  1. Every day is better! I was walking around from day 1 trying to clear the gas, and I felt miserable for the first week. You're on Day 7, so I hope you feel better soon! I was lucky enough to have a single-incision surgery, though, so it's definitely possible there will be more healing time needed for you. I'm amazed at the people who do it essentially outpatient. Crazy people! Good luck! You WILL love it!

  2. Oh, you poor thing!

Other options besides dairy and water are almond milk and coconut milk. I really like using almond milk in my protein. If you have a milk allergy, the whey protein might not work for you, either, and you might need to get something else. If you can tolerate whey with water, though, you will likely also be able to tolerate whey with almond or coconut milk (unless, of course, you're allergic to almonds or coconuts) - and that way you can dilute the shakes as much as you need to handle them. And if smelling soup broth makes you nauseous, but doesn't actually make you emptying-your-sleeve-sick, you might have to manage with that. I really loved the unjury chicken soup, which was pretty thin but full of protein.

I agree with the other comment about a therapist. Please know that this depression is situational, and you won't feel like it's not worth living when you get through this. You got your sleeve because you want to be healthy, and you're worth it.

Please take care of yourself, as best you can! And hopefully you have other folks who can help take care of you, as well!

  3. Thanks, petal. Sounds like things are going well for you. :) I've been watching a lot of videos of the surgery, and it looks a lot easier when the liver is solid and small. It makes sense that carb and fat starvation cause your liver to release its stores of glycogen, but how fast that happens and how fast it reconverts is something I don't know about. We'll see what my doc says today. I'm not in the mindframe that he's going to suggest I reschedule now, so I hope that's the right spot.

  4. I'm afraid of that, too - I don't know how much of a difference your starting weight matters, either. Am I less likely to have a problem because I'm a low BMI to start with? Or no matter how heavy you are to start with, 2 weeks on the same diet gets most of the fat out of everyone's liver?

I've been reading a little more tonight, and I super super super want my liver to shrink because my doctor's planning to do a single-site through the belly-button area, and I don't want him to have to convert to a multi-site. I think when I see him Thursday I'm going to fess up and see if we should reschedule. :( That would suck a lot because I've done a lot of planning around it with a friend flying in to be with me for the first week, and making sure it was the absolutely best time to take vacation. Rats.

  5. *hugs* There is a lot of information, and there are a lot of options. I've heard a lot of positives about Dr. Garcia, though I don't know what group he works with. Information is power, though. Gather, gather, gather so you can make an informed decision, and go through the Mexico forum on here to see what others think. It can drive you crazy, but it's not like you're going to get your hair done.
