beanie80 got a reaction from DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in Radiating EAR PAINS??
It doesn't sound band related to me, but I'm new to this whole band thing. You might want to head into your PCP and get your ears and throat checked out.

    Hi Binx,
The Soup is awaiting in Pennsylvania
I can only feel my port, not the band. I hope I will never feel the band, actually.
The big news was yesterday that I was able to roll on my side at night (both directions).

Where do you live? I'm coming over for soup!! I'll bring the sf popsicles for dessert.
I would probably wrestle a piece of bread away from a screaming, hungry baby right about now. I'm not afraid to admit it.

Thank God it's over, not that bad pain is mostly at port area & minimal asthma attack during procedure but all is good. I stayed over night as recommended for treatment but I must say all is well no hunger just dry mouth.
On a note: for any/all that takes meds make a list of dosage & not only make a note on phone but email yourself a copy & whomever is taking you plus paper. I only did digital & cyberspace stole it.
On a funny note: after hours of no Water they ask for urine sample & I dropped it in the toilet. Way to go. I was allowed a do over later.
    Good luck to all banders.

Hey everyone! After hours of being on the phone with his HR department, United health Care and COBRA they have since decided that because he worked today, and was clocked in that he can pay out of pocket for his insurance for the rest of the month. It will be expensive but less than the surgery! All of your comforting words made me happy! Thanks guys! I was a big ball of mess earlier and now I feel much better. None of my fills and after care will be covered but my family is all pitching in to help me. Once again.. thanks! Without knowing about Cobra and other benefits I wouldn't be able to do this. I feel like as if they were giving me no other option until I read all of your comments! Keeping my fingers crossed!!!!

I am so very sorry dear heart! This is devastating and something that I worried about in the back of my mind during the entire ordeal. My job is "safe" but you just never know. Wow. I'm going to pray that he gets an even better job, with more benefits quickly - I don't know if you and your family are religious, but I do know that the God I serve doesn't close a door without having a greater on for you to enter. Yes, this is a setback and my heart breaks for you but please try to keep in mind that everything in life happens for a reason. We don't understand it and yes, it is hard to accept when things don't go our way but I have faith that your dad will get new job and you will get your band soon.
Is there anyway to pay for COBRA for the next 30 days, just to get the procedure covered? You can worry about fills later, but for now see if COBRA is an option and if your band is covered under that policy, chances are it is.
    Keep us posted.

So I've been lurking for a while & thought I would say "hi" today. I have my lap band consult scheduled for 9 days, 23 hours and 40 minutes from now. lol (Yes, I'm excited.)
I finally got the financing on track, which was a huge, emotional roller coaster. I've picked a doctor, and now I just can't wait to get the ball rolling so to speak. I'm so ready to start this next chapter of my life, and for the first time in a long time, actually feel good again. I'm so tired & low energy all the time. I've got so many blessings, a great husband, 2 beautiful toddlers... now I just need to fix myself.
I'm most excited about getting healthy and feeling fully present in my own life! I just can't wait. I love reading all of your stories and successes. They make me feel like I have a shot, too.
Anyway... Hi all! Can't wait to be a bandster.

But that said, I went to my best friend before surgery and told her how important she was to me and that I was afraid she'd be unhappy or pull away after I had it... Ended up convincing her to do it too and now she's at goal and I'm on my way!!

What kind of doctor does major surgery and doesn't prescribe pain meds for recovery. My prayers and best wishes for a speedy recovery. I am due to be banded in two days

I've spoken to someone who had theirs well over 20 years. Of course they are not from the US because it was approved in Europe long before here. Band is intended to work for life as long as there are no malfunctions or complications.

Does your surgeon's office have a support group? Mine does and they do cooking classes and help each other to break those bad habits. Might be a good way to help you get back on track.
What helps me to stay away from my temptations is asking myself does my body really need this? why do I want this food/drink? I tell myself it is empty calories that my body does not need to function, so why do I feel the need to eat it? I usually figure out it is something emotional behind why I want to eat something like that. Good luck and you are smart to come here and look for support!

To be the Devil's advocate....Dr.'s sometimes see patients all day long, and put up with a lot of BS....sometimes you just want to smack the next person who starts on you.....so by the end of the day you can get very short and gruff....almost a "Here, take it or Leave" attitude.....
Not saying that was your Dr., nor am I making excuses...it just happens...Dr.'s are people too who put in long hours and have to hear everything......

beanie80 reacted to Allie2013 in Hiking! I did it.
Hi Everybody - I just want to share my journey today. It's been just over a month since I got the band and I've been doing walks and hitting the gym a few times a week but I've always wanted to be that person who said "I went hiking today in the Colorado mountains" and I did it. It was tough, very tough. I was 280 and now 263, wish it was a bigger weight loss. Today I hiked up the mountain with a very patient and understanding friend. I hiked/walked for 5 hours and boy am I hurting. I hope this is my start to a new lifestyle and to weight loss. I have to admit I did munch on some mixed fruit/nuts up on the trail, we took a break to get reenergized. Hope I didn't overeat too much but that hike made me hungry so I made a small salad and half a sandwich.

This is actually a major pet peeve of mine. I agree that doctors don't always paint a true picture of life with the band but I also firmly believe it's our responsibility to educate ourselves. I mean, I see thread after thread of people on here totally clueless. Obviously, they have internet access and know how to search because they found these forums. So why in the world would they not use the powers of Google and research the band BEFORE the surgery?
People will spend months researching a car before buying one. They'll even research the best computer or the best smart phone. Yet they don't spend time researching a surgery?
I always say- ignorance isn't bliss and most of the time you can't blame that ignorance on anyone but yourself. People need to take responsibility for their own life and their own choices.

beanie80 reacted to gowalking in Obesity as a disease
I read a comment somewhere (not on this forum, but related to this issue about obesity being a disease) from a person who said that food cannot be an addiction because there is no chemical dependency like there is with drugs and/or alcohol. If that's true than what about the gambler? Gambling is an addiction but there's no chemical dependency. So...that theory goes belly up.
Besides..when you hear about people who are addicted to booze and drugs talk about their addiction, it's very easy to substitute food for drugs/alcohol and have the feelings be the same. I have a good friend who is a recovering alcoholic and she explained to me that there's no way an alcoholic can walk away from a half finished drink. The alcoholic drinks to excess and cannot stop with one or two drinks. Is that not a familiar experience for us food addicts? Leave food over?? No way. Eat till you are sick....sure...been there, done that.
It's all about excess...be it food, drugs, alcohol, gambling, whatever. For those who will never understand, we cannot pick and choose when it comes to addiction. Some can't be diseases and others be behaviors. For the addict, it's all the same regardless of the addiction.
