I wish this forum would reactivate, and all of us "late baby boomers" could socialize. I had my surgery done on Aug 22, 2013. At my highest weight that I know of (Jan of '12), I was 327. When I had surgery last August, I was 271. I'm now at about 219. I don't really know my actual weight bc I only get on the scale at the doctor's office (I have scale issues.... LOL). I'm 53 (going to be 54 at the end of next week). My husband is 54. We joined a gym in June of 2013, and we are there SIX DAYS A WEEK. He's lost 50+pounds by working out and making better food choices, we are both in better shape NOW than when we were in our 30's and 40's.... Seriously! Keep posting, LET'S TRY TO GET THIS "FIFTIES" THREAD GOING AGAIN!!!!

cleesscruggs, I don't know if you were asking that question to the original poster or me....... I set a daily calorie goal on MyFitnessPal, and I try to avoid carbs as much as possible. bread and sweets are a trigger food for me, so I choose not
to bring them in the house. Most of the time, the band helps me with portion size and no hunger inbetween meals.....exactly what it's supposed to do. Best Wishes!

I am so happy to read posts by WLS twenty-something year olds, but I am even more happy to read posts by the FABULOUS FIFTY + group of women and men who have taken charge of their health by FINALLY getting the right tool needed to deal with our weight issues. I may have had the surgery for totally different reasons than a younger person (maybe not)........ But, for the most part, look how much healthier we all are by getting a hold on all the weight related health issues and mobility issues we all faced or would have eventually had to face. Not to mention, how much better we feel in our own skin, now that it is not strectched out from here to there...... LOL

What happened between the weight loss and now? Did you stop seeing your doctor? Did you get your band unfilled? Did you start eating sliders? What do you think happened?

Got in my hour of cardio...... Just finished a lunch of cottage cheese and peaches......Tastes like dessert to me. Tonight's dinner will be chicken salad on a bed of lettuce. Trying to get in more Water..... Will try to drink three glasses while working this afternoon, instead of one Water and two coffees....... Still haven't gotten on scale, so yeah. Elderly mother and mother-in-law seem to be a little better today, so yeah for that!!!!!

First, many people do not lose AT ALL the first few weeks after surgery (others do lose from the beginning). I think a big problem with most people is that they expect quick weight loss. The fact is, a good weight loss is one to two pounds a WEEK, not a day!!!!!! So, if a person loses between 4 to 8 pounds a MONTH, they are doing well. SUCKS, right???? I chose a different route along the last two years. I chose not to weigh but once a month...... I have seen anywhere from a three pound to nine pound weight loss each month. I do not get on the scale daily (my choice). Others get on the scale daily. It depends on what you can handle. Can you handle not seeing the number change on a daily basis? Can you handle a pound or two gain due to Water retention? I could not, so I decided to give up weighing daily. As I'm sure you have read, there is a period after lap band surgery and before getting enough fills to get in the GREEN ZONE. Many people experience little or no weight loss, hunger, and no restriction. Why on earth doctors and nurses don't explain this to banded people, I have no clue. My doctor and nurse practioner did explain that to me...... BEFORE MY SURGERY. So, I knew what to expect. It can be frustrating, but the band is not a magical fix. It works for those that work with it, and your total weight loss will NOT happen overnight, over a week, over a month, and in some cases over a year. Thus, you read about the weight loss as a JOURNEY. There are ups, downs, curves, flat plateaus , slips, and slides along that journey. Enjoy the journey. Log calories. Excercise. Make good food choices. It will work. It will work. It will work. Best wishes on YOUR JOURNEY.

I have been off of this site for three and a half months.....extreme circumstances that have been life changing, and nothing I would wish on anyone else. I have remained ACCOUNTABLE, but only to myself. I have continued to exercise and have not allowed myself to come up with lousy excuses not to. As a matter of fact, I am at a TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY with my gym, and it is about the only thing that has given me consistency in an otherwise very chaotic and stressful place that I find myself in right now. food choices have sometimes been another story, but I am accountable to logging every bite into MyFitnessPal. Going on a two year anniversary with that and I'm having trouble deciding if I want to keep doing that or if I want to try to live a maintenance life without it..... no decision made on that. I miss you guys, your posts, and your encouragement. Hopefully will check in a little more frequently since I am HOME after being away for three months. TAMMIE

Glad you got the mall walking in. My life yesterday was "the best laid plans of mice and men" gone awry. Woke up to having to bring my 90 year old mother to ER (all is now good), to witnessing my 84 yr old mother-in-law trip and fall on a curb and running back to the same hospital ER for 20 stitches to her forehead, 30 minutes after my mom was released. So, I did not: 1. Exercise, 2. Have one planned meal or even a back up plan. Called my husband to bring a Protein bar, only to find out that the college son left with them all that morning. Today is another day..... I just went to the gym and did my hour of cardio and I just made a POT of three bean beef taco Soup. Lots of Protein in that pot, and lots of meals!!!!!! I have not gotten on the scale for three days now. Hopefully, I will continue to get back to weighing just once a month (which works best for ME). I will also have a Protein shake today. Did make one poor decision today...... Went to the grocery store after Church, and I was HUNGRY. I try to not do this, but couldn't avoid the timing today. Didn't buy any crappy food items, but fought head demons the entire shopping trip. Yes, it was a victory, but I try to not put myself in the position of having to win that war when shopping.

I finally hit the 170s. Haven't seen this weight on a scale since high school. Found my high school skirt in a bag in the closet (went to an all girl's Catholic high school) and we wore plaid uniform skirts. This skirt was from freshmen year (1974).
OMG............ it fit and it fit loosely!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm also happy to have met you and many others through this site. Now, come on back down to New Orleans for one of those many vacations. I'm headed up to Baltimore tomorrow for the week (spending the week with my oldest daughter)....... Can't believe I'm going up in WINTER.....something I told her I would NEVER do. Guess a mother's love can override FREEZING TEMPS !!!!!!!! Proud of you, girl!!!!! And congrats on the newly found sex life. I've been sort of honeymooning lately myself with my husband of 26 years. 200+ pounds less between the two of us have helped that out!!!!!!!

Up and on my game today. Had grits with cheese , 3/4 C. Gummy Calcium. Laundry ready to fold. Grandson , age 2 on his way here for a couple of hours. Then off to the gym. Egg drop Soup for lunch is my plan. I need to defrost a chicken.... dinner?
Quinoa... I used Trader Joe's Organic White Quinoa. I use it just like I would Pasta. I did a lb. ground round, large can of tomatoes , 1 diced onion and 1 can of red Beans. I added 1 bean can of Water after the ground round was drained and onion tender. Then added tomatoes and 1/3 C quinoa. I put the Iron skillet in the oven covered for about 40 min. at 300 F. I topped with some muenster cheese slices when I took it out of the oven. Quinoa is a complete Protein unlike any other grain so I am using it more. Use chili powder and salt if desired.
