  1. i haven't gotten mine yet ... I am sitting here having my atkins as I type ... the atkins one I'm eating has only 8 gr of protein, but it's so good ... tastes like a babe ruth ... lots of crunch w/nuts ... I hope I'm not disappointed in the quest ones when I get them .... arghhhh ... so hard to find a good protein bar! thanks for keeping me posted ... i'll let you know when I get mine and what I think of them ....
  2. thanks for all the info -- all good to know! Am waiting on my order to arrive! thanks!
  3. understood .. have fun!
  4. great - can't wait to hear your review. With any luck when, maybe tomorrow afternoon I'll get mine! I have to say, they are a tad expensive though -- didn't you think?
  5. I am waiting for mine to arrive ... I'm in NY .. .I ordered the other day too .. did you happen to get any peanut butter & jelly? I am so curious how those are! let me know if you try one of those & how they are! thanks ...
  6. let me know which ones you like best ... I ordered the peanut butter & jelly ones ... I'm curious about the other ones though, so let me know which ones you like best. I, too, have been having a hard time finding protein bars that I really like ... as I said, Atkins so far I like best, and Balance Bars - the peanut butter ones - are okay ... but am looking for that perfect protein bar and have yet to find it! So hoping quest works for me too!
  7. http://www.questproteinbar.com
  8. so glad to hear all of this -- I have, too, been using the atkins bars since so far they are the tastiest for me ... am now so excited to try Quest ... I hope I like them! Have placed my order tonight so should have by end of week, I guess. Will let you know .... (I also like Cliff bars, but they are fairly high in sugar and low in protein, so I don't actually think they are a wise choice). Thanks again for the Quest suggestion .. I hope I like them!
  9. okay - I'm giving Quest a try ... I just ordered some online ... I'm trying the peanut butter & jelly ones .. are those good? Is there someplace other than online that sells them at a better price so I know for next time?
  10. Dr. Mitchell Roslin -- he is in Lennox Hill and also in Westchester. He is an excellent doctor and has been doing this for many many many years .. I would highly recommend.
  11. thank you everyone ... I've been adding 1 or 2 spoonfuls of Eddies no sugar ice cream (my nutrionist said 1x a day that is ok) to my milk & some frozen strawberries and then a scoop of Jay Robbs protein powder and have been able to drink that this week, so I am happy ... and I'm still losing weight so I'm even happier! thanks everyone!
  12. My favorites seem to be Atkins .. they are the tastiest so far for me ... and the balance peanut butter bar is good too ... I didn't like the pure protein bars -- they had a funny taste to me? Atkins came out with a protein bar that my husband and I both say reminds us of a baby ruth type of candy bar .. granted, it's only 9 or 10 gr. of protein, but it's a real treat at night when i feel like having a "treat" .... and I don't feel guilty since it's a protein bar .. :-)
  13. I understand ... I am just trying to increase my protein intake and am having a hard time w/shakes, so I am trying new things to encourage my having my protein shakes ... tonight I tried something called yoplait smoothie -- have you heard of that? it's fruit & small frozen yogurt pieces and you add skim milk & I also added some protein powder and put all in blender .. I think this is better for me calorie-wise than the eddies one .. it's only 70 calories per serving (the mixture is for 2 servings) and only 10g of sugar, so maybe this is a better choice?
  14. thanks - I appreciate the advice -- I'm no where near my goal, so I guess I better lay off those eddies shakes things and try another route .. thanks!
  15. has anyone tried Edys slow churned rich & creamy shake - froze shake mix? I tried one this morning & mixed w/a scoop of protein powder, 14 oz of skim milk, 1/2 banana and a tablespoon of peanut butter ... it was pretty good .. am wondering if this is ok? the shake alone has 210 calories and 6 g of protein, but with all the other stuff I add in the protein count goes way up (like up to almost 46 grams of protein) ... of course I can only have about 1/2 of the finished shake when it's done at a time since it's too filling . but am wondering if the calorie content is okay or is it too much? can anyone advise?
  16. I'm almost 4 months out .. that's basically all I live on -- SOUP SOUP SOUP ... I, too, can have a full can of soup, but usually blend it in my bullet so it's pureed since I try to have lentil soup a lot since it's full of protein ... I usually buy Amy's vegetable lentil soup and puree it in the bullet and add some vegetable broth for more liquid and some added flavor, and then heat and have .. it's deiish! Sounds to me like you are on the right path ... keep up the good work!
  17. I am 3.5 mos out, and so far, so good .. I admit, I struggle to meet my protein goals and don't always hit the marker ... but so far, no significant hair loss, although I am prepared to lose hair since everyone says they do...I'm just holding my breath for now ... I also switched shampoos prior to my surgery (9/24/11) to a sulphate free shampoo, so not sure if that has been helping or not, but so far, so good .. I, too, have a thick head of hair so I would be sad to experience significant hair loss, but as everyone else says, I would rather be healthy & lose weight & some hair, if need be, knowing that eventually it will grown back and I would still be a healthier me! Here's to a happy & healthy new year for all of us out there!
  18. no, Jay Robb does not have a smell compared to all other protein powders I have tried ... it's "unflavored" and does not have a smell ... that's why I was able to use it .. I hate the smell of protein powder too .. makes me gag ... and this did not have that ichy smell. keep the peace!
  19. and oh - sip, sip, sip ,,,,, do not drink anything fast or gulp ... tiny winy sips will get you to where you need to go ... I promise. If you sip sip sip, you won't throw up ... just don't take any big swallows or gulps .. you are not ready for that yet, and it might be a long long time before you can feel comfortable doing anything other than sips, so just hang in there .... better to sip and not feel sick than gulp and feel discomfort .... if you sip, you can work around feeling like you will throw up because you will know in advance if something agrees or disagrees with you right away ... just take it slow ... you will get there .. we all do!
  20. oh - and remember - the first three weeks were the hardest for me .. I used to walk around crying thinking I made the biggest mistake of my life -- but then, after the 3 week marker, it miraculously got easier every day and now I know I made the best choice for a healthier new life for myself! keep the peace ...
  21. Jas - I use Jay Robb's unflavored protein powder -- get it in Wholefoods -- I mix it w/a pack of chocolate alba, 10 - 12 oz of skim milk and 1.5 tablespoons of peanut butter ... put it all in blender and mix up ... sometimes I add 1/2 banana to it .... it doesn't have a protein smell, but all together, it's a whopping 46+ grams of protein, and I have to split it into two servings (one in morning and one in later afternoon) ... you might want to try that ... I am still not a big fan of protein drinks, trust me, but I do realize the importance of getting my protein in and the protein drink really helps me boost my protein intake daily, so I suggest you try your hardest to find something that works for you. Once you are able to have mushies, if you like lentil soup, I would suggest you mixing a can of Amy's vegetable lentil soup in a bullet (makes it really pureed) and heat up & have that -- one can will give you a whopping 16-18 grams of protein - again, you will have to split up in separate servings cause I don't think your new little pouch/tummy will allow you to have too much at once, but the warmth of the puree when heated will go down easier than room temperature protein drinks .. good luck - hang in there!
  22. thank you ... and you too -- looks like you are doing great re: your ticker. Congrats!!! Happy Happy ... merry merry!
  23. hang in there ... I think I told you this, but it took me about 3 weeks before i began to feel somewhat better .... I was crying a lot during those first three weeks, wondering if i had made the biggest mistake of my life ... but once that 3 week marker ended, i began to feel better, and it did get easier. I Hope that i happening to you. keep us posted.
  24. I am 3 mod out and still cannot drink water fast ... can sip, but not gulp. Everyone heals at different pace and everyone can do things differently ... so just take it slow, and relax ... you will learn what works for you best as you go along. And no drinking when you eat, unless, of course, you are choking or something like that .. and even then ... just tiny winy sips ... but basically, no drinking when eating ... you'll adjust to that perfectly fine ..we all do! :-) hang in there ...
  25. Hi - hang in there! The first 3 weeks were the hardest for me .. it will get easier for you, I promise! Do you have a support group you can go to? I see you are in Westchester, NY ... there's a support group at NWH the first Thursday of every month .. maybe you can come to that group meeting for more support?
