I had such a hard time finding an actual cookbook that had high Protein, low carb, nutritional info and color pictures. I finally settled on bookmarking various internet sites that had all of the above. i really like world according to eggface, but unfortunately she doesn't list the nutritional info of her recipes.< /p>

I dont think I could have same surgery w/ the same surgeon if i saw my dad end up like that. My surgeon has said twice in about 3000+ surgeries that he's done, he's had to convert from a sleeve to a bypass. It sounds like that's what you dad might be heading for. I hope he gets better, I think what he's going through is what I'm worried about for myself. I'm not worried about dying (weird yes i know). I'm REALLY worried about the in between, it's not life and it's not dead..

For me this part of the journey was extremely hard. I was constantly hungry, and craving all kinds of foods. I had to do it for a week, and the first day of the diet started off good, but by around five pm that day, I gave in and had a sandwich from
SubWay!! afterwards I felt very guilty, and disappointed with myself. For sure I thought there is no way that I will be able
to commit to this if I cant even do this for a week. But after thinking long and hard about the ways that my life was about to change, I buckled up, and started to eat the things that the nutritionist assigned to me. The day of my surgery was this past
January 28th, and everything came out great!! I am now 2 weeks post op. So please believe that you will be able to do this.
Drink your shakes, and Water, and your broths and try and keep busy so that you don't think too much about your hunger.
Good Luck, and know that you are going to be fine

I'm on day 9 of this existence, low sodium broth, coffee,sf popsicles,sf Jello all of these help if you are allowed them every pre op diet is a little different. Also I find it helps to keep busy, read a book, watch a movie, work just don't watch the food network. I felt a little better around day 5 but been having my ups and downs. Hang in there!

I'm on day 2 of pre-op diet and I'm hungry. I went to bed early last night so I could ignore my growling stomach. Surgery 2-25. How's everyone else's prepping going?

I recommend you buy single bottles of Protein shakes before buying a case. You don't want to be stuck with something you hate. Many people like the Premier Protein Shakes. I was not a fan. I prefer the GNC lean shakes (strawberry flavor). powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury is also popular. I have not tried their shakes but the chicken broth was good. Also, you might want to find a greek yogurt that you like. One thing to be careful of regardless of brand is the quantity of added sugar. Some Protein Shakes I saw had tomes of sugar which is counter productive. Your surgeon's office should also have a list available of recommended Protein shakes. There are a lot of choices out there. Hope you find one you enjoy!

chubbsey1 got a reaction from emilees_mom in Is the pre op diet needed?
This might of been said before but maybe we are assigned the pre-op to give us a glimpse of what is to come, speaking from my own experience I am a week in to my liquid diet is it fun,NO is it doable YES. The way I look at it is as a test, if I can't suck it up for 2 weeks how am I going to live the rest of my life eating what is essentially a restricted diet.
The negatives for me so far: headaches, nausea, cramps (from Protein shakes) and a general disinterest in food ( I use to go the supermarket like I was going to a party, my most recent trip was underwhelming) Positives: Lost 11 lbs in a week, a general disinterest in foods and saving money on groceries. Hang in there folks and good luck!

Just getting as healthy as you can before surgery can help with any risks associated with it. It's not easy to change eating habits but for me it would have been harder to recover from surgery and getting used to eating completely different at the same time. My surgery is scheduled or next Wednesday and as of yesterday I've lost 30 lbs. thats 30 more I won't have to lose and will be lighter for surgery

It depends on when your surgery is they have to heal your stomach before they can operate. They found ulcers during my first Endo they treated them with nexium/Prilosec cocktail scoped me again ulcers were gone and my surgery is next Tuesday. Good luck.

@@chubbsey1 - Buy a few sample packs of another brand. Try them for a week. If they don't bother you then you know it's the Premiere Protein. It's the same type of exlcusion test my allergist had me do for certain foods we thought were triggers but didn't show up on allergy testing.

I've been at goal weight for years, I am 11 years post-WLS and food is often still a struggle. Although my weight doesn't fluctuate more than 5 or so pounds from goal weight, which I maintain, it is always a struggle.
I was on a cruise last week and the buffet was like a mermaid singing her siren's song enticing me to shipwreck myself on her fattening rocks. So tempting. And for the entire week she never shut-up!

What I'm beginning to accept is that I will ALWAYS be a food addict and need to remain vigilant at all times. I won't be permanently free of this addiction and there will always be struggle involved.
It seems my only choice is whether I struggle at a healthy weight able to participate in active sporting and life endeavors or whether I will struggle while I return to morbid obesity at 333 pounds and live out my days sitting in a chair in front of the tv gorging myself.

I choose to struggle while healthy and active. I have tools and support for continuing to choose the healthy, active path.
Maybe that's as good as it gets...and that's enough!
