FishingNurse got a reaction from BrightEyes529 in Eating Out... Restaurant... Fast Food.
I get a steak burrito bowl from Chipotle with black Beans and light on the rice. I also get cheese and sour cream and the hot salsa. Even at almost 8 months out this lasts me at least 4-5 meals. I used to eat the entire thing! And chips! I also go to subway and take the top of the bread off.

FishingNurse got a reaction from hopefullythininme in Star Jones weight gain (80 lbs)
I looked into this a little-- I don't think she quite gained 80 pounds. But how can ANYONE not gain SOME (5-15 pounds??) weight back after weight loss surgery? We were all significantly overweight. Thats why were are on this website. Our bodies always want to go back to being fat. Always! The first 6 months after weight loss surgery we are only able to get in MAYBE 300-800 cals in a day. After a few years we can get a LOT more in... 2000+ cals easily for some including myself. So after the first year our metabolism is totally rolling at snails pace-- death trap! So gaining a few pounds is not hard. Losing the weight was the easy part. Keeping it off is the harder part. Just like after the countless diets we all tried pre-sleeve or pre-bypass. Yes, its way easier post op but we gotta keep at it! My life saver for keeping weight off/ not gaining is lifting weights.

Great reminder it's a tool, not a magic wand and should not be sold as one. Now, if they wanted to be fair, they could have put the results of behavior modification alone beside it and you see just how good a tool this is. But original point is well taken, prepare to hit the ground running following surgery and slow down to a jog for maintenance, but keep moving.

This study just confirms what I already knew...average is about 70ish percent of excess weight is lost within 1 year and 5 years out its closer to 50%. That is still VERY sucessful long term weight loss compared to 5% with diet and exercise, yes?
I am definitely interested if they detail in the full study what the factors were that contributed to more weight being kept off at 5 years. My guess is what I've heard before: exercise.
I intend to be above average in everything I do or in this case "below" average in terms of my weight. But I am just starting out.

She had surgery like friggen 12 or 13 years ago. I think she's done quite well maintaining her weight for that long. Hell, I've seen people gain it all back in less than 2 years.

FishingNurse got a reaction from Qbanma81 in How Much Can You Eat A Couple Years Out
I'm 16 months post op. I can eat 1 normal slice of pizza and some salad for example or 6 inch from subway minus the top bread and a couple chips. Or a small burger no top bun, with pickles and about 5 fries. Sure with some soda- i dont do diet though. Yes I chug Water, and feel like my portions are healthy. I maintain my weight easily and eat 2000 calories a day. :-)

I made it my goal to not ruin my metabolism-- at the advisement of an awesome personal trainer. I eat about 2000 cals a day in maintenance now. I have for an entire year. If I creep up, I cut back a bit. I got my cals up to 1200 as soon as I could post-op in an attempt to not tank my metabolism. I lost most of my weight at the 1500 calorie point. I still made goal at 8.5 months post op! I think I am able to eat a hefty 2K per day now cause I work out and stay active and cause I didn't stay below 1200 cals a day for long. My friend that had gastric bypass ate 600 cals a day for almost year so now when she started eating a measly 1000-1200 a day now she has regained 50 pounds.
Thats why I love my sleeve. I can maintain my weight now at a reasonable calorie count!!!!

FishingNurse got a reaction from Dreamingofhealth in How is everyone doing 3-5 years out?
I have been a member on this site since before I was "sleeved"... almost 4 years! I have not checked in for months! It feels good to come back and see how everyone is doing and read how excited all the newbies are!
So basically 95% of the time I forget I had WLS. I have been hovering with in 10 pounds of my low weight. I go back and forth, like a normal person does. No complications except low Iron occasionally. My portions are more "normal" But my metabolism has picked back up and I am fairly active.
STILL THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER DONE FOR MYSELF :-)
How about you? How are you doing 3-5 years out?

There are days I have gone beyond 3000 calories easily! I could TOTALLY go back to 262 pounds. I won't... but I totally could. I have to pay attention. I feel like the sleeve makes this sooooo much easier. I am feel lucky everyday that I had this procedure!!!

@@Oregondaisy I added up my calories on Easter, and it was 3000! Yikes. I know with certainty I can easily weigh 300 pounds again in a year. No problem. All I have to do is eat candy and cheese cake and pick all day. So glad I am able to get right back on my usual diet after a day. That is something the sleeve either gave me or helped me learn - that one bad day or meal shouldn't become reason to continue. I sure hope that never changes.
