyone... just curious what would be different

Pre-op diet in the mail?
That's what I'm thinking you mean too... it's InsureNutrition.com... only a few minutes to fill out and you may qualify for free (insurance covered) protein shakes, scar cream and vitamins... good luck

Protein bars ?
Love Power Crunch Vanilla and also the chocolate mint (think Thin Mints) they are more "light" than Quest... but a nice change of taste... but the quest bars are more filling for me for a "grab and go" meal... go someplace where you can buy bars in different flavors before you buy a box full... you have to find what works for you

Disappointed in surgeon's office's reaction to VSG internet forums
I agree! I like this forum for support and basic understanding and commiserate or Celebrate I call it the "FB of WLS"... while we can get some good information and feel supported here, we do have to be aware of what our doctors tell us to do is what we should do (as stated above)... some doctors want 2 week pre/post op diet, some want a few days, and some not at all... right there is shows the inconsistancies that can happen.... "do as you're told. not as I (we) say"

cant stop eating to fast.....
I struggle with the same thing... I think I'm slowing down...and try to chew slower and then I don't concentrate and eat faster... I loaded that app, need to USE it now!

John Pinette (comedian) dies at 50
We loved John Pinette too! My husband was hoping to see him next time he comes to town ... so sad...and he had lost some weight...don't know if he gained it back or not... Makes me think of Gabriel Ingleses (aka "Fluffy")... I hope he does something soon... ... so sad...

Does Cancer count as Comorbid condition for.insurance approval ?
That list is great, @@Miss Mac...but I think "premature death" would be a game changer all the way around! LOL

Does it just put you in a NEW stage of awkward?
Yes, when you barely have touched the food the waiters always ask if everything was all right (if they are good waiters anyway)... just relax and enjoy who you are!

Surgery april 8...excited!
Sounds like you are PUMPED for this...congrats...you know, I thought I'd miss all that crap too...but I don't! Truly don't! Especially my diet coke...I was a coke-aholic... an easy 2 liters a day...don't drink coffee... but I have my unsweet decaf tea and it's all good... syrups add some nice flavor for a change... My favorite snack-raw almonds!!! It's amazing what you can do when you try... cauliflower pizza, spaghetti squash is a favorite, etc.... congrats!

Monday morning will be my turn ! Im so nervous . I

Are you open or private about surgery and why?
My sister had a gastric bypass done about ten years ago...and a few people here in my office had the sleeve just before me (that's how I knew it was covered)... I have been somewhat open about it... if I know you, I'll tell you...for strangers that know me from "sight" I keep it kind of general, like you did. I know what you are saying about being ashamed that you had to have surgery for this... I get it...as do most of us... But in my seminars, they talked about how it's genetic, etc., and that took off some of the stigma... also people are more informed about the surgeries than they were years ago... and anyone who thinks it's the "easy way out" needs to spend time in our shoes... as far as telling people the truth that you told a "half-truth" to before... if they are your friends, they will understand that you felt awkward...or whatever term you want to use... about telling people... in the end, it's all up to you.... but you've got this...congrats

Ughhh Pls Not Another Protein Shake
I was going to suggest syrups too... wal-mart carries a few flavors of Torani, found the best selection at World Market (if you have one near you)... Bed, Bath and Beyond carries Skinny Girl syrups...picked up a pomagranate on my last visit...will be trying soon! also this website has recipes available to "mix it up" Good luck

Raw Diet an Option?
As long as you have some type of protein you should be fine, eventually...but yes, vegetables bothered me in the beginning as well... especially broccoli and any form of lettuce
-
leak test?
Yeah I found out that my surgeon did it while I was still on the table, so if there was a leak, he could fix it right then and there... it sounds like all is good
-
Does it just put you in a NEW stage of awkward?
Yep, be prepared! I always carry a Quest bar for a quick meal/snack if I need it, or raw almonds. Almost all restaurants have a baked chicken option these days, so you should be able to find something you can eat at all times... but if you are concerned, PACK your meal... It will work itself out...

How to handle this...instead of gorging myself with food
