Both of you are on phases that allow food to slide on through your pouch. You don't get a full feeling eating sliders. Things will change when solids are added to your diet. If you are hungry enough to eat something you aren't supposed to eat more of what you are allowed. The phases we go through are important. Try real hard to stay true to it

I am beyond excited right now!!
I just finished the last of my "homework" yesterday with lab work and had an appointment coming up this week to determine what comes next... thinking that's when they'd submit for insurance approval and then I'd have an eternity to wait and see if it went through.
IMAGINE my surprise when I get a call today and they said that not only had they already submitted for approval, but it was approved and I have my date set for 2 WEEKS!!!! March 15th, baby! That's one wonderful birthday present to myself (March 7th!)
I'M WALKING ON CLOUDS IN SUNSHINE UNDER A RAINBOW!!!!

I'm six months out. Last night I was in the market picking up things and I found my self wandering a bit, staring at all the junk I would have once consisdered buying. It was almost like visiting the scene of an accident, where you analyze it trying to figure where things went wrong. I wasn't tempted, just in awe of how much junk I'd have once piled in my cart. I'm healthier, off blood pressure meds and my overactive bladder is a thing if the past. Keep encouraged folks, it's possible and so worth it! I'm certainly not perfect and still have my struggles... But have found far more strength than I thought I had in this journey so far.

Fainting, tremors and weakness can be signs of low blood sugar. Several individuals that underwent RNY gastric bypass surgery experience a type of hypoglycemia called "Reactive Hypoglycemia". Here is one link about this condition but you can search for other links on the internet. https://www.ridgeviewmedical.org/services/bariatric-weight-loss/enewsletter-articles/reactive-hypoglycemia-postgastric-bypass/

Do you take your blood pressure at home when things happen? Fish oil can raise your be. It's hard at times to diagnose things. I had a fever once that lasted 6 months or so. I had every test my doctor could think of and he couldn't find the cause. Start keeping a log of vitals signs, bp, pulse, temp and blood sugar if you have a glucose monitor. Make notations when the symptoms appear. What were u doing, eating etc. perhaps you can find the missing link. I wish you well

We don't usually like to answer this question. Everyone loses at their own pace. We are all at different levels of physical capabilities . I think safely I can say 1-2 lbs a week. More in the beginning but as your body adjust so will the rapid wt lost. As for me at 6 months l lost 56 lbs. but I am a revision from a band. We lose a bit slower and due to a bad shoulder, wrist and both knees I keep active but can't do repetitive things. So see a lot of factors will determine your wt lost.

I have two pill organizers. One for my daytime meds and one for my night time meds. I also take Calcium and D during the day, but I keep those with my morning meds and just take them later. ONce a week I go through and set up all my meds for the week. This includes medicine and vitamins/supplements. Its the only way I have found to keep it all straight. I carry my daytime meds with me in my purse and keep the nighttime meds next to my bed. Its become a sunday night ritual for me to get them set for next week.
    I hope that helps.

I haven't had surgery yet, but I guess I would not have chosen to do this whole process for just weight loss. I have diabetes and it is causing problems health wise for me, so this is why I have chosen to do this surgery. The weight loss is a plus, but not the main reason for doing this. Unfortunately because of the amount of insulin I have to use in order to keep my numbers lower, but by no means in a good range, has caused me to balloon up to 271 lbs. I'm only 5'2", so needless to say I'm a bit of a ball. The weight is mostly in my stomach, so I also look pregnant. If it were just to lose weight, I could actually discipline myself to do that, but with the insulin it makes it near impossible to lose weight since insulin by nature causes fat to be stored. This surgery has been found to help control diabetes. So the weight loss is a plus, and I'm actually rather nervous to be "skinny" because I've always been a bit overweight my whole life. I don't really know what it is like to be "skinny".

Although I have not eaten a lot of sugar in the sugar I have eaten I've tolerated well but if I eat high carbohydrates such as Pasta I get violently ill. I also stay away from fried foods as they make me feel ill. The feeling is extreme nausea and sweaty and my mouth gets full of spit.

terrydumont46 reacted to Dar200 in Has anyone GAINED weight on the 6 month medically supervised diet?
I was "pre-qualified" for surgery by my surgeon through my insurance company. At my first meeting with my nutritionist, she told me that my weight she recorded was my Start Weight and if I gained any weight I would be turned down by insurance. That really motivated me because I only had a thirty day required supervised diet period. I became really focused on not gaining any weight and then decided that I would just go ahead and eat pretty much what I would be eating after surgery. I started by throwing out all the junk food in my house and replacing with everything healthy and every few days I would decide to try a Protein shake or narrow down carbs more. So when I went back to the Nut, I'd lost 18 pounds. She was astounded! So was I. We went through my food journal so she could make sure I was getting enough Protein and not skipping any meals. My appointment with my surgeon was in two days and she must have given him a good report because instead of having two weeks of the liquid pre surgery diet, I only had to do one. He said with my diet that clean, my liver would probably not get much better with two weeks. I had surgery a week later. I'm glad I did because I don't think I would have made it another week on liquids only. I had planned to go out and splurge on Mexican food before I started the liquid diet, but had to change my mind.
I don't think I would have lost that much if I had to do a six month supervised diet. I would have been going up and down like crazy because that is what I always did. Three to six weeks is how long I could stick to a diet, then I would start going nuts and go off it. My suggestion, slowly get your diet cleaned up. One week make one change, like stop drinking or cut way down on sodas. Next week track your Water, etc. Good luck!

I suspect this is more about head hunger and not real hunger given you had the sleeve. It is likely not possible for you to actually feel real hunger at this point. If you think you are actually hungry try drinking Water. Many times dehydration gives the same symptoms as hunger
Given this is likely head hunger, means you reall need some help getting your head around this. Have you considered a therapist?

I am 14 months post op, down 135lbs with 10 left to go. I can tell you that the restriction never goes away, people simply learn to eat around it. That's what they mean when it is up to you.
I have personally met people that are post op 10 years, the restriction is still there, your stomach size does not change. Our behaviors are what causes us to be successful or fail.
You do in fact still malabsorb your food and your nutrients which is why you take Vitamins for life.
Just don't eat around your surgery and all will continue to work great. Stay away from grazing and snacking here and there. Continue to track everything you eat, stay active, get your Protein and Water. The rules can never change for us. We are never done, we have never arrived.
That is what I am drilling into my brain everyday!

Stay calm. It is common to take a few weeks before you begin to lose weight. Your body is in a major heal mode and allowing it to heal is the prime goal at 10 days post-op. For one thing most patients gain weight while they are in the hospital because they are pumping fluids into you. So you have to first lose this added weight before you begin to see a weight loss.
So stay calm, follow the directions (meal volume, Protein, fluids and vitamins), relax and let the magic happen.

Other than the expected pain from surgery.... I feel awesome! Band came out 2 days ago. I've had ZERO heartburn since. I ate mashed potatoes and gravy and a few bites of very tender turkey. I didn't throw up. Holy crap I freaking hated that band! Now to heal and get ready for bypass on 12/29.
What's the pre-op diet like for bypass? liquid for how long?

Can you drink OK? Like Protein drinks? High-calorie drinks?
If your life is endangered, you have to figure out how to get your calories. Although we were instructed post-op not to "drink your calories," it's time to do so now (if you can). Get stronger.
And if your surgeon can't help, you must find other doctors who can.
    Good luck.
