  1. The Pre-Op Diet is not easy! I haven't started mine yet but I have been doing gluten free for awhile. The other night my mom asked me to pick up a veggie pizza for her on my way to drop off my son for the evening. I resisted her offers to have some at first but caved when I came to pick him up and I hadn't had dinner. Mom's and MIL's just want to feed us because it makes them feel good. I however felt awful the next morning! Part of our new lifestyle is learning to resist and be in control of what we choose to eat. Don't be so hard on yourself, if this were easy we wouldn't need the surgery. After we will have a powerful new tool. And resisting food when you are not hungry and motivated by weight loss will be much easier!
  2. So ready for the sleeve and the results! Not so ready for the pre-op liquid diet! LOL! I moved my date up 1 day to the 12th.
  3. So excited! My passport came today! I also just attended the funeral of a friend who lost her battle with cancer and I realize that life is just too short to spend it overweight and unhappy. I've really enjoyed reading in this forum and getting all the positive motivation. Anyone else going to se Dr. Kelly on the 13th?
  4. I'm going to be sleeved on 7/13/11 in Tijuana Mexico by Dr. Kelly. Whoot! Can't wait to be done and back home.
  5. Congrats! Looking forward to hearing your progress! I'm going on 7/13 to Dr. Kelly in Mexico.
  6. Wow.. I love your list! So many things on there are on mine! Do yoga correctly, cross my legs, stop shopping at Lane Bryant because the clothes aren't very good quality and I've been mad at them since they changed their jean sizing to" 1 2 3 triangle" or whatever! I wear a swimsuit but it's really humiliating right now. Wrapping a normal size towel would be great instead of hunting down a "bath sheet". One thing I would add to my list is to ride a horse! I used to do that some as a kid and I haven't been able to as an adult for pity of the animal that would have to carry me. Riding a horse in the wine country.. now that sounds like fun!
  7. Thanks apple-saucy! I have had a C-section and a Hysterectomy and an ovarian cyst removal so experienced with abdominal surgery and really hoping this one will be a breeze!
  8. Lifetime Fitness is amazing! They have a ton of classes including my favorite...kickboxing! Not sure if you have kids but the kids club and pool areas are incredible. The owners have owned and operating fitness clubs since the early 80's and they have it down. All the equipment you can ask for and a beautiful locker room. At least.. that is the one in Scottsdale, AZ. Have been to some in MN not quite so plush but the gym is still a really good one especially for families.
  9. I like yoga too and wow the heat in Bikram is hard to deal with but WOW! It feels so good when you walk out of that room! I am also hoping I can make that part of my routine. Let us know what the doc says.
  10. Yikes! This post freaked me out! It sounds like my hysterectomy experience and I thought this would be much easier. It looks as if it's written by a man, I would love a female perspective on if the pain was all that bad.
  11. Hi Ladies! I'm looking for some feedback on the comparison between having a hysterectomy and doing the VST. Once I read that VST was a breeze compared to the hysterectomy but then I read another's post that freaked me out. I had a hysterectomy a few years ago and when I woke up from that the pain was so bad I couldn't speak and what saved me was my husband sitting next to me telling me to push that morphine button every 10 min! I'm having surgery out of country with Dr. Kelly next month and for child care reasons I will likely be alone and now wondering if I can handle it! But.. I so want this so I'm doing it. Just hoping for some frank and real info on the comparison if you have experienced both. Thanks!
  12. Try almond butter.. it's better for you anyway.
  13. Need a sleeve sister! I'm going to see Dr. Kelly on 7/13 and would love to know if anyone out there will be there the same week!
  14. I'm going to try this! My mom used to make something called "Protein Balls" that were 1 cup peanut butter, 1 cup honey, 1 cup oats, 1 cup protein powder, 1/2 cup wheat germ, 1/2 cup sesame seeds. Then she would roll them into little balls and then in coconut. Yum! You can also substitute almond butter and make it healthier.
  15. Congratulations for losing weight! People find it so easy to judge but until you have walked around for years with a bunch of extra weight, trying everything else to get if off.. they don't have a right to judge. I will be thrilled in a one piece swim suit but curious, what are the scars like? My husband had six little scars after lap band but they are pretty much invisible now... 4 years later.
  16. Hi GA Girl... I'm going to have surgery with Dr. Kelly on 7/13. I might have to go alone unless I figure out what to do with my young son between now and then. Let me know when you get scheduled. If you end up going after me I'll tell you how it was but would love to have you there at the same time!
  17. You must have the best girlfriends that they would do this with you for a week! Wow! I"ll be doing the liquid diet for a week too. I start on 7/6 so I'll look forward to posting with you during that week! In my head I keep telling myself that I'll be just fine once I get thru the pre/op and surgery and come home. I'm no good with people poking at me in the hospital but once I'm free to just recover I do so fairly well. At least that has been the case with my past (non WLS related) surgeries. Let's try to focus on how sticking to the pre-op diet is just going to make us lose weight faster and recover quicker. I can't believe how many people I've seen on here that have lost 30lbs or so in 4-6 weeks! I hope I'm that lucky!!!
  18. Hi there... I'm having my done on 7/13 provided I get my passport in time ! I am so excited I can hardly focus on anything else! But, I am a little worried too and I think that is natural before having any type of surgery. I've had a few abdominal surgeries for other things (not WLS related) and my experience is that if I can just get on the other side of surgery then the stress goes away. Even though there are after affects like tenderness and a restricted eating plan they are small challenges and much easier to deal with once you experience the relief of having surgery behind you. Hugging your children is never a bad thing because WLS journey aside we never know how much time anyone has on earth. I just keep telling my son, I'm going to be such a better mommy!
  19. 33lbs in just 3 weeks??? Wow! That is fantastic! How are you doing with the post op diet? I'm just discussing with my husband that I'm not supposed to eat for 3 days prior surgery and then the post op plan and it seems it will be 1 month without solid food! I too have the mental hunger problem, would love to hear how the sleeve has helped with that or if you are doing something else that is. Keep posting.. would love to follow your progress. I'm scheduled for mid July.
  20. Yikes! I haven't heard of that yet but I am still pre-op. I hope you feel better soon!
  21. Hi Everyone, Thank you for all your posts and comments on this forum, it has been very educational to read about everyone's experiences! I am scheduled for the gastric sleeve surgery in July 2011 and I am so excited! I have tried everything to lose weight for the past 15+ years and it's like my body is totally fighting me so I'm looking forward to this new tool. My husband had the lapband in 2007 and has lost over 100lbs and is still looking and doing great. I can't wait to join him on this journery except I'll be getting the sleeve. I'm trying to decide between Dr. Kelly and Dr. Mario Almanza so any additional info or comments on that would be helpful. Plus any tips on what to bring or plan for pre/post op would be great!
  22. My husband had a lap band in 2007 and it took about 2 years but he lost about 100lbs. Then we waited another year before we told anyone and still his parents do not know. He didn't want the nay sayers and of course there have been a few .. "he could still gain it back" comments. He hasn't gained any of it back or regretted his decision. I am about to get the sleeve next month and am going to try like heck not to tell anyone but it's really hard not to share what is going on in your life with family and friends. I figure I will tell them after I lose the weight.
  23. Ooh.. that is good news! A few months after I had my hysterectomy my husband brought up the idea of us getting lap bands and I said .. you first! Mostly because I was not ready to endure any more surgery that soon after the hysterectomy and a c-section just 18months before. However, it has been with very mixed emotions I have watched him lose over 100lbs since his lap band was put in. I'm very happy for him but since the economy issues and the refusal of my insurance company to pay for my surgery I have not been able to follow him to his new thin and happy world. I am so excited there is an opportunity to do it less expensively and I'm just searching for the right surgeon so I can book my appt and get started!
