I really hope that you weren't address this to me. I didn't lecture anyone. I simply answered a question based on my experience and personal beliefs. I didn't do in a rude manner which is more than I can say for some of the responses in this thread. Your philosophy on doing things in moderation is understandable, but what you do in moderation is not what I might do in moderation. I stated what works for me, and plainly said that what works for me, and the commitment that I made is my decision and may not work for everyone.
And please do not try to tell me or anyone else what should or should not be posted. As long as I am within the terms of service set out by the moderators, I will post exactly what I choose to post. If you don't like what I post you simply don't have to read it. As I said in my disclaimer, I may post something that you don't want to hear, but I will not hold my tongue. Thank you.

A question was asked to people who are in a similar situation. I think your personal lectures on "backsliding" and such is really uncalled for and rude. We all have vices but they're not the same. The analogy using AA was good except when you go to a meeting and admit you fell off they don't get lectured they get support to fight another day.
The purpose of this forum so I thought was for support. The purpose of our new tool is ultimately to learn how to live life with things in moderation. If you can drink soda, eat dessert, drink alcohol and any other taboo behaviors in moderation then your on point!! Less judgment people we get enough of that from "regular" people no place for it here.
    Have a blessed day! ; )

I quit smoking almost 8 years ago. I inadvertently quit drinking pop as well. Once I got through detoxing from both it didn't make sense to me to pick up a bad habit again.
But still, once every 6-9 months I get a powerful taste for diet coke. My previous poison preference. Here in good ole Ohio we have this marvel called Polar Pops. For $0.69 you can buy any size fountain pop they have ranging from 16 oz to 64 oz. I've been known to partake in a caffeine free diet coke, heavily iced. I made sure to do that right before surgery to get my fix. And it was a whole 64 oz, as I do not plan to revisit pop anytime soon. Down the road, who knows. But it's not in my plans.
I guess my biggest point is this. I don't want to "plan" on food or beverages any more. I don't want to anticipate eating or drinking. Right now that whole concept, for me, is a trigger.
Maybe my brain will be effectively retrained down the road, but for now I'm trying my hardest to tow the line. Walk the walk. I need to know without any doubt that I'm confident in my decision making. I know I'm not there at 7 weeks postop. I don't see me being there at four months postop either. But that's me.

I think an occasional soda is fine, just like an Occasional drink is fine. You aren't gonna die if you have a diet coke! I used to be really bad with them though, and now four months out I can tolerate maybe a half of a diet coke , but the carbonation does fill you up quickly. I've learned to obey the signals when my stomach is full - when I first feel full, I better stop. When I get the hiccups I really really should stop, and then anything beyond that, I'm in danger of puking....but I'm sure it's different for everyone...

I was told six weeks for soda. I was told that the bubbles in it will most certainly NOT stretch my sleeve. I was told that the bubbles MAY make me feel discomfort in which case I should not drink it.
I haven't had any interest in having any yet, but when I do, I'll have some.. Pre-surgery I'd have maybe a 20 ounce soda a couple times a month which I don't see as excessive. If soda was a "trigger food" for me then I'd want to avoid it, but for me it's just a nice happy beverage option that I'd like to enjoy on occasion in the future.
I do not understand the "anti-soda" contingent. Personally I feel quite strongly that wheat products are the devil for ME and why would I ever want to put them in my body again. Because for ME they act as trigger foods and they kinda make me feel icky.... but I do recognize that for others this may not be the case. There is no one size fits all approach here.

Yes I've had soda. It didn't cause any problems but it did make me feel very full for hours. It was like the bubbles just sat in there the rest of the day. Some people tolerate it very well though. My suggestion would be to just have a couple sips here and there, for no other reason than to avoid the full feeling that may keep you from eating real food.< /p>
Oh - and good for you having the very nerve to ask a question that our die-hard forum members will consider a "rule breaking" behavior:) Get ready for all the preaching that will most likely follow your question. Just go ahead and read it all while having a taste of your favorite carbonated beverage.

Nope. This is the end of the road for WLS for me. I'm not going to fail on this. Having a back up plan with, "well, if the sleeve doesn't work, I have another option" my dieting life existed on excuses and my life is done with that.
If I don't believe in my self now, I never will. I am going to be and I am going always continue to be successful. PERIOD!

Don't feel bad OTR!! We're only human and messing up is part of life! I think it's good you reaching out for support! The great thing about the sleeve is you can mess up and still get back on track. You know what to do, get back to the basics! You can do it! I know you can! You did it before!

ME TOO!!! OH MY GOSH... well not really, a stall but the same fear because i'm nearing that point where most people get stuck and don't loose as much or as fast. i've been loosing 1 to 2 lbs a week, this week i didn't loose anything. so i know my time is coming. I too find that i can eat more, faster and I'm beyond scared, i'm freaked out about it. I go to a monthly meeting but I think I need to get with a counselor or someone, one on one. Hang in there. let's all support each other.

That's funny! Not! But I know what you mean I keep seeing the part In my hair looking bigger.
But just today I was blow drying my hair and the sides looked so thin as the air hit it, all I could see is scalp!
Not to mention when I blow dry hair flys all over the bathroom!
Hell even my hair in the profile picture looks thinner!

My surgeons office has a clothes closet where you can donate the stuff that no longer fits and take some smaller size items. I think it's awesome to have that option

Well, I'm 6 wks out today and 31# down. 3 to share. 1. My son and I went hiking last weekend. I made it 3 miles on a difficult trail. A quarter of the way through at the top of a hill, my son stopped me and said " remember this spot? Its where you were out of breath and your ankles hurt so bad, I saw tears in your eyes. Now your keeping up with me." We finished at a very brisk pace this time.
    2. He said he was proud of me
    3. A patient asked why I'd had an MRI. As I was encouraging him through his PET scan. I told him I'd had a ministroke at age 37 due to being overweight and high BP. He looked me up and down and was surprised because he thought I looked "healthy"..
I still have 65# to lose, but its a start.

liquids and the first stages are pretty much slider foods and you won't feel the true full feeling until you eat normal foods.

I gave mine away. I used to take them to my face-to-face support group meetings and let people take them from the back of my car. Also gave some to local charities.
I kept one pair of my largest pants. I can fit into one leg of those. Expect pics next week in honor of my two year surgiversary.

Yes I do and I was sleeved the same day as you , I think we can eat more now is cause we are all healed and our swelling has gone down, I think if you just keep tracking and keep doing what you are doing you be fine the stalls happen and they will continue to happen you just need to keep your chin up and keep doing what you know is right and you will get there

I'm only two months post- op and down two sizes but I LOVe puirging the clothes that are now too big. I've put two pair of pants and a favorite sweater into the corner of the closet and everything else is GOING, GOING, GONE into two big trash bags...One with crappy stuff that can't be resold that goes into the collection box on the highway and the other to the resale shop for cancer patients downtown. Sure, it feels kind of weird tucking away some once-favorite (and expensive) items but it feels even better getting into clothes I haven't been able to wear for years. As I write this I'm wearing a skirt that I know will be making its last appearance! It's an elastic waist Sarah Arizona beauty that I bought six years ago at Nordstrom but the waistband is way too stretched out.
I mentioned to my doctor's assistant that it's a shame there's no room at the clinic for a bariatric "closet" where patients can donate and borrow special occassion outfits. I have a wedding coming up and don't want to shell out the $ for a dress I know I'll only be able to wear once.
