SouthernSleever got a reaction from acummins73 in What does dumping syndrome feel like with the sleeve?
If I eat too fast or too much I get sliming. IF I eat too many sweets, like I had 1/2 a piece of rich pecan pie last Holiday, I suddenly feel very tired and sick. My heart races and I feel like I need to lay down. I actually went to sleep on the table at the Waffle house after that pie.

I read an article from a Doctor about why stalls happen. I'd assume (you know, it makes me an ass) that if we all up our Water intake and that would move things along a bit. Anyway the jist of what he said was that the body has about 8 liters of Water on reserve. When we don't drink enough fluids the body uses these reserves over a week or so. You will see weight drop fast then because your body is dropping pounds but not storing water. Once your reserves are low your body will start holding onto water so while it builds up the liters of water you may still be droping pounds of fat but it will not be reflected on the scale because the water. That makes sense to me and also accounts for the sometimes gains I see even though I know I can't gain on 800 calories. It also accounts for the sudden drops in weight.
Would be interested to see what would happen if we all posted our daily water intake and left everything else the same. If we even upped our water to see if it makes a difference.
On a side note I dropped a pound yesterday and I've hit my first 50 gone! WOOT!

I really think what has kept me from regaining is that I'm more active with my new body. I try lots of sports and stay busy. It also has a lot to do with the friends you surround yourself with. All of my previous friends dropped me (their choice not mine) and a lot of my new friends I've met through sports activities.

What "facts" are people looking for? I did plenty of research and found several stories of some other Drs in Mexico about complications and robberies but I never found one negative story about Aceves. I also emailed several of his previous patients including OD. I spoke with the coordinator several times, interviewed at least 10 other surgeons here in the US. I went through nursing school up until my final semester so I had been doing clinicals in hospitals in the US. Dr Aceves was everything and more I had hoped for. His staff was wonderful and the hospital cleaner than any I had ever seen. Dr A Did have someone who had complications from a blood clot but that is not necessarily the surgeon's fault. I'm 2 yrs 2 months post op. 10lbs below goal. I've never made a dime off Dr A and would pay out of pocket (as I did) before having free surgery from any other Doctor I know. That might not work for you "facts" but all we can give is experience and that's mine.

I do not monitor my food such as food journaling and I never have. I try to really listen to my body, what feels good, when am I hungry, why am I hungry? There are many reasons that I might eat more one day than the other such as monthly cycles, more activity, sickness, weather. I did join with my friend on myfitnesspal and kept track for 3 days. My calories averaged around 1600, a little more on days when I worked out, and less on days I was more sedentary. My carbs tended to be right around 100/day. I weigh everyday and if I see it bounce more than 4-5 lbs I will restrict higher carb foods.
I did not change the way I ate once I hit maintenance and I do not always eat to stuffed though it happens now and again. I find eating more of a chore than a pleasure. The food still taste great but I would rather get dinner done with and onto something else. The friends I have recently gained bring food when we are going out or we share Entrees. They do track food since they compete as athletes. It's very hard to have friends constantly going out to restaurants and you have to resist ordering something terribly bad for you.
I also must say that I started smoking (again) 8 months post op and I am still a smoker. I plan to quit again in January and I expect a 5-10lb bounce up. While I am not counting calories or logging food I do realize that I always gain over the Holidays and with my plan to quit smoking I am keeping a close eye on the scale.

I think it's probably a wrong idea to get it stuck in your head that everyone's life revolves around your WLS. He could say the same thing about the out of pocket money, if any, you paid. Having to do extra house hold chores that you can't do while you are recovering and taking care of you/kids if you are sick out. It does suck, don't get me wrong, but this is your journey.

    Hey guys,
Just wanted to share some pics, cuz we all love it when others share pics! . This is my first time sharing photos, aside from my avatar. I'm 9 months out of surgery as of yesterday, and initially, I was having my hubby take pictures every month. I kinda fell off over the summer, but finally remembered to have him snap a few this morning. I cried a little when I put the 'before' and 'after' side by side. I was self pay, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Rejoicing over here!! Woot!
p.s. not sure if I'm doing this right, so hopefully there are pictures here!

SouthernSleever reacted to frumpynomore in TUMMY TUCK TOMORROW MORNING
Just wanted to reach out and tell someone that can relate to my feelings right now that my Tummy Tuck is scheduled for tomorrow morning, Jan. 3, 2013, at 7am! I'm soooooo excited but getting nervous and anxious. I was doing o.k. until the anesthisiologist called me a minute ago. I am not at goal weight which was originally set at my personal want of 140lbs. I really don't think I can maintain 140 as the last time I was that weight was 10 years ago and prior to my open heart surgery, full hysterectomy, hypothyroidism and Hoshimoto's . I could probably get there if I tried extremely hard but I know that realistically I won't be able to maintain that weight and if I could it would be a constant struggle. I'm at 157 and my plastic surgeon believes that 150 is a more realistic and maintainable weight for me since for the past 4 months I have maintained from 153 to 157 (I'm 5'71/2"). Therefore, since I'm within 10 lbs of my goal weight my surgeon says it will be perfectly fine for the TT operation. My VSG was one year ago on Dec. 13th.
I've already ordered the silicone sheets for after the scabs have fallen off to help the scar look better. If anyone is curious or wants more info. on them go to silon.com. I bought the abdominoplasty shaped sheet that is made for TT's or C-section areas. I watched a Youtube video where a woman had a TT and used the silicon sheets and her scar came out beautifully!
    Wish me luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am very excited that I am going to be able to afford to hire a trainer for a few sessions. I am so sick of my routines and I need to learn new exercises.
I was really lucky that even though I slipped up a few times during the past few weeks during the holidays, I managed to stay the same weight that I have been for a year.
I am hoping with the trainer, I'll be able to take off some of the 10 I've gained back. So far, this last year, I've had no success at getting it to come off.

Yeah you are going to a private hospital that has security and is exceptionally clean with blood banks and ICU. Others with lower prices are in stripmalls and don't have a great rep like Dr Aceves is. My health is so worth it!

well, I've started the ball rolling... I've booked myself in to a cosmetic surgery open evening... specifically looking at TT and a boob job (not to make em bigger, but just round,..lol!) It is on the 24th Jan, so 5 weeks away. The lady I spoke to said I might be able to have both done at the same time - cutting down on time off work and cost!
Once I get specific details I will let you know - I think I will be pretty much 'done' then regardless of what the scale says!
    Hope you are all well...

I am with you 100%, Dean!!
This is my issue and my journey. The world doesn't stop revolving or eating and the simple fact is that I am the one that has to do the changing and hard work now....no one else.
My family has been amazingly supportive and all week ( I am 7 days post op) has apologized for eating in front of me...to which I have replied....please don't be silly, eat....it's supper time!!!! That is actually one of the main reasons I chose WLS....so I could handle these situations better and not have to be in a perpetual diet. It is very different right now while I am on full liquids but I know this will not last forever and then I can be back to eating like everyone else....just a lot less and a lot healthier.
We happen to be addicted to something that is my illegal, something that is all around us all the time and something that we can't give up altogether.....but this is our chance to learn how to deal with all of that. Even at the food court!!!!
