You might also look at the Oikos Greek Yogurt dips (next to other refrig dips at grocery store). They come in 4 diff flavors and taste great w/o all the bad stuff. Had friends over last wknd and didn't tell them what they were devouring until almost gone. They were amazed.

Oikos Greek yogurt comes in 4 great flavors. French onion, dill and cucumber, veggie and herb, and roasted red pepper. It tastes just like dips made w sour creme w/o all the calories. Not bad a'tall.

The process of learning healty habits will be difficult but is temporary and to be expected. The destination=a healthy, happy you is the goal and gets easier and is well worth it.

I'm sorry you have to experience that. I hope you find the support you need here or elsewhere. Take care both physically and emotionally. Remember that you are worth it and are very brave to do whatever you have to do to get healthy. The easy way out, really? I need clarification....which part is easy? Pre-op diet? Post op diet? Dealing with post surgery gas ? Redefining my relationship w food?

Good for you. When i have those thoughts about not being able to gorge, i realize it is my dependency talking and not the healthy me who realizes that gorging one's self is a short term solution w long term consequences (all negative).

I've been very fortunate w my healing process. Was banded 7/2 and only took pain meds twice to satisfy my partner. Gas was my main issue which i resolved by numerous trips to the mailbox. Have slowly increased distance but careful not to overdo and have followed diet to a T. Also doing breathing treatments in little tubbie thing. At work today and feel great. Funny side effect since surgery, everyone and i mean EVERYONE reaks of garlic. Strong garlic. Makes kissin the lil old (and young) ladies in church quite the experience. Go for first postop this Thursday. Hope to get on mushies. My kingdom for a tablespoon of pulverized tuna salad. Who knew, who knew!? scales pointing to a WL of 30lbs but Dr will have final word on that. Good luck everyone. Take it one step at a time.

I have very few foods, if any, I "can't" eat. Brussel sprouts are almost always a problem for me...and I don't really know why. I don't eat sandwiches....mainly by choice, just not a real desire to. I don't eat much Pasta, or steaks often at all. But I can if I really want to. I should say, I rarely ever get stuck....maybe once a month, due to poor eating habits.
Mostly what I eat is home prepared now. I'm always glad when I have to buy dishwasher tabs...means I'm eating at home more often. That used to be a real problem for me...I ate "out" a lot. sauces, gravies, butter, etc, etc...
When I eat now, I don't limit my portions to any certain amount. ( 1/2, 1, 1 1/2 cups and all that seem like a diet to me....been there, done that.) I eat a much smaller amount than prior to getting my band correctly adjusted FOR ME. You see, I was never any good at PORTION CONTROL.....that's why I got banded! And it certainly works....now that it's properly adjusted. Some folks do great eating only a certain amount, but I failed many, many times trying such diets.
Now I try and cook lots of veggies, fresh 95% of the time. Almost no canned goods.
I use my crockpot quite often. chicken, pork roast, lamb shank, pork steaks ( I'd never heard of them til I moved here ) Homemade stuffed peppers, lentils/onion/ham pieces, corned beef. So easy, and tender, moist.
I probably eat fish at least 5 times a week. Swai, catfish, grouper, halibut, flounder, cod. Grilled/blackened/even fried. It's my favorite solid Protein...and never have any trouble with it.
Tonights meal = spaghetti squash with vodka sauce, oven baked cut up sweet potato/zucchini/onion medley with some EVOO/seasoning on them, a small amount of polenta, half an avocado......and homemade fruit salad for dessert. Pretty low Protein dinner.
BUT, I had quite a bit of fried fish (about 8 ounces) and a salad for lunch.
I'll have a 40ish gram protein smoothie/shake around 9pm, three hours before bed. I didn't have anything except coffee until about noon today.
That'll put me right at 80 grams for the day, which is my target over the long haul. Some days it's more, some less.
I have used LoseIt! to track what I eat/exercise since Jan 14th...just out of curiosity, not as any limit. It works for me that way. Here's my avg's since then.
    Calories eaten 1858 ( I eat a lot )
    Exercise 779 ( I ride a lot )
Net Calories 1079 it evens out
As far as specifics I ( think ) I know now, that I didn't prebanding.... IT takes time to change our eating habits. And the most important is correct adjustment for the individual person...no two people are the same. Just because we may have different ideas of what the band is/is not supposed to do, we're really all after the same goal...TO BE HEALTHY! Best wishes to you for your success!

    Thanks again,, Catfish.
Can you share how you're able to eat most foods? Is it the small bites and quantities, a certain way you prepare, brand? Any other specifics that you know now that you didn't know when you started your journey?

Playrider got a reaction from Marycusa29 in July 1 2013 band day
What an interesting day of emotions: I was banded this morning (Houston) and the conversations between the left side of my brain with the right has almost been comical. Stuff for a reality show or a new sit-com (is there a difference?). Fortunately, I created a mantra for myself a while back to handle such debates, so when I was waiting to be wheeled in to surgery and heard the voice say, "What the He!! are you doing?", the other voice was ready with the logic and facts to respond. Here's some info to share that may be helpful for others: I arrived at the center at about 7:30a and left about 12p. Completed some paperwork and was taken back into surgery area where I signed a few more papers, BP checked, temp, etc., met w anesthesiologist, had IV started w fluids, then the surgical nurses came in and gave me the shot that made began to relax me. At that point, I was taken into surgery room and the rest of the anesthesia was administered, In what seemed like a blink of an eye, I woke up banded. I stayed for about an hour longer getting my post-op instructions (most of which I had received in my pre-op meeting w my Dr) sipped on Water and warm tea, then left. I am currently feeling sore but not any large or sharp pain. I plan to follow instructions to the letter so my body can heal and accept the band. I was told that warm beverages and being burped (by a friend) not hard but harder than you would a baby, helps you burp and relieve the gas and along with walking, is working. As soon as I learn how to create a new paragraph I'll do so to help organize future posts. Sorry for the epistle but hope some of this helps. God Bless and Best of Luck to us all.

The only reason you won't have the procedure is if you or your Dr says you won't. This isn't a cancel but a postpone. There is a reason you're not supposed to have this done now so trust and dig deeper to make it happen. Not trying to be flippant but hoping this makes you all the more determined. My thoughts for strength, understanding, and perseverance go out to you. It will happen. Hang in there!
