Disappointment has set in

Recommended Posts

I am 3 weeks out from the sleeve. I have lost a total of 6 pounds. I am so disappointed!. I am eating 6-700 calories. Getting 65 of Protein and carbs around 50. I wonder if I even had the procedure the way the weight is not coming off. Please help me.

Chin up! I'm not a scientist so I don't know why your weight loss is slow at the moment other than guessing that maybe your body is still in 'shock' and hanging on to everything you put into it. My loss is slow despite the fact that I am also eating very little, in fact it's up and down 3lbs or so day to day, but I'm trying not to worry about it. I am sure that there will be more knowledgeable people on here later who can put your mind at ease and I am sure that your weight will come off so try not to get too stressed about it.

Love Helenxxx

How much have you lost since the 13th? I will keep my chin up. It does get you down when the scale just hangs at that 200 mark and will not move. 6# is not much. Thank you for the reply and good luck to you also.

Are you able to exercise? Are you exercising? That is what really kicked my loss into high gear. I am 2.5 weeks out and have only lost 10lbs. It came off much faster when I exercised.

I had my carbs much lower during my post op diet. I am not sure if that would help.

I have lost 12lbs since the 13th but am finding that it's not moving much now that I am on crispy/mushy diet despite the fact my portions are miniscule. I had a band for two years and found that there were times when I lost very little and then it would suddenly fall off. I am sure you are already doing it so don't think I'm being patronising but if you're having a lot of Protein Shakes check the calories in those plus the milk if you're mixing them with that. And moving about is another good point as I have been very inactive for the last month as I had abdominal surgery at the same time and have taken a long time to recover. You may find that once you are running around more that it will affect your loss as well. Try not to get too worried about it all as I am sure that you will get going eventually xxx

I would say do the following:

-up the Protein. On a very low calorie diet (anything under 1000-1200), you need more Protein than average to help prevent muscle loss

-get as much Water as you can -- it helps flush out the waste products of fat burning

-exercise - it helps everything about you

-have faith - if you are eating that little, the weight is coming off even if the scale isn't showing it

What should I keep the calories at and Protein at on the average? I try not to go above 700 calories. But I usually am in the high 60's for protein.

Normal women on a normal diet are supposed to get 55-65. So we need more. My program recommends 70-90 g a day. If you are very active, you need more!

Deep breath grasshopper:001_tongue: Look at this as an opportunity...do you have a doctor or nutritionist you could work with? Are you positive on the intake calories, protien etc or are you guessing. Through my various attempts to lose weight, I learned that what I thought I was eating and what I was actually eating were very different (had to be honest with myself). Please note here, I don't want this to come across mean or harsh...email/posting can do that sometimes:tongue_smilie: I really didn't plan my meals so, I ate "on the fly". Once I started being present and consious about what I was eating, there were a lot more calories and I wasn't drinking Water...

Did you lose any weight the first week? I would think because of the limitation and intake you would lose more than 6lbs. I think your carb intake may be to high as well. You will burn the carbs in your system before any fat or muscle. The opportunity is to discover what you may be doing and then "change" the direction....

It will work...just have to find out what you need to make this tool work for you and part of our journey....once you do...share it with us! Your experience will help all of us....

:lol0:

scale is still at stand still 2 weeks out now. I monitor all I eat. Today Calories were 5428, Carbs 32, Fat 22, and Protein was a bit low today 52. I am having trouble with Constipation but this is unreal. I have lost 10# as of today since my surgery. Thanks for you help. I use MyFitnessPal.com which is wonderful.

Hi, everyone's body is different. Are you writing down EVERYTHING that you are eating--you might be surprised at what you are really eating when it comes to carbs. It sounds like you are having too many Carbs to me. You should be eating around 800 calories a day. And you are eating less calories, so your body thinks you are trying to starve it, so it is holding onto the fat so it will survive. Add more calories and try walking a little and see if that doesn't make a difference. I hope that helps you some.

This is a myth, btw.

quick question...is it a type in your previous email that you are eating 5428 calories a day? If not, that may be the issue, I'm not sure but I would think you should only be taking in 2000 or less due to change in stomach size....

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
