Yes, I did some research before I chose her and everyone said good things about her. I was going to go to Dr Woodman but I heard a lot of negative things about him and I sure don't need any of that.
My son lives in Richmond, Va & his surgery date is 8/15. He is the one that introduced me to this board and I am so glad he did. We (all of us) need this bonding.
Best wishes to you in your journey!

Ok. Glad we got that sorted out.
May I offer a bit of advice? You may hear stories, but there are some important things to keep in mind. Many of the stories people pass on are about a friend of a friend's 2nd cousin (or some such distant relationship) who supposedly had such and such a problem. The first problem is that the facts are often distorted and exaggerated in the retelling because everyone loves to tell a good dramatic story, especially if they are trying to persuade you not to have surgery. You can never be sure what their agenda may be.
The second problem is that you never know the details of the other person's physical condition, their age, any co-morbidities which may have contributed to the situation, how well they followed their program before and after surgery, whether they followed the surgeon's instructions precisely---or did they do something stupid like not going to the ER when complications arose or tried to eat a steak 2 days after surgery, etc.... Some people make mind-boggling choices. A friend of my family developed an infection and blood clot after surgery. It was a weekend and instead of following her doctor's instructions and calling him to report any problem or going to the ER when she had very clear symptoms of a clot and an infection, she decided not to disturb her doctor on the weekend with a phone call and not to spend $75 to go to the ER. She died when the clot broke loose. She was a warm and wonderful woman, but she made two terrible choices. Sad, but her story doesn't signify anything for your likely journey other than a warning to call your doctor or go to the ER if you have concerns.
So while such stories may make you aware of some potential complications or issues, your journey will be very specifically your own, depending on your condition and history and how well you do with your program. There is so much to learn about WLS and the lifestyle changes you have to make before surgery and every day of your life thereafter. It's good to seek out information, but try to keep a balanced view and don't add unnecessarily to your own natural jitters by filling your mind with supposed horror stories. They bring you down and sap your energy just when you need to be focused on your own health and well-being.
All that said, if you read the thousands of posts on this forum and several similar ones you'll learn an awful lot about the challenges people have faced, as well as see the support they've gotten and how they have worked towards solutions. I hope this helps and that you will enjoy your journey and have the weight loss you seek. I sailed through surgery and recovery, even though I am older and have heart trouble, and am so thrilled with the results. I wish you similar happiness!

Having had VSG - Sleeve surgery last Oct, I can say it has been a great tool to aid in losing weight. I am down 106 lbs to date. I agree with other posters that you will not have the dumping that is with RNY or the mal-absorption. I am scheduled to have a revision next month to RNY due to severe reflux with the Sleeve. The doctor and I are hoping that moving to an RNY will solve the reflux issue. As for a which way to choose, I can say the Sleeve is a very successful surgery for weight loss, but you do have to be diligent on what you eat. I can have days where I eat 500 cal or days if I am not careful that can exceed 2000 cal. As always any WLS you choose is only a tool; you have to change your mindset on how you eat and look at food.< /p>

I'm like you I really didn't want to say anything. But I work in a small office of 4 ladies. We've been together 12 years and diets and weight have always been an issue for me. They are all normal size and of course I'm not. I cried when I had to tell my supervisor and I had to tell her to get the time off on the calendar. She told one other lady for me. I waited 2 weeks before I told the last one because she is a drama queen so I knew it would be a constant subject for her. And it has been.
I didn't want my husband to tell his mom even though we live in a different state because she's the town cryer. He told her on Saturday and his whole family know now. But in the end pretty soon it will be obvious to everyone that I've done something. And when I'm thin I won't care if someone says something about my weight!

I was all set for the sleeve right up til my consult. My doctor told me pros and cons most of which I knew and said its up to me ...why I changed to RNY ..first after watching sleeved friends on MFP still able to eat sweets and fried fattin foods up to 1200 cal of these made me have a heart to heart with myself...I need full restriction! Other factor I have a friend that has the sleeve and is now going for Rny next month, why go thru this more than once.
Like they say why have hamburger gen you can have prime rib lol good luck on which ever you choose!

In sorry. I hate to be harsh but I have a friend who had the sleeve in May. She has only lost 30 pounds. I would be pissed. It's gonna be like the band. I want the procedure that been around for years. Plus it's non reversible. So all the lap bands they are taking out. They sleeves will have to stay in. Yuk

I was all set for the sleeve but have changed to the bypass as there's many more years' evidence behind it and is still considered the gold standard of WLS. What really struck me was that there's a group of people here who are revising from sleeve to RNY! I do not want to be going through all this again in x years time.

I'm so sorry your family isn't supportive of your decision to get healthy. Have you asked them why they won't support your decision? I think they are just scared that you will be the skinny one in the family and then it will make the rest of them look bad. You have chosen to do the right thing for you and it's NOT really their choice so I wouldn't sweat it. We here on RNY talk can be your new supporting family if you'll let us. You can bounce anything off of us and we'll be here for you. You can email me any time if you want someone to talk to one on one at dviveiros56@gmail.com. Good luck with your surgery and wash your hands of the toxic people in your life.
