Please Read And Help!
I think maybe I'd find a new doctor / surgeon.. and call a lawyer. Sounds to me like there were mistakes done in your care. I think it is extremely clumsy that they punctured your lung doing a routine procedure - that just doesn't sit right with me, and I'd run far away from that hospital - can you share which hospital - so I know never to go there? I really hope you get past this and will be praying for you, my wife had a similar situation with a kidney stone - it was one of the smallest the doctor ever saw, yet almost killed her when she got septic and because of her septicemia she still feels sluggish and fatigued two years later. I read that trauma to your system like that can cause issues like Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia.. so be careful, and hang in there.

Pre-Op Testing Today: Slightly Over 2 Weeks Till Surgery - It's Gettin' Real.
Well, I could just see - if you're flying home after surgery or not going to have 'aftercare' as is the case w/ the Mexican surgeries, that they would probably just remove it. I'm sure all doctors are different though.. I also am getting 2 fun-filled weeks of Lovenox injections yay! Don't know if all doctors give that either.

I think it's to ensure that there are no leaks. Were you done locally, or away from home(e.g. Mexico)?

Pre-Op Testing Today: Slightly Over 2 Weeks Till Surgery - It's Gettin' Real.
Okay so here is what happened today: I went to preop testing. I got poked in the arm. Then I got an EKG. Then I got an ultrasound(hurt more than the poking they really pressed hard against my rib cage which is kinda tender). Then I got a chest x-ray. Then went to lunch for an hour. After lunch I went to a Seminar and talked to a Lady who went over the whole surgery process, what it entails, what we can/can't eat before/after surgery, etc. After the seminar there are a handful of things that freak me out: 1. I'm very squeamish and we will have a little bulb or drain attached to us that will catch any leaks, or other fluids - we will wear this for 3-4 weeks till our first post-op consult with the doctor. 2. Catheter, she showed a dummy with a catheter attached and I felt sick, seriously. I'm not too concerned about it going in she said 'don't worry, you'll be knocked out' to which I then said, yeah but not when you yank it out...that's when it hurts. 3. Blood clots still freak me out and worry me. I definitely don't wanna go through all this to die from a blood clot. 4. It's just really getting real...lol Gettin' nervous my surgery is two weeks from Monday! Yikes! So after the seminar we went upstairs and walked around the surgery floor. It's pretty long and we have to do 10 laps a day..carrying all the damn wires attached - that's gonna be fun lol... After the hospital my wife and I went walking at the Arboretum it was fun, and as a bonus they have benches every 50 feet so when my back hurts I can easily find a spot to sit down -this is my new favorite place to workout at ... I didn't eat all that healthy today, I had a slice of pizza on wheat crust + turkey pepperoni at the hospital which was pretty good but healthier than normal pizza, but probably still not ideal. I also had a Muscle Milk w/ lunch for added Protein. dinner was a Gyro without the pita, and half of a rootbeer float (split it w/ my wife). The good thing is I'm like 300 calories under goal because of my exercise! Carbs are probably pretty high though, but, oh well.. I think I will reach my goal of losing 40 - 50 pounds by my surgery. I've already lost 20, just need 20-30 more - hopefully 30. I'm pretty excited about everything, though more nervous than I was, but all in all I had a pretty good day!

Yeah except ladyivy dashed those hopes, my only chance is if I got like 6 or 7 inches hiding away in there lol then I might hit 13. Maybe happy sticks are like pyramids and only a third us showing. Now once we excavate, you get the great pyramid at Giza, lol -a guy can dream right? If it works I'm gonna write one of those penis enlargement books, sell my secret for $20 a pop. The book will have one sentence: lose 300 pounds. Lol- This May Be Inappropriate, Forgive Me :)
Re "keep it up" um that's whet she said... I so had to say that lol- Holy Crap...
I read that soy milk has estrogen in that can hold on to fat, one glass a day is good, but I'd mix it up a bit - I bought this delicious almond milk - it's called "So Delicious - Almond Milk Plus" it has added protein as a bonus - like 5 grams of protein, so will help get that extra protein in, and it only has 1 grams of carbs, and 40 calories, and 2 grams of fat, very low sodium too. Gives my choco-coconut protein powder mix a nice nutty flavor.- Just Starting (Part 2)
Thanks for sharing why you're doing this. This is going to be the best decision of our lives, I'm certain about it. I've already lost 20 pounds pre-op in the past 2 weeks (my surgery is July 2nd) - trying to jumpstart my surgery success. I'm excited to see where I am in a year . Doing it all by myself just isn't a reality though cause I love food too much and will eventually fall off the train. Surgery is really the only thing I think that will help me reach my goal. Good luck in your process, let me know if there's anything I can do for ya!- How To Have A "good" Food Funeral - Guilt-Free!
Great insites Emily.. definitely sounds like the life I want to live - first I got to get there, and I want to work as hard as I possibly can personally to speed up everything cause I'm impatient which means working extra hard at the gym, and not eating any of my fave food or very little of it anyways. I have a LOT to lose I want to lose at least 200 pounds in the next year.. 300 would be better but seems a little daunting - I think it could be done if I really push at the gym. Once I lose the weight the sleeve will help me keep it off while I enjoy all my faves. Frankly I'd be ok with weighing 300 pounds again. At 650 that would be a huge improvement.- How To Have A "good" Food Funeral - Guilt-Free!
That's awesome that you're already learning how to live post-sleeve. My biggest worry was not being able to stick to the preop diet the first few weeks and hurting myself which is why I'm being very careful now - so that I know for a certainty I can do it, and I think I can - plus every pound I lose now, brings down my chances of complications.- How To Have A "good" Food Funeral - Guilt-Free!
Yeah, but cutting out soda can't hurt... and I'm certain drinking more water is definitely a 'better' choice in most cases.. but that kinda got off on a tangent lol .. my point was that - I think you can do food funerals of you also practice control - cause that's what this whole process is about -learning self-control.- How To Have A "good" Food Funeral - Guilt-Free!
My mom is super healthy too and she smokes cigarettes, does that mean she won't ever catch lung cancer? probably not.. because one person you know who drinks or does something is healthy now, does not mean it's still good for you to do it. Just sayin'.- How To Have A "good" Food Funeral - Guilt-Free!
Well from a stand-point of changing your life, I don't see any 'health' value to soda at all. There is no reason to drink it and it DOES have negative effects: 1: The acid and phosporous in sodium leech Calcium from bones, teeth, etc. 2. Stains teeth. 3. Have you seen what soda can do to a penny if you leave it in long enough? my point is that there are a lot of better choices out there, and I personally feel soda should be avoided from here on out, it's a personal choice - but the dr will also recommend no soda following surgery - mine doesn't want me drinking it 10 days before either.. so there's gotta be a good reason for that.- Whats Better Sleeve Or Ru En Y?
imho sleeve is better -because when I'm 60 or 70 I'm going to probably need to take a lot of medicine (don't all elderly people? hehe no offense to the youth challenged in here) but seriously- with RNY you don't absorb medicine correctly which means dosing you is going to be difficult - the doctor is going to try different doses and he could end up killing you with a lethal dose, or putting you in the hospital because your absorption rate isn't normal, or under-dose you and you end up in the hospital because the medicine isn't working as intended... I'm thinking about my long-term health. The sleeve also doesn't have dumping and frankly I do not want to swear off my favorite foods for life, instead just till I reach goal. Also, I'm 650 so the sleeve is safer for me than rny as well. Also the sleeve won't stretch like the bypass does. I've also read a lot of cases where the sleeve has actually been better in the long-run than the bypass -and a lot of bypass patients who've gained back a lot of weight. Ultimately though it is a personal choice on how you want to live your life, and the malnourishment/absorption of vitamins/medicine/etc plus never being able to eat some of my favorite foods again is just not something I am wanting to live with.- How To Have A "good" Food Funeral - Guilt-Free!
Thanks, not judging those of you who went 'hog wild' - just think that the more healthy you are the day of surgery the less likelihood of complications, and why chance it? Plus I got a lot ot lose so starting early will just get me to my finish line faster. I read that diet soda is worse than regular soda - in causing obesity: Reason : aspertame makes your body 'think' it just got sugar so it is expecting it and releases certain hormones, when it doesn't 'get the sugar' it says hey, "where's my sugar! damnit!" -- then you pig out and overeat. Pretty sure splenda doesn't have the same effect, but not many soda's sweetened with splenda. The acids/carbonation though do weaken the stomach and is just not great for ya, and who knows it could be a minor cause of complications in surgery. . I'm no doctor, but it just seems better to go under the knife in the best condition possible in the time alotted. - Hey July Sleevers!
