  1. Mine tried the liquid diet too. I asked him to stop after 4 days because he just wasn't doing it right and I didn't want him to hurt himself. I was at least being monitored by a doc. This surgery has brought the two of us so much closer. He took the best care of me when I needed him. I am glad there are other women who get to enjoy husbands that are that sweet. You don't see many of those anymore
  2. I had mine through Darnell Army Medical on Fort Hood. The beginning of the process goes quickly. Then you are put on a wait list. Don't pressure yourself on time because they can call anywhere between 3-9 months after you are waitlisted. I was on the list in October and got mine April 9th. Its good to wait a bit and get your head on straight and get into good habits in advance. Good luck and have patience!!
  3. I am about 3 weeks out. I didn't have trouble with the eggs when I first started. However, I did notice that I could hardly eat egg compared to other mushy foods. It is not only loaded with protein but very dense. I haven't had a reaction to much of anything yet because I take tiny tiny bites and go really slow. This way I only have a tiny bit of a new food in me before things go wrong. I understand a lot of people have problems with peanut butter for quite a while. I have found the one thing I cannot take is mayonnaise on anything. I thought it was the tuna, apparently not. Take all new things really slowly, the only nausea I have had is when I forget and drink after I eat. Both times, I vomited. I have to think I haven't had many other issues so far because of how I am approaching new food. I hope it gets better for you soon!
  4. You have to find your motivation. No matter how slow you are going you are still lapping everyone who is sitting on the couch!
  5. Don't worry about it. This stall is inevitable. When you break through it, you will probably lose a bunch of weight at once
  6. This phenomenon actually has a name. It is called body dismorphia and is perfectly normal. It takes a while for your brain to catch up to your body post op. It could take quite a few years. You are so used to seeing something specific in the mirror, it is what your brain expects. The person who suggested that you hold two pictures side by side is right, it will help, but it will still take you a little while to see yourself as anything but the "fat girl" that you are used to seeing in the mirror. Congrats on doing so great with your surgery!!
  7. I am allowed to eat mushies at this phase. I also had my surgery on April 9th. I am cutting everything into tiny pieces and chewing it until it is total mush.
  8. I knew I was a bit strange but 117 views and no replies. wow.
  9. I am two weeks out from surgery and my stomach is acting very strangely. In the morning, I get up and make a scrambled egg with cheese and can't get in the last bite or two so I stop. However, tonight, I cut up half a chicken breast and chewed each tiny piece into little bits before swallowing. It took me 20 or 25 minutes to eat it, but when I was done I didn't feel full. I wasn't hungry, but I wasn't full either. Half a chicken breast seems like a lot two weeks out. How much were you eating two weeks out? I have been very careful not to stretch my stomach and am following the NUT diet religiously. I just don't know if that is normal or not.
  10. I am day 12 post op and have very little abdominal pain unless I pick up something heavier than I am supposed to. Mainly this is my fat cat and I always seem to forget he is twice the weight my doc said was okay to pick up. lol. I haven't taken any pain meds in days. I find deep breathing and stretching made it a little sore at first, but really helped it go away quickly.
  11. I would be careful with the soda. The main concern is that the carbonation "inflates" your stomach and over time will stretch it back out. I miss Ginger Ale the most so I feel you on that
  12. The idea of this may be a nightmare for many of you, but it may actually work for me. However, it isn't something you hear often. I have been having hunger pains since day 4 after surgery. As a matter of fact, its the first time in 15 years my metabolism has been right. I normally only ate one really large meal once a day and wasn't hungry the rest of the day so my body never wanted to lose weight because it was convinced I was going to starve it and held on to every bit of fat I ate. On day 4, every 4 hours or so I would get this PAINFUL feeling in my stomach, that after about 3 days I figured out was actually hunger! This may work because I am an A type personality that will forgo food for work that needs to be done but if this keeps up I will drop everything every 4 hours to get a few bites of food. Does this happen to anyone else? Like I said, this may not work for everyone, but it might be very beneficial for me. I had just never heard of it before.
  13. I was allowed to use sugar free vitamin C lozenges literally the day after surgery.
  14. Sandra, if you had body issues that were so severe you had trouble being intimate with the lights on, weight loss alone is not likely to help this. In most case, it is a central self esteem problem and you will wind up finding something else unless you get help to work on this problem. As for the question you originally posted, I can only tell you what is happening so far in my case. My husband had been having problems with insecurity as I was getting closer and closer to date. I had to realize that I am not the only one going through this change, it was the entire family. I started doing extra things to help him be more secure in the upcoming situation. We have been together for 12 years and I explained to him that when I lose weight he will be the only one I ever knew for sure loved me dearly through "thick and thin". He is taking great care of me and is doing much better with everything in the past few weeks. I was just sleeved on the 9th and he is taking amazing care of me. If anything, this is making our relationship stronger. Also, he is injured and cannot be as active as he used to be. However, months ago, I started eating better and bringing the family along with me. He is losing quite a bit of weight himself and is feeling better about how he looks as well. He also enjoys going out and doing different more active things with me now. We used to be very active people and bonded over this, but as we got older and both got injured we slowed down significantly. This procedure has helped us come closer together again as we have started to examine where things changed. Just remember you aren't the only one going through this change and it can be a great thing for your relationship! Sorry if this isn't as coherent as I would have liked. I am only a few days out from surgery and the pain meds are pretty effective. lol Good luck with everything!
  15. So do protein drinks count as protein and liquid? I will never get it all in if I don't count them together.
  16. I was sleeved on Monday afternoon and to put it simply, I can't tell if I am hungry, I can't tell if I am full. I am not sure what to do. I do not want to stretch my pouch but I do two ounces of fluids and nothing feels different, so I just stop. My stomach is almost always making some kind of rumbling feeling now, so I can't tell when I am hungry either. Any suggestions would be wonderful! Thank you
  17. Okay, I looked it up. Should have done that in the first place ;P
  18. In the past two days I have had some serious issues with dragon breath. These are days 7 and 8 of my pre-op diet. I know liver changes can be indicated by changes to your breath, but I was wondering if anyone else experienced this? I can brush and use listerine, but it only seems to work for about 30 minutes before my breath is horrible again. Never had this problem before 2 days ago and my teeth are all in great condition, so I am confused.
  19. My biggest issue is that this website won't stop emailing me!
  20. Happy Passover Everyone!
  21. I am having between 70-90 grams of Protein and about 28 grams of carbs a day. I also am drinking TONS of fluids, broth, crystal lite and Jello (sugar free). My Protein drinks are EAS Carb control and GNC 100% whey Protein over the course of a day. Also, I get one sugar free popsicle a day and of course all Vitamins have at least 1g of carb so I add that to my 30 or less carb count.
  22. OMG! I am going nuts here. I already had to miss the passover seder because I am on my pre-op liquid diet. I let that slide, because there isn't much to be done about it and I just avoided the situation completely. However, I have been without solid food for 7 days now and I sat with my son and dyed eggs for an hour and a half. All I could think about was egg salad, deviled eggs etc. etc. and all the stuff my husband is going to make with those eggs that I can't begin to touch. I know I will be getting all of it back soon enough, but it was sheer hell. After he goes to bed, I have to mess with candy and do his damn basket!!! I picked stuff this year I really don't much like, but right now everything looks good. I am not even really a candy person and I swear I can smell the chocolate through the sealed containers. Tonight, my husband is going to put the candy in the eggs and tomorrow we will hide them along with some of the ones we died tonight. Then in the morning I have to deal with all of this all over again. On top of this, I feel horribly guilty because my husband isn't eating much. I keep telling him to go eat, I know he is hungry and he says he just wants to be near me. I came around the corner today and he has a fork in a can of ravioli and he stops cold, like a kid caught in a candy jar. I haven't gotten on him for it, I have just been avoiding food. If anything, I have been telling him I know he is not eating enough. He keeps doing this anyway. I can't wait until my surgery Monday so I can stop being SO hungry. It doesn't matter how much I drink, my stomach growls SO loudly all the time. It even woke me up last night. I have lost 11 lbs in 7 days on this diet and I am very pleased with that. Today is the first day I truly got cranky about this though and tomorrow is not going to be any easier. Sigh.
  23. You can get these at HEB too.
  24. I have heard some people say they can tolerate it at 3 months. However, alcohol is empty calories so I wouldn't until you are at least at maintenance.
  25. You mean processed sugars yes? Our bodies make sugar on their own out of unused carbohydrates (one of the reasons carbs are so addictive). Lots of great sugars in fruits too.
