1. I'm on day two and my breath got really, really bad today! My tongue tastes horrible so I can imagine what my breath must smell like. I don't think gum even touches this stuff. Does it last the whole time you are on liquids? That's six weeks for me!! By the way, I love my protein drinks and my doc won't let us have milk or fruit in ours. . . . not fair.
2. waterlilly - are you mall walking today with us? Hope so! This liguid pre-op is harder then it seems but the drop in pounds is amazing and that will help me to keep motivated. How did you guys do this?
3. Mer - things come up, it's work-a-ble, see you next week I'll still be there at 11:oo cuz I need to walk and I let life get in the way the last few days. I need to make me a priority!! Hope to see someone there!
4. My pills are working great! The pain in my esophogus is gone and I don't have all the heart burn. Who knew you could have all that from thrush. I won't be taking those antibiotics again since I had such a bad reaction from them. Thanks for all the hints and helps about what to do next time and prevention methods. You guys are great! See ya at the mall!
5. My pre-op is 2 weeks of protein shakes (90g/day) plus vitamins and clear liquids. For one week after surgery is clear liquids only (no vit. or protein), then I add back the vitamins and protein for the next three weeks. Dr. Oh says it takes one month for your stomach to heal, that is why he doesn't allow any food for one month. Then you do the mushies and on to food from there. Also I have to drink 64 fl.oz. of water/day. There is a huge variety of what you can and can't have when between the doctors. If you spend anytime on here at all you can see the huge variety of pre and post-ops. I know Dr. Oh is very conservative but that is okay since I want to get a lot of weight off quickly for that boost you need to keep going at the beginning.
6. Where are you Spot? To far to meet with all of us? Feel free to meet-up Friday morning at the Tacoma mall, 11:00am. I have some pills now that I dissolve in my mouth so that should take care of the yeast problem. I'm really hoping that will fix the pain in my gut too. I will try to get them all down awhile before bed and see if that helps, Thanks! Tomorrow is pre-op start day!!!! I'm so ready!!
7. I called Dr. Oh and they said call my PC but she doesn't work today soooo I called my dentist and he said most likely from intibiotics that I was taking for a UTI and drinking some wine on top of that. I'm picking up a mouth rinse soon so I hope that takes care of it. Hopefully that is what is causing the pain in my esophogus and stomach too. I did some reading on the internet on thrush and it suggested I eat lots of sugar free yogurt to help with the enzyme balance so off to the store I go. Pre-op starts tomorrow so I'm having a 'farewell to food' lunch with some friends today. Nothing feels that good in my throat though, bummer! nbjen - hows the rash? Better?
8. I plan on calling the doctor tomorrow by the way.
9. hey guys - I have had a few rough days. I started my protein and vitamins and have been feeling very nauseous and having pain at the top of my stomach. Tonight my throat started feeling weird, kind of like a tickle but scratchy so I looked down it with a flash light and there are white spots all over it. It could be thrush or yeast or something. I don't have a clue why or where it came from. Have any of you ever heard of this before????
10. Waterlilly - Welcome and it's always good to have people close by. please come and join the walking group this Friday. We could use the inspiration from you! Sue amd Mer - Friday at 11:00 it is! I will meet you at Starbucks.
11. sue - I'm okay with changing it to 11:00 if that works better for you. Are you okay with that Merrillee? welcome shellmar! Sounds like things are moving fast for you. It seems that there are quite a few here who go to NWWLS for their bands. Good luck!
12. This morning when I was at Dr. Oh's and there was a girl who got her first fill. She couldn't get even one cup down without throwing it up. They took her back in to take some out and then she could get it down. It was good to see that so I know what to expect. There was also a lady who had to have her band taken out because she eroded her esphogus after losing 90 pounds, bummer. the waiting room is the best place to get information and find out what works and what doesn't. I had plenty of time since I waited for an hour! There was another girl who had a fill last week and was there to get more since she didnn't feel any restriction. Interresting . . . Merrillee - let's plan on meeting at Starbucks, 10:am, at the Tacoma mall. There are a few tables there so I should be easy to spot . . . tall, short blond hair, and rather large. Is anyone else going to come??????? We will be walking!
13. Name the time on Friday, lets say Tacoma Mall because then we don't have to worry about weather. Is 10:00am to early?
14. wow - not sure what happened to that post. Does anyone else get a smilie face between every letter when they try and edit? I tried to edit the above post and it went all weird, took out my parragraphs and put them all together with those funny marks. anyone a computer wiz and can explain this?
15. I'm back! I was gone for the weekend with my sisters and sister-in-law planning a family reunion for about 140 people. They wondered why I was eating so strange so I told them it was a new diet regime with my doctor. I was drinking my protein shakes and taking tons of vitamins. My sister-in-law knows about the surgery and is very supportive but my two sisters are both overweight and would think it was to drastic. This knowing who you can talk to is difficult and I'm still tryng to figure it out. That's why I love coming on here and spending time with like-minded people.

nbjen - you did it! Thanks for sharring about your surgery and recovery! I hope it gets better everyday for you. keep us informed.

Mer & Sue - Friday would be great. If it's sunny then let's walk on Grandview, if windy and rainy then let's walk the Tacoma mall. Could we do ti earlier then 12:00 or is that the best time for you guys. I'm flexible, nothing on the calendar yet.

Druth - welcome! I have come to realize that those of us who are with Dr. Oh have a much more restricted diet pre and post op then anyone else. I'm okay with that though because I am hoping for a significant drop in weight at the beginning to give me the kick I need to keep it up.

Lucy - it sounds like things are going well for you. I love how you guys are so honest with your recovery so I know what to expect. keep us posted and keep up the speedy recovery.

Dawn - welcome and I am right there with you about the jitters. As it gets closer I think I have more mixed feelings about this whole thing. It does me so good to read about the successes of those who have gone before us. I know this is the best option for me but a part of me wishes I could do it with just diet and exercise. Honestly though . . if we could . . .we wouldn't be at the weight we are. So stay real!

Cindy - thanks for the updates, it really gives us hope. You are so encouraging and successful. Thank-you

For anybody else who wants to meet and walk it looks like next Friday something, somewhere, is going to happen. jump in and let us know you are interrested.
16. Mer - sorry you missed us. we got two laps in and checked back at noon just in case you thought that but didn't see you. We will set it up again. Next week I'm good on Wednesday and Friday anytime, but Thursday I have an appt with the internest and I didn't write down the time. I will have to get that from Dr. Oh's office on Monday. Let me know your availability.
17. Lucy and nbjen - check back in and give us an update when you feel up to it. We only hope the best for both of you.
18. Let's say Tacoma Mall at 11:am. That would be easier for Sue since she will be coming from federal Way. How about at Starbucks by the tables. Wear walking shoes! I've got to get my walk in and we can gab while we walk. I'm not very fast, especially if I'm talking.
19. Tammy - my insurance said no way too but I decided to go for it anyway. If you figure out the cost of a funeral, hospitalization, having to hire everything done for you because you can't do it anymore . . . .basically what is your life worth because that is what we are really talking about. My husband said I was worth a lot more to him then $12,800. Get a second mortgage on your house or spend some of your IRA because if you don't do this you probably won't be around to enjoy your retirement anyway. Am I convincing you yet? Merrilee - you are doing great with your weight loss! Way to go!! It doesn't look like anyone from Northbend is coming so lets meet closer. We can meet at the Tacoma Mall and walk or down on Grandview if it's sunny. Name the place and the time and I will come. Sue has her pre-op tomorrow so she can come if it after 10:00am. Had my pulmonary, ultra-sound, lung x-ray, and blood work done this morning. Then I went to the shrink and spent forever on the questions. I was waiting for the question,"Do you think this paperwork is dumb?" but it never happened. LOL I stopped by Costco and bought the magic bullet ($49.99) and came home and made a vanilla strawberry protein drink with real strawberries. YUM! It was thick like a shake. That thing works really well.
20. nbjen - I can't remember if you have Dr. Oh or not. I had my nutrition class today and then I went to Vitalady for my Vitamins and Protein drink. I really was not all that excited about the protein. I had a hard time finding one I liked. Three shakes a day is going to be hard for me. It seems like we are on liquids a long time with the two weeks pre-op and 4 weeks post-op. I have read some of these other threads that sound like they are on mushies in two weeks with just a few days of pre-op. Not fair! I just keep telling myself it will make a big difference in the amount of weight we lose at the beginning, which is a good jump start. Thanks for the tips on pre-op liquids. I have one week before I start it. Good luck on Friday . . . I'll be thinking of you.
21. nbjen - Friday is almost here for you!! Has the liquid been that bad? Two days till lapband land, I bet you are excited! Let us know how it goes. When you recover we will meet up. Good luck and God Speed . . . . Jenn or Jena - you guys feel like a meet-up on Friday?
22. hey! where is everyone? It's been real quiet on here lately. Sue - I finally got my walking in at 8:15 tonight at the YMCA . . . 1/2 hour on the eliptical runner w/arms. My legs felt like jelly when I got off. Mer - if you and I are the only ones meeting up on Friday, we should meet closer to home. Anyone want to meet-up with Merrillee and me on Friday April 27th?
23. If Sanjaya was still on he would sing 'I am the world' instead of 'We are the world' LOL
24. yep, the date is coming fast! I have one more week before I start liquids only for pre-op. Tomorrow is my first nutrition meeting so I'm sure I will be full of questions for you all. Blake is cool but kind of one-dimensional in his performance style. What he does well . . . he is great at.
25. you are so right about Melinda. Great voice, sweet personality, but where is her neck? the new haircut helped but still . . . . It's totally Jordan!
