  1. Pdxman, very interesting. I get a great deal of sunshine now that I live in Florida. In fact, I work out in it all day. Thinking back, in Ohio I had more bouts with depression. The extra light along with the vitamin D could be the link. I crave milk like it's hootch. Could be my body reaching out for more calcium.
  2. I feel ya! I wanted to adjust mine with a .357 Magnum.
  3. Well, I have no "time of the month" problems to speak of unless you are talking about rent time. I did go through a period of depression that appeared unconnected to anything that was happening in my life. It may sound kind of psuedo-scientific spooky but I read that fat cells store chemicals that when released put the same thing that you were going through back on you. I had bouts of depression through my fat times, I had chemotherapy and many fights with sickness. During my losing time I fought off low-grade fevers and went through odd emotional phases. i didn't go hide in the woods or join an obscure orange worshipping cult but I had times where I didn't seem like my old rational self. Now I am pretty constant in my normal level of sanity and haven't been sick in a long, long time. I am not saying to not get help if you need it. The preceeding was just the dubious observations of a man who has a wife and still manages to stay happy.
  4. Hmmmm.... maybe fat functions like a cloaking device...sounds like a money maker...oh, yeah...this is the wrong place to ask for experimental subjects...ya'll are de-cloaking!
  5. It can be frustrating! Did your NUT really say no carbs? Protein first, but no carbs is not right. Your body needs carbs to function correctly. Without carbs there is no fiber, asking for constipation which will most definitely slow weight loss.
  6. Those of us who don't take ourselves too seriously will not mind posting on a thread containing a question that has been asked many times. I tried taking myself seriously once but looked into a mirror and ruined the whole thing. WildChickie, sounds like you are doing what you can do. Your complex body has a schedule for weight loss. Unfortunately, your brain does not have the security clearance to see it. You apply science and discipline..the body must comply. It really is that simple. We also need patience which is giving time a chance. If you are like me most of my overweight was put on over a long period. It came off in a much shorter period comparitively but at the time it was coming off I wanted it to hurry up. That is human nature. Your body doesn't care about human nature. I occupied my waiting time looking at sharp skinny clothes and studying exercise regimes. I told my body, "Resistance is futile!" I am now a skinny Borg.
  7. My best to you! Keep us posted!
  8. I have an 83 year old brother-in-law who does the same. There is no working on him, he is what he is. Good thing I don't care.
  9. Great post, Heather. Wife and I order an appetizer, eat half, and get a box for the rest. All around are mountains of food being delivered to the "norms". We feel like Hobbits. I am Sam Wise Gamgee, she is Rosy from the Green Dragon.
  10. We're here for you, Rebecca. Another grampa applicant here. You're allowed as many as you want according to the grampa manual.
  11. I have to hand it to you for still considering her a friend. I sense that your continuing relationship with her is not because you are desperate for friends. You just have a lot of tolerance, you are a class act. You don't discard folks easily, ...strength of character. I had a picture in my mind of a person with a pet jaguar. It is pretty but can turn on you in a heartbeat.
  12. Old people get pushed aside as much as fat people. Don't think so? Come down to Florida after you turn 64 and try to get an entry level job.
  13. We may not be able to eat much at one time but we can eat too often which, in the long run, defeats the sleeve.
  14. My best to you and my prayers!
  15. Welcome, Carmsbiz! If you post more of what you eat and how much the food guru's here are most helpful. I would ask about exercise because that is my and my fitness friends' particular emphasis. You can get going again!
  16. Man I am glad you made it through this! I am glad you took action rather than just putting up with it! On the positive side now you have this essential bit of information about your condition which will help if and when operations appear in your future, the proper precautions can be taken now. I agree with Tignet, don't be afraid, folks, to talk to your health staff about pains. It is much better for them to think of you as an overly cautious pain in the arse then to have a serious condition that does you great harm. Make 'em earn their pay!
  17. Get ready to get new clothes, man. I suggest going to thrift stores and garage sales. Don't throw green down on threads that won't do you a fair amount of duty. Wait until 210 to get the glad rags. Your goal is what I passed a few months ago. I am now 208. I was stalled at 210 for about 4 months and didn't think it would go any further. You will get there. 210 is a great place to be. I saw after about a month after the operation that the scale was a poor indicator of what was going on. My clothes kept outgrowing me while the scale was oblivious to change. I continued to weigh myself but only for curiosity's sake, I got the picture about the trend....down, up, same, up, down, same, etc. A roller coaster track but always in the long run going down. Follow the guidelines, exercise like an athlete in training, down you go. Gman's guarantee!
  18. They will probably put you on a liquid diet for a while. After you heal up they will tell you to mind getting enough fiber. It is a challenge for us protein first folks but fiber is a must for us divertic prone people. I am doing well with fiber one cereal and an occasional slice of high fiber whole grain bread and salads. Don't get the trashy white bread. Benefiber, metamucel, are also good.
  19. http://www.webmd.com...-topic-overview I have had diverticulitus several times pre-sleeving. I know your pain, it's a bear. I have never heard it described as the colon collapsing on itself. I have always thought that it was:... Diverticulosis happens when pouches (diverticula ) form in the wall of the colon . If these pouches get inflamed or infected, it is called diverticulitis. This is the WEBMD definition. The nausea could be a part of the condition. Are you taking pills? I stayed away from pills for a long time after sleeving. There are liquid antibiotics but they are more expensive and a bit harder to get. Even at a year and nine months out I don't like pills. I use liquids or chewables whenever possible. Sometimes I even chew up regular pills...pretty gross at times.
  20. That's a great article, Laura. There most definitely sliders for me. The crackers and cookies thing is so true. I drink with those things, it's a given. Sloppy stuff goes down easy and can add up in volume. When I eat a steak or other dense protein it's over quickly. The article is worth copying. Thanks!
  21. Dude! You're in the powder room! Run quickly! **Gman backs out slowly**...Just came in to save my buddy, ladies..
  22. Welcome!! I would suggest you take it slow, sleevy needs time to heal. Follow the docs advice. The oatmeal and eggs could be a bit premature. Egg drop Soup was a blessing during my liquid/pureed stage. The extra carefulness you invest now will pay off later. My wife and I both shed all of our meds including Metformin, high blood pressure meds, cholesterol meds, and we both beat sleep apnea.
  23. http://www.livescience.com/13726-weight-loss-surgery-memory-improved.html Here is an article siting improvement.
  24. The drugs slow down the cycle. Hydrocodone and the other drugs they give you can gum up the works. What Laura said about fiber is very true. Now that I can eat good whole grain bread and some cereals my going is going strong.
