PuraVida37 got a reaction from Esi in Teachers out there... (or anyone with stressful jobs)
Teacher here--things that are working well for me:
I pack my breakfast and lunch the night before. For breakfast, which I eat on the 25 min drive to school, I have a hard-boiled egg with salt and pepper, 3 triscuits, and a few grapes. For lunch I vary it more--could be cottage cheese, deli meat and cheese, tuna pouch, or roast chicken and veg, hummus, etc. I usually don't have time for Snacks, but I do keep a stash of nuts and other things in case I forget my lunch or need something. I also keep Protein Shakes there too. I have a note from my doctor so I can keep a mini-fridge in my classroom for medical reasons. dinner at home is the only thing I leave undecided, but usually I make something over the weekend and portion out so when I'm exhausted at the end of the day then I don't have to think about it.
To encourage me to drink, I have a 32 oz bottle of Water that I fill the night before also, and usually add Crystal Light to it. My goal is to finish it by the time I get home--and frequently it's half full still when I start my drive home.
I set timers for everything--to remind me to take my Vitamins, to drink, to eat lunch, etc. because if I don't, it won't happen.
My 30 day pill organizer is perfect for grab and go when I set up my foods the night before. I never forget them anymore.
It's time we teachers practice self care, and if it means I don't get to everything on my work list, so be it. I've given so much of my life to those kids. I deserve to take care of ME now. And actually it makes me a better teacher.
(I still struggle with getting enough exercise, but I got myself a smart watch that counts steps, so I try to get to 7000 each day at the very least. I'm trying to do a little yoga before bed, too.)

if you're eating 800 calories a day, you'd be losing weight. I know you said you hate logging, but it sounds like that's what you need to do, unfortunately...

Highest weight (when I made the appointment) 385 January 2021 now I'm 235- 150lbs down total. 175 is my goal weight but honestly not sure I wanna be that small or not, kinda loving where I'm at... sans the apron of skin 😆

Checking in! Lost almost 90 lbs. Doing so much better. I was having headaches at the beginning, but now I can definitely say they are caused either by dehydration or if I eat too much. But now they are almost gone.
Haven't had any cravings except for pumpkin spice since it's fall, so I got pumpkin flavored Premier Protein. It's perfect. I don't need sugar or flour in my life anymore. Perfectly content to forego them.
I tried Couch to 5K multiple times, but pulled a muscle in my hip, so I'm just walking a lot instead. My next goal is strength training.

Hope everyone is feeling good and making progress.

PuraVida37 got a reaction from lizonaplane in Is anyone angry about food?
It's ok to feel emotions. Many of us food addicts would just medicate with food and suppress any kind of feelings (except eating to excess). You can be mad! Let it out!!! It's ok to mourn your loss too. Food has been a friend to me over the years, but actually I abused her and she did the same to me. Just like a real friend, cut that toxic bitc# out!!!! LOL But I think what you're feeling is perfectly normal and healthy as long as it's not interfering with your life or leading you to bad decisions.

You just had major surgery!! Cut yourself some slack!! Your job for the next 4+ weeks is healing and being kind to your body. If you had heart surgery would you be feeling the same guilt? Just like something like that, you did this surgery to save your life. So let people baby you do a little while with no guilt. It is very hard on us moms because we are so used to doing for others---but now is your time to be pampered a bit.
Every day really does get better. You'll be back to your independence in days. Take time to heal now though.

Your stomach is still healing. Don't do those things yet! Just because you can doesn't mean you should. You should be following your doctor's plan. You might be doing damage to your stomach, which is not healed yet. You could cause a leak.

PuraVida37 got a reaction from GreenTealael in 5 weeks post op: something doesn't feel quite right
Hi folks. I had a revision from band to sleeve on 3/26/21. I'm on stage 4 and had some ground up gyro meat for dinner last night that was a little dry, but I did OK with it. Today I feel "off". My head has a dull ache, I've had off and on dull ache in my stomach/chest, and when I took my swallow able Multivitamin, the underside of my jaw hurt a little.
What did I do? Is it just indigestion? Any ideas before I call my doc? Anyway, in the meantime I went back to just shakes to let my stomach calm down a bit. Thanks in advance for answering.

PuraVida37 reacted to Christina J. in Do you pee differently?
I used to have to pee ALL THE TIME. I peed before we left the house and usually still ended up going wherever we went. I woke up numerous times a night. After the surgery though it was one of the first things I noticed that changed. I make it all the way through the night, though about dawn I do have to go. I can make it through plane trips and car rides without needing to go. I will say that when I have to go it comes on kind of suddenly and it's difficult to hold it for very long. My husband and I have a theory (he is diabetic) that prior to the weightless/eating changes my blood sugar must have been a factor in why I had to go so often. Also, the decreased pressure in my abdomen with all the loss must be helping.

Sitting here this morning in my chair doing some reading. I glanced over to my table and saw the current yummy chocolate bar I’m working on. It has eight segments, each one 56 calories. I am now to a point where I can allow myself this treat and control it. Where back in the day this bar (plus likely quite a few other sweets) would be gone in a day, now I savor one square in the evening while I read. One Bar now lasts 8 days! I actually have to keep it sealed in a baggie to keep it fresh. In addition to all the other benefits, my sleeve has given me the control over food that I never had before.

Respectfully, I suggest when you see a topic you aren’t interested in just move along. This is clearly a topic that has great meaning to many of the members of our group. We come here for support. The LGBTQIA+ community has been discriminated against, targeted, and hated by much of society. Here they should experience nothing but love and support as they work through many of the same, but some unique to just them, issues related to their weight and health.

Your choice to support gun rights is just that. A choice. My being genderqueer and asexual is not a choice. It's who I am. And those two factors of my core being affect the way health care providers treat me and therefore my bariatric surgery journey.
That's why LGBTQIA+ is relevant here.
