Prynn65 got a reaction from Carol.mcpherson in 4 days Post Op and Having a Moment
Hey there! Yes, that first week is especially scary in many ways. And I can also sympathize with the hubby issue. But you are very near over the worst of it. I am 20 days post-op and on day 10 I had lasagna and remember saying to myself "I feel human again!" Since that time, I have moved on to more foods and having no problems. You know, if you chew soft foods very well, you will "puree" them in your mouth instead of the blender. I've now had very tender roast beef, chicken, vegetables and pasta--even some crackers. My doctor says I'm doing great and to keep it up. (I'm still not going to try bread or steak or anything like that for awhile.) But my point is, it feels like the liquids will last forever, but before you know it, you're eating real food again--but you just have to remember to chew slow and thoroughly before swallowing and to keep the bites small. I've lost 18 pounds and am feeling great. I had my first fill yesterday and afterwords I had to go back to liquids for that day--and it worried me because I was having trouble even swallowing Water without some feeling of restriction and discomfort. But apparently the fill causes swelling and then it subsides because today, although not up to eating meat, I had mashed potatoes, corn and beets--and ate it no problem. And for the hubby, well. in my circumstance, what I discovered was that my husband was actually grieving--he felt that we would never eat dinner together again and never be able to go out and enjoy ourselves again. He was being self-centered when of course it's "me" physically and mentally going through something very tough--but now I do understand that he also is impacted by my decision and now that he sees I CAN actually eat food and have dinners with him, he's fine. I hope your hubby comes around too--he may be going through a similar grieving process. Anyway, hang in there. You are doing what you need to do to deal with the toughest days--but the light is just around the corner. It's a bright light--fueled by your new happiness.

I was banded 1/24/13. I'm at 6.5cc. I'm suppose to get a .5 fill this Thursday, but I don't think I'm going to get it. I'm getting full with a cup of food now and I have to remind myself to eat because I'm not hungry at all now. I think I'm in the "Green Zone"! YAY!

Was hanging out with my (skinny) friend, looking in shops and whatnot. Ended up in Target with which I have a love/hate relationship. Their prices can be great but their sizing sucks. So, a short sleeved cardigan caught my eye. I handed my purse to my friend and said "I'm going to try this on but I know it won't fit." after all, it was a Large and I barely fit in XXL in that store. Well, imagine my shock when it slipped right on and fit comfortably even with my shirt underneath.
Goes to show that when you aren't feeling like you're doing so great, you can be presently surprised!

That is not good. You have to drink at least Water just to keep from getting dehydrated. Please call your doctor's office and inform them. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Prynn65 reacted to drehn88 in Lots of left shoulder pain
Since you aren't newly banded it might be from eating too much or too big of bites. I definitely get shoulder pain when I eat just a little too much. I think it's my "soft stop", but it doesn't start hurting until about 15 minutes after I stopped eating. I'm starting to worry that it may be caused by my pouch being stretched. I'm worried I'm eating too big of bites even though nothing has gotten stuck.

OK So I am 3 weeks post op and fairly new to the world of the Lap-Band. With this being said sometimes I have NO IDEA what you people are talking about. So I wanted to start a list of acronyms often used on the site.
    For example-
WLS - weight loss surgery ( pretty simple but still)
PB - Productive burp (?) Is this a "nice" way of saying throwing up?
    NVS - (???) NO IDEA
    PLEASE ADD TO MY LIST!
I hope this is beneficial to other new bandsters as well who might be too embarrassed to ask what these mean or can not figure it out in context.

Thank you very much. I am much better today. Not completely comfortable as I was before the fill, but enough. Thanks for the advice, I sincerely appreciate it.

One step at a time and breathe. My daughter was angry at me for the wls but now that she sees that I'm loosing weight and happy, she's coming along. Maybe hubby (men can act like kids) is just worried. When I feel I'm loosing it, I rush to lapband talk for comfort. Keep up good work.

I told my job that I had a hernia surgery. They are fixing it while they are in there so it is not a lie. If people ask about the weight loss I plan to say I have made a lifestyle change. I may eventually tell people depends on the situation. I am a high school teacher. I have an internal moral quandary as to what to tell my inquisitive students. Lol

Huberman, right? He was easy... My experience was that Ren-Fielding is a good surgeon but I got more information on this site than anything they told me in the office...especially the nutritionist. She was of no help other than telling me to eat 3 oz. Protein, 1/2 cup veggies, 1/4 cup carbs. It's working but I'm also wide open...no fills. I'm just one of those lucky few who doesn't need them. I was banded six months ago and lost 70 lbs. so far.

I have it, too. I'm only 17 days postop-- I notice it returns when I am "full" from eating. But overall, doing pretty good. I hope yours subsides soon.

Thank you sooooooooooooooo much! You were 100% correct! It was much better today. I stuck to mushy foods--and had no problems, except for the return of the hiccups--but I understand the hiccups, so I am not worried. Thanks for your encouraging words--they were comforting and I appreciate it very much.

Hi. I am 18 days post-op. Doing very well, down 16 pounds! But today I had my first fill. I'm now at 3.5cc. My question is, over the last week, I had returned to a "normal" feeling when eating/drinking, as long as I eat/chew slowly. No more hiccups or "bubbles" or pressure feeling. They told me after the fill to have only liquids "for today". But just drinking small sips of Water have to "settle in"....and I'm having lots of "bubbles". How long does this feeling last? I'm afraid to eat again just like right after surgery. Will I be able to eat soft food tomorrow without trouble?
    All advice is appreciated. Thanks

Especially as you can tolerate. Fills can vary wildly patient to patient in the amount of initial swelling and the amount of time they can take to "kick" in. Just listen to your body when youre eating and watch for any sign that the food is processing harder than normal. If this happens, stop eating til the sign goes away and then resume with smaller bites/more focus.
If you end up getting stuck/PBing, then return to liquids for the day as this can irritate the band.

I had to go clothes shopping due to my job I wear dress pants and suits, my pants are to the point I am afraid they will fall to my ankles! So shopping I went...... to my shock I bought 2 size 14 pants ....not womans size but regular size 14! I remain in shock, mostly because I continue to see the really out of shape in need of work woman in the mirror! I know and am fine with the fact that I am a slow loser and this is just fine with me as long as the scale goes lower. But, when will I see someone I can relate to in the mirror? It is almost my one year bananniversary. Best decision I ever made, I now know what the "green zone" feels like.....heaven! I have so got this! Just wish my mind would catch up with my weight loss!
