    Fruit In Protein Drink.

    My NUT told me it was fine to add half a banana to my shake and I started that about 1 week post op. I just added a little more milk early on to make sure it was not so thick and went down easier. My Protein shake is 1 scoop Designer whey chocolate Protein powder, 1/2 banana, and 1 cup skim plus milk. I think NUTs are different for everyone and have different ideas about what is and what is not acceptable. Mine was fine with my recipe from the beginning and the important thing is that I enjoy it enough to drink 2 a day if needed to get all my protein in.
  2. Hi all! I am 7 weeks post op and had an appointment with my metabolic physician today. I have lost a total of 37 pounds , I'm down one size in shirts, and 2 sizes in pants, I've actually been able to wear regular shoes (not wide-widths) that are comfy and stylish, and I'm also wearing rings and bracelets that I haven't been able to wear in years. I've had a lot of NSVs and I think they feel better than seeing the numbers going down on the scale (I'm also not weighing myself except for when I go to the doctor every 4 weeks or so). I hired a personal trainer to work out with and help me develop a good exercise regimen. I still have some discomfort every now and then with my incisions and what I guess is internal healing but its not often. My bloodwork came back good, too. The only thing that was a problem was that I apparently have an under-active thyroid, my sugar levels were still a little high (but lower than pre-surg) and my Vitamin D levels were low. So I'll start a Vitamin D supplement and was prescribed something for my thyroid. I'll continue taking my acid reflux medication as well as my Multivitamin and Calcium supplement, but other than that, no other meds!!! As far as my sugars, that will continue to go down with diet and exercise. They expect within 3 months that all my levels will be perfect since I'm already doing so well. I'm really excited about this journey so far. I've been so pleased with my recovery and have had very few complications. I'm on a regular diet, have had pretty much no issues with food, and overall just feeling great. Fingers crossed it continues!

  4. So I've been trying to come up with different things I can prepare in advance and have ready to take to work with me. I made this today and it came out really good, and its such an easy thing to grab and take with me. Ingredients 6 eggs 1/2 cup skim milk (I used Skim Plus for some extra protein) 3 small turkey sausage patties (I used Banquet fully cooked turkey sausage patties) 3 TB green pepper 3 TB onion 1/4 cup reduced fat shredded cheddar 1 TB extra virgin olive oil Salt and pepper to taste Preheat oven to 350 degrees Dice pepper and onion, Saute in olive oil over medium heat until soft While those are sautéing, mix eggs and milk in bowl (season mixture with salt and pepper to your liking) Pour mixture into muffin pan (I used a jumbo muffin pan that made 6 muffins and filled each about half way with the egg mixture). Also, make sure you spray with non-stick spray if not using a non-stick pan Distribute veggies, sausage, and cheese evenly in each muffin Place in oven and cook for approximately 15 minutes Nutritional info: Per Serving: 143 calories 2g carbs 10g fat 12g Protein If you substitute the eggs with Egg Beaters instead (1/4 cup serving per muffin), you can reduce the calories and fat. The nutritional info would then be: Per Serving: 84 calories 1g carb 5g fat 10g protein

    Upper Gi

    I didn't have to take or drink anything for my upper GI. I chose to have mine with anesthesia so I went to the hospital, they hooked up my IV, sprayed nasal spray that numbed my nasal passage and throat, then put me under. After that, they just put a scope down my throat and the doc looked at whatever he needed to. All in all, I was only out for about 30 minutes and woke up in recovery with no problems. I guess every doc does them a little different.
  6. So I went for my 4 week post-op follow up with my doctor. I'm down 24 pounds (I guess this is good?), down an entire clothing size, and cleared for pretty much all activity now. I start back at the gym on Monday and hired a personal trainer. I'm feeling pretty good, though I do still have some discomfort on my right side. They aren't sure if it is the scar tissue and healing of the incision in the area or possibly my gaul bladder. I just have to watch it and if it persists or becomes painful, I have to be checked out. If it turns out to be my gaul bladder then they'll remove that. I knew that might be a complication but I hope it really is just the incision. For anyone else 4 weeks or more, how did you feel at your 4 week follow up and how much weight did you lose at that point?
  7. I just had my one month follow-up since surgery and I'm down 24 pounds. I think you're right around the average that you should be at. Don't get discouraged...that weight loss is great and its pounds you'll never see again!!!
  8. I was sleeved on 9/5 and am doing great. My incisions are the only thing that makes me even feel like I had surgery. I have no more pain, gas, nausea, etc. I'm getting used to the pureed food diet but definitely looking forward to moving on to the next stage in a few weeks. I'm down 24 pounds since surgery!
  9. Like most everyone else, I've struggled with finding a Protein shake that I can tolerate. Well, I finally found one that I really like. And the plus is that it is really simple so I can easily make it right before leaving for work and drink it on my drive in. Its the Designer whey chocolate Protein powder. I use one full scoop of powder, 1 cup of Skim Plus milk (has more protein than regular milk), and half a banana. I mix it all together with my Magic Bullet blender then serve it over ice. IMO, the Protein shakes are always better the colder they are. Nutritional info: 30g protein 263 calories 33g carbs 2g fat Just thought I would share for anyone else is struggling to find one they like. Just another option!

    I Did Feel Good...

    I can tell you that day 5 for me was the worst. I felt great when I initially came home from the hospital then pretty awful within a few days with pain, discomfort and sleeplessness. I was able to sleep in my recliner, but definitely not in my bed. It only lasted about 2 days thank goodness, then I was back to feeling pretty good. Hope you're feeling better soon!

    Drinking Water

    I get that same feeling when I take too big a sip of water at one time. Like the others said, try taking even smaller sips and see if that helps. It will get better!

    Sleeve Done On 9/12

    I had trouble sipping water constantly as well but I did chop up sugar free popsicles into little pieces and ate those to help supplement my intake. It worked out well for me.

    Frozen Yogurt?

    My local frozen yogurt spot has a fat-free, sugar free vanilla frozen yogurt. My NUT told me I could have that if I wanted it but that I should let it melt a little so its a bit softer/thinner. I just entered my puree/full liquid stage too.
  16. So I had my first follow-up appointment yesterday with my surgeon since being sleeved on 9/5. I feeling pretty good so far and he said I'm having a picture perfect recovery. I was shocked, though very excited, to learn that I've lost 18.5 pounds since my surgery just over a week ago. I've been cleared to move on to the next stage of my diet to pureed foods. I'll be on that for 3 weeks before I graduate to soft solids. I'm not looking forward to the next 3 weeks of trying to come up with things to eat that satisfy me, but I am looking forward to continuing to see the positive results of getting my VSG.
  17. I was able to eat tomato soup one week post-op. I took a can of Progresso Hearty Tomato, watered it down as per my NUTs instructions, and also added grated parmesan, then put it all in the blender until there were no chunks. It was the first thing I ate after being graduated from Clear liquids and it was sooooo good!

    I also made a can of tomato soup but added Water and some grated parmesan cheese then threw it in the blender to puree it. Absolutely fantastic! Other than that and my Protein shakes, I'm still trying to find other things to eat. Going shopping tomorrow.

    My NUT actually recommended baby food for the pureed food stage. I'm going shopping tomorrow because I just started the pureed food stage and figured I'd look at them, but I'm also willing to make all my own stuff too so not sure whether I'll buy any or not.

    Sleeping On Stomach Or Side

    I was sleeved on 9/5 and I still can't sleep on my belly or my side. I've tried on my side and its very uncomfortable; haven't tried on my belly and have no intention of doing so for a while. I'm also uncomfortable sleeping on my back so I completely understand how you feel.

  24. I came across this recipe online while searching for high Protein pureed recipes and thought I would share. It says it makes one serving though it seems to me it might be on the large side based on the quantity of ingredients, and it is a bit high in calories but it does sound delicious. I'm excited to try it. Salsa Scrambled eggs with Peppers and Onions Ingredients: 3 eggs 1⁄2 medium raw green pepper 1⁄4 medium raw onion 1⁄4 c salsa 2 tbsp. whole milk mixed with 4 tbsp dry milk 2 tsp. vegetable oil Instructions: Clean and chop pepper and onion into small pieces; puree in food processor; set aside. Puree salsa & set aside in a separate bowl. Combine eggs and milk in a bowl; mix with a fork until blended. Heat 1 tsp of oil in medium frying pan. Sauté’ mixture into pan and mix constantly with wooden spoon (goal is to scramble eggs). Remove from heat when eggs are thoroughly cooked (not runny). Pour salsa over scrambled eggs and ENJOY!!! Nutritional Information: Yields 1 serving 525 calories per serving 31g protein per serving
  25. Hi everyone, So I was sleeved on Wednesday, September 5th. Everything went well with the actual surgery and I woke up in recovery just fine. Started on Water and ice chips with no problems. While in the hospital, I was given anti-nausea medication, heparin injections, acid reflux medication, and pain medication. I had a doppler done the day after surgery and it was found that I had developed a blood clot so they decided to keep me an extra night. I came home on Friday afternoon and have been feeling pretty good. I take extra strength tylenol the majority of the time when I'm experiencing pain or discomfort, and only take the liquid painkiller (Roxycet) when I feel like I truly need it, which isn't often since I came home. I only had to take the anti-nausea medicine once so far. And then I'm on twice daily injections of Lovenox (which suck) for the next 4 weeks or so to treat my blood clot, acid reflux medication once a day, and a daily multi-Vitamin. Overall, I'm surprised with how good I'm feeling. I've been able to keep water, tea, sugar-free popsicles, and sugar-free Jello down with no problems, though I do have to ingest it very slowly otherwise i cramp up a bit. I walk several times a day and did the stairs up and down 3 times today with no problems. I have some right side pain and discomfort and find it hard to find a comfortable position to sleep in, and have minor pain from the gas pockets, but overall I'm surprised I feel as well as I do. I'm looking forward to continuing on my road to recovery and rediscovering an appreciation for food as vital to living and no other reason. Here's hoping I continue to feel as good as I do moving forward!
