Shepherds pie has lamb and cottage pie has beef. Otherwise they are the same. GG, the profile pic only from a few weeks ago when we were in Melbourne. I bought a bike and rode it 5 km home! I'm exhausted but proud. I got this one: http://m.specialized.com/us/en/bikes/globe/work/work-2-step-through

So I'm on my way to shop for a bicycle. I don't even recognize myself. Love my sleeve. Me a year ago:

Lapband Vs Sleeve Vs Bypass Surgery
After you are on full solids, there is no restriction on food types that you are able to tolerate with the sleeve, since you have not modified your overall digestive system. Some people do have intolerances to really dry tough mega or really tough veggies though. Less invasive than the bypass because nothing is rerouted. Only the shape of the stomach is changed. I'm assuming this is what she meant. It is my viewpoint as well, although such terms are naturally subjective. As for the person who said that the complications only happen early on with the sleeve as opposed to the band or bypass, we don't have the science to back this up yet. There is very little data on the sleeve 10+ years out. However, I do believe this will end up being true.

Archaeologists Officially Declare Collective Sigh Over “Paleo Diet”
“You simply do not see specific, trans-regional trends in human subsistence in the archaeological record. People can live off everything from whale blubber to seeds and grasses. You want to know what the ideal human diet consists of? Everything. Humans can and will eat everything, and we are remarkably successful not in spite of this fact, but because of it. Our adaptability is the hallmark of the human species. We’re not called omnivores for nothing.” “Nearly every food item you currently eat today has been modified from its ancestral form, typically in a drastic way, ” he began. “The notion that we have not yet adapted to eat wheat, yet we have had sufficient time to adapt to kale or lentils is ridiculous. In fact, for most practitioners of the Paleo Diet, who are typically westerners, the majority of the food they consume has been available to their gene pool for less than five centuries. Tomatoes, peppers, squash, potatoes, avocados, pecans, cashews, and blueberries are all New World crops, and have only been on the dinner table of African and Eurasian populations for probably 10 generations of their evolutionary history. Europeans have been eating grain for the last 10,000 years; we’ve been eating sweet potatoes for less than 500. Yet the human body has seemingly adapted perfectly well to yams, let alone pineapple and sunflower seeds.” http://mumanu.wordpress.com/2013/11/06/archaeologists-officially-declare-collective-sigh-over-paleo-diet/

Attention ! Australian Sleevers
Want a shock? This photo was taken almost exactly a year ago, at our annual Thanksgiving party for the expats.

Attention ! Australian Sleevers
Welcome! Reza did my sleeve 6 months ago and just removed my gallbladder two days ago. He is brisk and to the point but a great surgeon. I don't recommend his dietitian Andrew. I recommend Diana Barr who also has rooms at the Wesley. With the sleeve and Di's advice I am down nearly 30 kg in the 6 months. I have progressed to being able to run for over am hour straight and I'm thinking of buying a bicycle so I can get more exercise on the weekends. I feel great and love my sleeve

I've been to Auckland and they definitely have McDonalds. How come you had to go to the US to see it! By the way, New Zealand is my favorite country, and the Bay of Islands is my favorite bit.

Calling All Long Term Sleevers!
I had a hard time at first with serving myself too much food, but you can't fit a lot in. It doesn't take much to feel stuffed like Thanksgiving. You get used to it and you make sure to eat the protein first, and a bite or two of veggies. Eventually you can fit a bit more in (by the 6-month mark, I can eat about a cup total) because the swelling has gone completely down. It takes a bit longer to eat because you need to chew carefully, so I don't generally finish before whoever I'm eating with. Really it doesn't take long to get used to it.

Calling All Long Term Sleevers!
You can't post there until you have been sleeved for 6 months, but go and read the veteran's forum. You can learn a lot there. We have several Sleevers more than a year out. CowgirlJane, Fiddlerman, Butterthebean, CLK, Laura-ven, Georgia, coops all are well over a year, and I'm sure I have left a bunch of people out.

I Suffer From Chronic Loose Bowels Does Any One Else Have This Problem?
Could be bile acid diarrhea. Sorry to be gross, but is it liquid and yellow? If so, ask your doctor for Questran. It is a bile acid sequestrant. Some people's bodies produce too much bile and it gets I to the intestine instead of being re absorbed. I have struggled with it for 6 months. I just had to have my gallbladder removed and my doctor said it might have been caused by an over active gallbladder or it might be even worse now because the bile will flow straight through. In either case, the Questran works really well even though it is a bit unpleasant, like drinking Metamucil.

Anger Anyone?
Have you guys considered journaling when you are angry? And maybe asking your family for some alone time or going for a walk? You are wives and mothers but you are individuals too and you need to honor your emotions. Maybe get a babysitter for one evening a week and take yourself out on a date.

The Last 10 Lbs
I'm nowhere near close, but it seems like people have used the 5:2 for the last few pounds. How amazing that you are so close!

I'm an American in Australia and we don't have it either. But it's my favorite holiday so we host it every year here and it's a big hit. We had 30+ people over this past Saturday for the gathering and it was so much fun. I had no trouble eating. I measured my turkey and had a spoonful of all the other things I wanted. The leftovers are almost gone now. Almost everything I'm used to eating for thanksgiving is pretty sleeve-friendly.

Anger Anyone?
If you are used to eating your feelings and you can't do it anymore, they will come to the surface. Realize that anger is not bad, wrong, sinful, whatever. Nobody died from being angry. Let yourself feel it. See if you can trace it. Think back over the last few hours or days. It may be that someone is not treating you right. It may be that people are treating you better since you have lost weight. Or maybe people are putting expectations on you that you aren't comfortable with. I get angry realizing how much of life I missed because I was fat and how many times I decided I wasn't worthy of love or happiness because I was fat. I have had to grieve for my old self and honor my feelings, in order to move forward.

Just fine. IV is out, squeezy leg things are off, had breakfast and about to shower. I've already dealt with work email too. I can't imagine not being able to run by Monday.

I reported her for spreading lies. I'm worried about the people she is influencing, especially pre-ops. It's very dangerous IMHO.

Dr. In My Area No Longer Does Lapband. Ugh!
And staples don't make you vomit. Eating too much food for your anatomy makes you vomit.

Dr. In My Area No Longer Does Lapband. Ugh!
Butter, you did say you don't have staples, right? If so, it seems like NaNa knows more about your surgery than you do.

Dr. In My Area No Longer Does Lapband. Ugh!
Butterthebean, a well-respected sleever with 18 months of the sleeved life, has already told you on another thread that his sleeve was sutured and not stapled. And just because your sister had part of her stomach removed does not mean she had a sleeve. First, she must still have a great deal of fundus tissue if she was actually able to stretch her stomach. There is no reason to assume that the ulcers were in the fundus or that the surgery she had created a thin tube-shaped stomach. So she had an altered stomach but not a gastric sleeve. You actually seem quite fuzzy on what your sister ended up with, which is completely understandable because you aren't her doctor. It also doesn't seem like she is complying with the protocol for the procedure or that she is particularly eager to get the facts. Of course vomiting to the point of tooth damage is not healthy and it's not caused by staples. That is a symptom of bulimia and I pray that your sister seeks help, whether the vomiting is from physical reasons or other reasons. I haven't seen any sleevers misrepresenting the band, but you continue to spread misinformation about the sleeve. I'm sure you mean well, but please consider your "facts" about the sleeve, RNY, or other procedure you haven't had, before you state falsehoods as facts. People are here to find out about all the options and make educated decisions. Spreading misinformation could cause someone to have a procedure that they are not happy with in the long run. If you do want to learn more about the sleeve or RNY I highly recommend the books written by Alex Brecher, who founded this site. Alex is a band patient who had given excellent and objective information about all of the bariatric procedures.

How Many Days/nights In Hospital?
Two nights for me. I could have gone home after the first night because I was already managing the pain without anythi stronger than Tylenol and I had already passed urine, but my surgeon is on the conservative side.

400's 300's
Yep! Look for posts by BigFrank. Also there are forums for support groups by amount to lose, just like there are for region and surgery type. You might also look for 50+ BMI as well as there will probably be a significant overlap. VSG is not only a standalone surgery, but can also be the first part of a two-step surgery called the duodenal switch (DS), which is specifically aimed at people with a very high BMI.
