Finally, after so many years ....
The first step is recognition that you have a problem and know you need help. The next is for the family to learn how to deal with the healing and new life for all of you. I wish you the best in the new direction that your family is taking.

Cheesy enchilada stack (similar to a Mexican Pizza from Taco Bell)
O.K., officially a hit! I modified a little with taco seasoning in the hamburger/red, yellow peppers onion hamburger simmer, regular onion instead of green onions, (store didn't have them) and cheese. Layered like you said, sour cream, black olives and additional jalpeno peppers on the top for the DH and he raved!!! I wanted more but heavy and couldn't eat more than 1/8! Thanks Tiff.

Speak up those with leaks & infections!
Greenbaygirl, thank you for posting first hand what happened. I am glad you are home and hope your husband continues to heal without complications. I shudder to think what could have happened if you had not been by his side. The follow-up care was deplorable and your husband was helpless to care for himself and would have been a statistic I fear. Thank God he wasn't.

Reality Check!
I had a get away weekend recently that started with a margarita and then another and a third with some snacking and some more carb snacking and could not believe when I got home and had gained 5lbs!! I said WHAT! Surely the scale was wrong. Then I found out how many carbs and calories those nasty drinks have and it all went downhill from there. It took me all week to get those pounds off too but I definitely have to watch it. Am so glad I could get those pounds off in a week and pre-sleeve it would have been so hard to do, but must budget those calories in the future.

aquarobics
I go to the pool a lot and started with the classes and learned which exercises worked for me. Some instructors are better than others and you can actually do your own thing if you want to spot exercise. It feels so good and I push for a half hour and then go to the treadmill or bicycle for another half hour. Seems the more weight I lose the more my back and neck need attention and the pool execises seem to strengthen my core muscles. Works for me.

Kicking my PPI - Day 7...

CPAP,blah.
There is a learning curve with the mask, nasal apparatus that is comfortable for you. My husband has one and when he has a good fit you can hardly hear him breathe. He would yawn all day bf he got the cpap, what a difference.

Caution for using PPI's
Keys, Can yu let us know how this works for you. Zantac is not a PPI? I am not familiar with all the OTC drug specifics. Thanks Linda

Breasts:
Question about Dr. Bello, have you heard about his work on the eyelifts? I am seriously starting to think about this in the coming year anniversary in Dec. along with a breast lift. Thanks AJW.

Breasts:
Lan I just wanted to respond to your question about cancer and implants. I used to do mammography which included implants and I had never heard that there was an increase of breast cancer. It is however more difficult to image the natural breast tissue around the implant with mammography alone. We use ultrasound as another tool and also advanced imaging with MRI on certain cases, but you should know it is harder to always be certain. I have to say that my husband says pop a couple in there anyway, especially since they have gone south on me.

Caution for using PPI's
I meant by OTC drugs such as Gaviscon, mylanta, rolaids and tums etc which neutralize the acid from food. The PPI's reduce the amount of acid the body makes. Antacids also have precautions but not the concern of PPI's. Either way I am not looking forward to weaning off these and using tums etc.,,blaaaa. The smell of them reminds me of when I was pregnant and used them...gag.

Caution for using PPI's
Another article that was posted on this forum was very informative about when you do try to wean off PPI's that you could get rebound and will have increased acid issues that you need to prepare for once you attempt it. Be ready for that with OTC acid reducers etc. I am not worried right now but this will be an issue with me before my year is out and hope I can come off PPI's.

Caution for using PPI's
Article in the Huntsville Times Tuesday May 11, 2010 Los Angeles: The widely used family of acid-reducing drugs that includes Prilosec, Nexium and Protonix increased the risk of bone fractures by about 25 percent and can more than double the risk of contracting the troublesome bacterium Clostridium difficile, new studies released Monday confirm. The increased risk is not thought to be caused by the drugs themselves, but by the sharply reduced levels of acid in the stomach and intestinal tract, which make the organs a more hospitable environment for infectious agents such as C. difficile and which can impair the uptake of the Calcium required for strong bones. The drugs have also been shown to increase the risk of pneumonia. Wish they had put the author of this but I have read about this before and it is a caution for me for getting off these as soon as I can. Right now I do need them though.

In Kind of a Funny Place on the Journey...
It may be you are bored with the food you are eating and starting to miss all the delicious bad food you used to have? I think Tiffy is right, if you start getting creative with new foods that are good for you you won't feel deprived and long for the old high carb/calories you used to have. I am so bad switching it up with new good foods and relying on same old standbys that I graze. Just another phase, atleast for me and I must tell myself this is not a race, its for life. Maybe also you ARE burning up your calories with the great physical exercise you are doing and up the food to see if that helps. Just a thought. You are working it for sure, you skinny Keys babe!
