alm73 got a reaction from dee257 in Besides weight loss, what has been the biggest benefit since getting surgery?
I recently had surgery and haven't lost much yet but isn't it crazy that with only having lost a little I feel so much better...emotionally, personally, physically... I already have more confidence and self appreciation and I've only just begun!!

alm73 got a reaction from starqueen714 in First fill
My first fill was 4wks out (1 week ago) Then every 2 wks after the first.
I feel completely different after just one 4cc fill. I can go 3-4 hours between meals. Not craving Snacks. Loving it!!

Hello Kathy congratulations in your amazing weight loss and kudos to you for having made a decision on reconstructive surgery.
I was banded 8/2010, weighed 300 lbs in a dress size 26...today am 164 and a size 8.
I am 12 weeks post op abdominalplasty and breast reduction.. I had 7lbs of fat/flesh removed... The best advice i can give is to get a "lift chair". I lived in it for 3 weeks... It is incredible how much help it was for me when having to get up, if even just to use the bathroom. I was not too proud to use a walker n shower chair either... best thing I did for myself.. My sister recently had surgery (hysterectomy) 3 weeks post-op and did not plan ahead she is still suffered because of it... It is incredible how much we use our ab region just to sit and stand, with the tt it is painful, and a tough recovery but I would do it again in a heart beat!! Gonna get my legs n arms done next!! But probably not for another year. Also be prepared to feel exhausted it takes alot out of you... I'm finally back to routine schedule with gym n work out, took me exactly 3 months to have energy to go back! Oh n crunches still hurt but I'm glad to be able to finally feel a bit normal again...
Good luck to you, you'll do great!! Hardest part is mentally preparing yourself! You've done that already!

alm73 got a reaction from sonyasback in June 27th Banders...Post Op
I had my fill yesterday. The Dr numbed it, added 4cc and all is well. The shot site was a little sore afterwards but fine now. Back to liquid/mushies for yesterday and on to regular food today.

A heart rate monitor that allows you to enter your individual personal stats to track calories burned is the best 100 bucks you'll ever spend!

Mine was easy peasy. The mortality rate for lap band is .05% which is VERY low and 1/10th that of gastric bypass.

I wish I could have voted for "all of the above"
But I have to say my health....too long a story to list everything that was wrong with me.....my PCP said flat out I did not have much longer to live...this after my Brother and Sister both passed away at an early age due to every illness associated with being Obese and eating poorly....I was definitley in the same boat, following their footsteps.
I'm now 61, feel like I'm 40...run 5 miles a day, 5 days a week...plus weights and core.....My Cardiologist, Endocrinologist, Pulmonologist, Dermatologist, PCP and my Bariatric Surgeon all say I am a perfect example for someone my age in perfect health and fitness level....with no excess body fat!
All because of the Lap band = a New Lifestyle, NOT another diet.
(My new running shoes came today UPS...can't wait for 5:30am to get here!!!)

So inspiring to those of us getting closer to the big event -- thank you for all these examples of what to look forward to in the coming year or so!

I am very new, banded for only 2 1/2 weeks. One thing that has already happened is that I've learned the difference between satisfied and full. At the moment I have no restriction, but as I eat my cup of food for dinner (slowly) I am able to stop and listen to my body. For the first time in my life I am learning to realize when I am no longer hungry, and I'm actually leaving food on my plate.

alm73 reacted to Pygo in Not losing
Make sure you are being totally true to yourself when logging calories. It's easy to downplay what you've had to eat and drink and think you've only had 800 when in reality it could be nearly double. I always log slightly more calories than I actually eat so it works purely to my benefit. If you are eating only 800 and still not losing, well id maybe pick up your activity and start cycling your calories.

alm73 reacted to BeachBish in YAY! Started onto mushies...help please?!?
East ON a smaller plate or even a 1/2 serving size little bowl...like a tad of cottage cheese.... YES, I am still having the bloating! ????

alm73 got a reaction from BeachBish in YAY! Started onto mushies...help please?!?
I am just now starting mushies as well and am having a hard time eating an entire 1/2 cup because I'm so scared that ill overeat. I've always "cleaned my plate", which is part of what got me here to begin with, & now I still really want to finish my food, but can't tell if I'm full. So I just stop eating. A little after I stop eating, either I'm overfull or bloated. I don't know which.

alm73 reacted to deleteme in Newly banded bandsters!
I am 1 week postop and here is what I did:
For the first few nights I slept in my daughter's bed as mine was too high to climb in. I think it was probably night 3 that I got into my own bed with careful maneuvering.
I began driving again 4 days post op. I have an SUV that I have to hitch up into a bit. I had to have my kids shut my door a few times because I couldn't lean over to close it. I've since learned to pull it with me as I get in. Getting in and out still have challenges. Try your truck first and then see how you feel.

I had to put a small pillow kinda under my belly to support it. It helped a lot.
