KellyL got a reaction from celiason in Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp With Creole Mustard
I posted this in another thread about meat/protein and thought I would put it here too for others looking for a yummy easy recipe!!
I love bacon wrapped shrimp, it's so easy to do on the George Foreman Grill cuz the shrimp is already cooked, so it just takes a few mins on the grill to heat and cook the bacon, and I can cook just a few at a time. It doesn't take many to fill me up! I dip it in this creole mustard recipe I got out of a magazine. I modified it and use greek yogurt for the sour cream, and the splenda/brown sugar mix instead of just brown sugar. And onion powder for the minced onion. I cut the bacon into 3 pieces instead of just 2. Here is the original recipe then I made my own modifications:
    Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp With Creole Mustard
Prep time; 20 mins. (it's way less time if you use the already peeled deveined and cooked shrimp in the bags)
    Total time; 35 mins.
    Servings; 8
1/2 c. whole grain Dijon mustard
    1/4 c. sour cream
    1 tpsp. minced red onion
    1 tpsp. packed brown sugar
    1/2 tsp.worcestershire sauce
    1/4 tsp. tabasco
    24 large shrimp,peeled & deveined(about 1 lb.)
    1/2 tsp. dried thyme
    12 slices bacon,halved crosswise
    wooden toothpicks
    CREOLE SAUCE.............
In small bowl, combine mustard, sour cream, onion, sugar, worcestershire sauce and tabasco sauce; cover and refrigerate. Sprinkle shrimp with thyme. Wrap 1 half slice bacon around each shrimp with thyme; secure with toothpick.
Heat large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add shrimp; cook tumbling once, until shrimp are cooked through and bacon is crisp, 5 to 6 minutes per side. Remove toothpicks; arrange on platter. Serve warm with sauce.

I love the buffalo chicken too, I use chicken (sometimes chicken breasts, rotisserie chicken, or sometimes canned) and add the hot sauce/wing sauce, plain greek yogurt, and a little bleu cheese dressing.
I also love rotisserie chicken or smoked chicken with hidden valley ranch dip mix made with greek yogurt or the hidden valley ranch fiesta dip mix.

We all have off days sweetie, please be kind to yourself and realize you are only human. For the most part we stick to plan, but very few of us can say we haven't on occasion made a not so great food choice. It's going to be OK. Love yourself no matter what you do!

Also, try Lundberg Rice chips. (In the natural chips aisle.) The sea salt flavor taste just like corn tortilla chips. The santa Fe BBQ ones are great too and they are my fave. We used to eat tons of chips, and now we only eat these. They are soo good. Much better than Beanitos in my opinion.

Hey and welcome back!! Kudos to you for making sure you are completely ready for this life-changing surgery and new lifestyle. Even if it meant postponing it for a while. So many people rush in, not being fully ready mentally, emotionally, etc. I am not going to say there still won't be struggles, but waiting til you felt more comfortable is important for you. Good luck on your journey and congrats on your new surgery date!!

I had a great experience with Dr Kelly and have recommended him to my family. My doctor here has taken Dr Kelly's info to give to both her family and her patients, she is so impressed with his skills, price, and my results. Here is the link where Dr Kelly was initiated and recently became a member of the prestigious American College of Surgeons:

I made these cute little muffin sized cheese cakes. Here's the link for the receipe I used. I couldn't find the almond mill so I used walnuts for the "crust". I was able to make 12 regular sized muffins and 3 large muffin size cakes with this receipe. I haven't calculated the exact calories but, I'm guessing about 350. So, only for special occasions. I will freeze the rest.

I paid $5500 in MX, which covered all testing, meds, post-op leak tests and a very nice hotel stay the 3rd and 4th day after being released from the hospital. I have NEVER had better or care or an easier recovery. We absolutely have to feel comfortable about our choice in location and Surgeon. It's not just about where the surgery is performed, or how much the cost, but how many Sleeves the surgeon has done and how much experience, and complication rates. Good luck on your weight loss journey!!

You will be able to eat a little more when you get a little further out and the swelling goes down inside your sleeve. You have to try different types of Protein, if for instance chicken doesn't work for you right now, then try something different like a soft scrambled egg or cottage cheese. String cheese is tasty and handy to keep with you.
It would be a good idea though to try to form good eating habits now, and make healthier food choices.
The person above made a good point about orange juice being acidic, and it's very true. Most of us have an acid problem, at least early out, so it may be best to switch from orange juice to Protein Shakes? It takes a while to adjust, and it can be difficult if you have some intolerance's to some foods, but give it a little more time. Focus on fluids and softer food. The dryer the meat, the more difficult to tolerate, so try to use dips of some type. I like to mix plain greek yogurt with hidden valley ranch dip mix or any others. But you can use other dips or dressings.< /p>

Early out, it's not unusual for people to eat a little runny mashed potato or refried Beans because they go down easy. But then we transition to more Proteins as we can tolerate them, because we really need to get the Protein in, and with our small capacities it's important to eat Protein first if/when possible. There's just not a lot of room to eat more.
As far as getting back on track, you just have to really make sure you try to keep only things you need to have around you and get rid of all the junk. You have to resolve to do what is necessary. When I feel weak and want something, I ask myself which I want more, to continue losing weight and becoming healthy, or eating something that will sabotage my weightloss. I try not to make anything completely off limits, because it just makes me want it more, but I only let myself have a bite or two rarely and then I am ok. I try to keep a lot of choices such as Protein shakes, Protein Bars, cottage cheese, string cheese, almonds, pecans, pistachios, etc around. I change things up if I get bored and try out low carb recipes. The biggest thing that keeps me on track is because I don't want to have gone thru the whole process of getting weight loss surgery and not giving it a 100% chance to work for me.
P.S. In your case you are only a wk out so that really limits your choices, but at this point it is the most important time to follow your post-op diet because of your new staple line. You don't want to cause yourself unnecessary complications.

Yesterday my family and I went to a local restaurant after church. This restaurant is known for LARGE portions and is always packed. My wife, who had a roux n y, ordered stir fry and I got meat loaf and mashed potatoes. When we were done eating it was difficult to tell if we had eaten anything. Our meals were destined for the take home boxes to be slowly devoured over the next week or until they go bad.
I looked around at the mountainous plates being delivered to other patrons and it astounded me that I had eaten like that. I had always pictured being weak eating the small portions that I do now. It just is not so. All the large meals did were keep me fat. I did not eat to provide energy and sustain life. I ate to satisfy an inordinate love of eating. I still love to eat but the volume is not of supreme importance.
