KellyL got a reaction from finaly4me in Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp With Creole Mustard
I posted this in another thread about meat/protein and thought I would put it here too for others looking for a yummy easy recipe!!
I love bacon wrapped shrimp, it's so easy to do on the George Foreman Grill cuz the shrimp is already cooked, so it just takes a few mins on the grill to heat and cook the bacon, and I can cook just a few at a time. It doesn't take many to fill me up! I dip it in this creole mustard recipe I got out of a magazine. I modified it and use greek yogurt for the sour cream, and the splenda/brown sugar mix instead of just brown sugar. And onion powder for the minced onion. I cut the bacon into 3 pieces instead of just 2. Here is the original recipe then I made my own modifications:
    Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp With Creole Mustard
Prep time; 20 mins. (it's way less time if you use the already peeled deveined and cooked shrimp in the bags)
    Total time; 35 mins.
    Servings; 8
1/2 c. whole grain Dijon mustard
    1/4 c. sour cream
    1 tpsp. minced red onion
    1 tpsp. packed brown sugar
    1/2 tsp.worcestershire sauce
    1/4 tsp. tabasco
    24 large shrimp,peeled & deveined(about 1 lb.)
    1/2 tsp. dried thyme
    12 slices bacon,halved crosswise
    wooden toothpicks
    CREOLE SAUCE.............
In small bowl, combine mustard, sour cream, onion, sugar, worcestershire sauce and tabasco sauce; cover and refrigerate. Sprinkle shrimp with thyme. Wrap 1 half slice bacon around each shrimp with thyme; secure with toothpick.
Heat large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add shrimp; cook tumbling once, until shrimp are cooked through and bacon is crisp, 5 to 6 minutes per side. Remove toothpicks; arrange on platter. Serve warm with sauce.

I've seen a few too, and I do get irritated, but mostly I pity them. Their lives must be pretty miserable to have to come on a msg board for support and spread their toxic poison. I am trying to learn to ignore them.

Dont let people like that bring you down, somebody in my family told me I was lazy because I got sleeved. I dont think working almost 50 hours a week and working out 4 to 5 times a week qualifies for being lazy. Some people are ignorant or just dont have enough facts before they decide to speak. Im sorry you lost a friend, maybe one day that person will realize the mistake she made by wrongly judging you.

I know how you feel, this was also my best NSV. I am going for my 3rd A1C test at the end of this month, I will be 9 months out. I am less than 10 lbs from my goal weight. My A1C number has been 5.5 or below at my last test and my blood sugar normal since after surgery. My Doctor tells me that once a diabetic, always a diabetic, I do not agree with him. Even though I take no medication and have substained my numbers for over 8 months, he still considers me diabetic but " controlled by diet".
I feel I was a diabetic because of my lifestyle choices. I ate very unhealthy, I WAS obese, I did not exercise so that is what put me in that position. I take full responsibility for that condition. Once I made my decision to have the surgery and change my lifestyle, I am a new person and in no way do I consider myself a diabetic.
I know you are on cloud nine, I remember my first follow up appointment when I had normal blood sugar. The surgery has already proved a huge success for you. Congratulations to you.

I wasn't much of a cook before surgery, nor am I post-op either really lol. But I do love to experiment with different meats and ways to cook it. I use the CrockPot a lot, I love the way the chicken or whatever comes out so tender and moist. I also use the George Foreman Grill for more spontaneous Protein meals if I didn't put something in the CrockPot. Everyone is completely right, keeping it moist is totally the key. I too use Plain Greek yogurt as a base for a lot of dressings/dips for dipping.
I LOVE smoked chicken! So I pick up a half or whole smoked chicken and it lasts for a lot of meals. I like to dip it in the white sauce that's popular here in the south. I think it's basically mayo, vinegar, lemon juice, pepper and sweetener, which is probably sugar in the restaurants or commercial in the store, but you could make your own and use a little stevia. I really want to get an electric indoor smoker, not sure when I'll do that. But as much meat as I now eat, I think it would be totally worth it!
I love the idea of putting the ground beef in the blender, because burger meat is one thing even now, kinda grosses me out. I think it's the texture and bulkiness. Blending it to taco bell consistency sounds much better! I also use the frozen meatballs a lot. I like to heat them up in spaghetti sauce, then melt shredded mozzarella cheese on top then sprinkle with Parmesan Cheese. It only takes a few, but the ones I get, 6 meatballs are suppose to be 3 oz. I still can't eat that many though. I don't even miss the Pasta part of it! I'll take cheese over pasta any day! hehe

I just got back from MX . I was sleeved by Dr. Kelly on Feb 4th. I have had no complications and am doing wonderful. I am up and about and feeling great. He was amazing. He was available and visited when I was at the hospital and then visited me at my hotel. He is a very caring and dedicated surgeon. The reason I chose him in the first place is that I noticed that is seemed to me from this board that his patients seem to recover very nicely, also he has a lot of experience.
I do believe he is going through some changes and everyone is not going to like everybody all the time but I have to say, I felt geniune concern from him and he made sure I was comfortable. I also had a sleeve sister and he treated her with the same care.
On an added note, without going into detail, the night before I left he went out of his way to make sure that I was leaving MX prepared. He did not have to do that. I am forever indebted! I recommend him highly.
P.S. I refer to my sleeve as my kelly belly... I know i sound like an advertisement all the sudden but I am not . I am a real person with a great , real experience.

I think an important part of this journey is learning to ignore others opinions of us and simply learning to love ourselves for who we are. Make sure you are doing all this for YOU because really that's the only human life in this world that you have the real power to do anything with.

You could try increasing the Protein and fluids. I see a lot of the successful people saying they take in 80-100 grams of protein and 100 oz of water/fluid. It's difficult for me to get in that amt of Fluid, but I shoot for as close as I can get. I can totally understand and relate to getting down and being jealous of those who've had Gastric Bypass seeming to lose faster. But my bro-in-law who had his Gastric Bypass a wk before my Sleeve has already been to the ER, in the hospital, with dehydration, kidney stones due to the fast weight loss, and now he's having to have some other tests done. I am still very happy I chose the Sleeve over the Gastric Bypass. Hang in there, and try not to compare yourself to anyone, this is YOUR journey, make the most of it.

Our flight was layed over in Houston so we did not get home and in bed until 3am but all is well. I will write more later this afternoon, time for a nap...lol. I am so happy and most of all very thankful for all the prayers!!!!!

One thing, the entire experience was much better than I would of ever expected, it was awesome.

Bougie is a tool the surgeon uses to help guide the tool as he's sizing your sleeve. DS is Duodenal Switch and is a weight loss surgery that has the sleeve that we have plus the malabsorption similar to the Gastric Bypass. There's some differences between those two surgeries, but that's the simple answer to your question.

I was sleeved by Dr Kelly 12/28/11 and had a great experience. No pain, no nausea. Excellent care. I used Florence Hospital and stayed at the Lucerna hotel after.
I think the issue is with the coordinators. I'm sure they don't like the fact that he is scheduling his own surgeries and taking money out of their pockets!
I think it is sad that his reputation is being questioned.

Right, smKeller HAS cut down every MX surgeon, except for the one he went to, who has also had a death in his past. And if ALM has cut their ties with Dr Kelly, why is he still on all their websites? That's because they WANT people to think he's affiliated with these other surgeons who weren't even bariatric surgeons a yr ago. They are using Dr Kelly on their websites to get interest and draw people to them and then getting patients on the phone to schedule their surgeries, and then pulling the old switcheroo. We can't in good conscious book you with Dr Kelly because he had a questionable death a half a yr ago, but we've been booking for him with good conscious all these months, but we suddenly have a conscious. They are stealing Dr Kelly's patients and giving them to other inexperienced surgeons by using lies and scare tactics, because they know people will trust them over the surgeons, because they're patient coordinators/advocates. It's pathetic, unprofessional, and unethical.
Here's the website I just went to a few sec's ago. There's Dr Kelly right under Dr Garcia!

And here's an article in May of 2011 where ALM is adding 3 new new surgeons. The article is dated May 2011 and Dr Garcia was still studying to be a bariatric surgeon!!! This is from that article.......

As a surgeon, how would you feel if you found out that your patient coordinators were stabbing you in the back, telling potential patients they weren't booking for you any more and using your good reputation and giving your potential patients away?

Right, ALM didn't mind continuing to book for Dr Kelly long after the incident in June that everyone is now bringing back up again. Suddenly they can't in good conscious refer potential patients to Dr Kelly. They were more than happy to endorse him as long as it benefited them in some way. They were happy to try to associate their current Dr with Dr Kelly by saying he was trained under him, which he wasn't. They were happy to let people think Dr Kelly and this other Dr was associated together as a team, which they were not. They were happy to use Dr Kellys name with other Dr until they got this Dr's name out on these forums and build up a clientele, anyone who's been around these boards any length of time knows that Dr Garcia just showed up on these boards a few months ago. I'm not saying anything bad about him, because I know nothing about him other than the fact that I've been on these weight loss surgery boards for 7 yrs and I am just now seeing his name. So if it were me personally, no I wouldn't use a Dr that just appeared on the scene. I wouldn't know if that meant that he had just started doing the VSG or what. It would make me think that is the case, and I preferred someone with a lot of experience. Dr Kelly still has an extremely good complication rate for the number of procedures that he has performed, and drudging up incidents from the past to continue to try discredit a Surgeon, or his patient coordinator is ridiculous. I had hoped now that ALM isn't working with Dr Kelly that the drama and BS would die down and we wouldn't have to see folks like GOTTAGO posting this kind of nonsense on the board. Speaking of, I encourage anyone that is in research mode of these Dr's to please look at the content of members such as GOTTAGO and you will find that all their posts are either discrediting Dr Kelly or promoting ALM. They aren't here to seek or offer support for anyone on their weight loss journey. It's apparent they are working for ALM or the surgeon or hospital he uses. Go to GOTTAGO's profile, click on content, and you'll see what I mean. Don't take anyone else's word on anything, not even mine. Do your own research. If you don't feel comfortable with Dr Kelly for whatever reason, then by all means DON'T have surgery with him. But why try to manipulate other people and their decision unless you have some kind of ulterior motive. Why spend all your time trying to talk people out of a surgeon. Let's hear about who you ended up choosing and what YOUR EXPERIENCE with a different Dr is, that is what we are all suppose to be doing.
