  1. Ask for an Rx strength anti-acid. I'm taking Protonix 40mg. The pills are really small. You have gone through a LOT. Test and recover. Keep us posted! If you're still in the hospital ask for a morphine pump. There's no reason to be in pain.
  2. If you scratch the surface, the government isn't doing this to you--insurance companies are. If we had Canada's system this couldn't happen. Is Canada socialist? My students tell me no. So why would having their health care system, with which the majority of Canadians are satisfied with, "socialist"? The whole thing is ridiculous. The "reform" that we have now have some very good parts to it, but the parts that aren't good are a direct result of lobbying and pressure from the health insurance companies and the AMA. Put the blame where it belongs. If we had a single payer system this wouldn't be happening to you.
  3. If Canada can do it, why can't we? I live near the Canadian border and teach at a university. When health care comes up: 1. My Canadian students think Americans are cold and selfish about the issue. Just because you don't approve of someone's morals doesn't mean they deserve to suffer and die. Even if they get high and have babies. They need more help, not less. 2. They also are extremely satisfied with Canadian health care, and it isn't true you have to get permission to go to the doctor, and you do choose your doctor. And the wait for elective surgeries is just a little longer than the US. Wait time is based on urgency, and doesn't apply to life threatening situations. Sicko is right on. It doesn't "support Cuba". Instead of believing Fox News watch it and make up your own mind. Every American should see Sicko.
  4. My nut said lots of people have trouble with scrambled eggs early out. I still think you should try clears, and then reintroduce the next stage--for you fulls, then mushies and see what you can tolerate. Good luck. And definitely if you have meds, take them!
  5. Go back to clears for a couple of days and then gradually re-introduce mushies, being careful not to eat too fast or too much.
  6. I haven't noticed any of this, but I'm a newbie. For the record, I don't think that stating facts and opinions is "condescending". People should be secure enough in themselves to handle different points of view. I got accused of being "high and mighty" when all I was doing was using my 15 years experience in education to give a truthful, but perhaps unpleasant point of view. People need to man up and be able to handle that there are points of view other than their own. It's a question of insecurity vs. maturity.
  7. Don't start your pre-op diet until you have your insurance approval--you don't want to lower your BMI for that paperwork--they can use a lower BMI to reject your claim. If you're self-pay you don't have to worry about it. Good luck!
  8. The flavors are great--I have about 10 of them, including Egg Nog and Kahlua! My shakes are never boring. I also got some of the fruit flavors for a change. I'll be posting more mushies recipes soon--I'm still eating the ones that are already up there lol. I was really happy with the chicken salad today--omg there is flavor in the world!
  9. Just make sure you are following your surgeon's diet to the letter and don't worry about it. It will come off.
  10. Wow-- I had no idea there was this kind of controversy around here. I'm a newbie so I guess I haven't been around long enough to see this stuff.
  11. Susan Bordo's "Unbearable Weight" is a good nonfiction read about the subject.
  12. Just to clarify--I wasn't testing my pouch--it's just that the size became obvious since I was using a measured 4 oz portion. I feel like I can't interpret what true hunger is yet.
  13. You're doing fine. I can eat 1/2 cup mushies--it doesn't matter! Just move on and follow your doctor's diet. You'll be fine.
  14. I've got a page on mushies on my blog: Gastric Sleeve Foodie: Week 2 post op- Quick Puree/Mushies
  15. My doc said don't put anything on them till the scabs fall off.
  16. I was told to start chewable and siblingual supplements on Day 3 post-op.
  17. I've got more mushy ideas on my blog: Gastric Sleeve Foodie: Week 2 post op- Quick Puree/Mushies
  18. Anything they can do you can do at home better and probably with less calories!
  19. It's day 2 of mushies, and I found out what my pouch will hold. I had bought 4 oz. ramekins pre-op. I filled one with refried Beans and put a little cheese on top to melt in the microwave. I could eat 3.5 oz of it, but weirdly I feel physically pouch- full yet hungry at the same time. It's not the kind of hunger where you must eat something, but lower than my pouch, more like in my intestines--ok I just admitted I am a freak lol! Does anyone else have this?
  20. You should be on mushies by now--throw some of those fresh tomatoes in the blender with onion, cilantro, and avocado!
  21. It depends in the doctor. I was giveb 3 days clear, 10 days full liquids, the two weeks mushies, the 2 weeks soft solids and then 2 weeks solids.
  22. I googled to find the research, you could do that to find it. I don't remember the specific medical journals, but like I said if you google "vertical sleeve gastrectomy weight regain" you will find it. I think it has to do with increased stomach size/capacity at that point, from what I remember. Since people are less restricted, they start to eat more. The same thing happens to RNYers. With time, the sleeve can stretch, even though it is the least stretchy part of the stomach.
  23. Well, I think we can say your surgeon was irresponsible, but your main concern is your weight gain--well DUH stop eating sweets and whatever you want to! Get on a diet. You aren't restricted. Your stomach will stretch. Normal sleeve procedure is to remove 80% or more of your stomach, leaving the relatively un-stretchy part. You are more like a regular person than a sleever, and there was no point to having your surgery. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but it's the truth. Just get on an Atkins-type diet and start exercising. You aren't sleeved, you just have a small stomach which can and will stretch.
