  1. Well, good news! It finally healed closed this past weekend... I didn't realize how serious an infected incision could be until I went into the Dr's office. They actually told me I was very lucky because it could have been much much worse! In a situation like this, it's definately better to be safe than sorry!!

    Thanksgiving.....!?

I don't know about you all, but I got a 24lb birdie here that will be twice as much as my entire family will need. I'm really looking forward to having the leftovers, being as turkey is one of the lean meats we're supposed to be focusing on! How often do you have an excuse to cook a turkey? Think of it this way.... This holiday is tailored to us, lean meat galore

    Thyroid Issues Anyone?

Three and half years ago I gained 100 lbs in 6 months, went to my doc and demanded she test my thyroid levels. Yup, it was FUBAR'd. Three years later, we're still working on getting the dosage tweaked.... am currently at 150 mcgs. That 100 lbs never came off and it seemed like I was fighting an uphill battle. That's one of the reasons I decided to go for the band, and thus far I've had amazing results. I'm literally down a pound a day since my pre-op diet started, 38 lbs in 38 days. I'm happy happy happy

    Too Slow For My Taste

Carole, this is in no way, shape, or form meant to be mean or rude. My surgeon said it to me, and I think I've even seen it on here once. It's one of those things that is so obvious, until someone says it, you just don't think about it! "If you want to be a 120 lb person, you have to eat like a 120 lb person" - 120 lbs is just an example I realize I'm only 3 weeks in, and there is absolutely nothing in my band right now... but... The slower I eat, the faster I feel full. Get back to the basics! Take a pause between bites, chew thoroughly, don't drink while you're eating... etc etc. As the famous quote from the movie Waterboy goes, "YOU CAN DO IT!!"
  5. Went back to the Dr, they said it was tunneling so they dug out all the yucky stuff.... which is really strange. The doc was pushing really hard and digging out that crap and I couldn't feel it. Kind of like a numb mouth when you're at the dentist. I guess there's no nerve endings that far down, it was just a weird feeling! Also, SandyM was correct, it was infected and going to open up... oil change or not. Better it opened up sooner than later! We need to get MsKeeKee a bell to call for her butler during recovery
  6. Ok, went to Dr yesterday, they packed it & redressed it with one of those clear bandages they use right after surgery. I go back Thursday to have it re-evaluated... This is what I get for trying to save a lil money & change my own oil lol
  7. Ok, ok... so let's forego the, 'Josh is an idiot comments'.... Keep in mind I'm 18 days post surgery. I was working on my car today and as I was laying on the ground stretching to reach the oil plug I felt a pop. Turns out I popped one of my incisions wide open. Let this be a warning to all who think they don't need to take it easy after surgery!!

    Pain meds post-op

What kind of looney toon surgeon doesn't give out pain meds after a surgery????
  10. Your weight loss is fantastic! What worries me most is... you seem to be uninformed about this whole process. Like Missy said, 1-2 lbs (0.5-1 kilo) per week is the norm. Be proactive, do some research, and learn as much as you can about the process. These forums are fantastic and chalked full of info that will benefit you in the long run. Keep up the great work and get informed to make the most of your lap band experience!!!!

Nutritional therepist in kansas city area?

The nutritionist over at the Bariatric Center of KC, Laura, is awesome! She's eastern European and has a strong Russian type accent, and she will flat tell you how it is... no sugar coating from her lol
  12. My favorite thing so far has been cinnamon Jello applesauce: Boil Water, melt a handful of redhots in the water (yes, I realize these contain a small amount of sugar) Pour in your jello (1 large, or 2 small boxes) into the boiling water Mix in No-sugar added applesauce instead of the cold water Soooooooooo yummy

    Ummmm.....constipated

Milk of Mag was a nightmare for me, like Bandista said, if you go that route, go in easy!! My doc said attacking the problem from behind (literally, your behind) was the best way. I'm sure docs say different things, just try out different options and don't overdo any of them.... The last thing you want when you're super constipated is to start getting horrible cramps with no results! That possibly could have been my problem with MOM, I took 2 full doses in one day, cramps and gas galore!!
  14. 11 days post-op, down 10 lbs; 25 days since I started pre-op diet, down 24 lbs

    FIRST CONSULATION

Betsy, be proactive, check with your insurance and your surgeon's office and start working on any requirements now... supervised diet is the biggie! I was required to do a 6 month supervised diet and got 5 months of it taken care of before I ever stepped foot into the surgeon's office. Surgery date was exactly 2 months from my initial consultation. I've found that in all my healthcare needs, the more proactive and involved you are... the better results and more satisfied you are. So take charge!!
