Great Article On Low-Carb/high Fat Diets
I think you are reading the book that came our of this article? I have started it a couple times but it is so dense (like protein) that I find it hard going. I also find protein to make for very plain eating even though I know it is good. I certainly don't crave it which I guess is the point! It is amazing how easy it is for me to have less than 150 grams of carbs in a day since the sleeve though. I tried Atkins before and found it just impossible. The amount of protein it took to get me full when I had my whole stomach was just unpalatable!

Info From My Surgeon
My sleeve surgeon just did a gallbladder removal for me a couple weeks ago. I saw him today for follow-up and he chatted a bit about a bariatric surgeon conference he just attended in Sydney, AU. Just as background, my surgeon does mostly sleeves and the occasional bypass. He used to do a ton of bands but now only does the band if the patient insists. He still maintains a lot of bands. He said that the band is way down in Australia and whole areas of the country have no band surgeons anymore. He also said that the re-operation rate (for all types of re-operation) is as high as 40% with the band. He said that the band has a lot of potential points of failure, including that the port can flip, the needle can puncture the band during a fill and cause a leak, or lots of other ways that are not really direct failures of the band. He seems pretty down on the band now but wants to give his existing band patients the highest standard of care. He also confirmed that Allergan has sold the lap band to another company, Apollo Endosurgery. I googled that and found a story in the Wall Street Journal. http://m.asia.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702303471004579165961441181356?mobile=y He said that the sleeve is gaining massive popularity because of the low complication rate, high success rate, and that they are starting to feel really confident about the long term prospects of the sleeve, starting to see some patients with more than 10 years sleeved. He said that the sleeve may stretch 3-5% over time but then it stops. He said it is like taking a t-shirt and cutting off a sleeve. You can stretch the sleeve but it will never be nearly as big as the shirt. The bypass is going to be around a long time and is still very well regarded. It is the #1 choice for people with reflux or bowel diseases and it is the best salvage surgery for people who have reflux problems after the sleeve. The DS is very uncommon these days because the sleeve works so well on its own. This is my surgeon's summary to me about the state of bariatric surgery in Australia today from the point of view of the surgeons.

I'm Having A Minor Melt-Down
It took me ages to go from 20w to 20. When I got into normal sizes they started dropping more quickly. A size about every 7 kg (15 lb). I have lost over 60 lb now and gone from that 20w to a 14. So I still have a long way to go. I suspect the sizes will stop dropping as quickly soon. So probably the middle of the journey is where you will change the most.

Hypothesis About The Code In Posts In The App
The version of HTML is on the server in the actual web page. It is specified at the top of the file in an area called the DTD. You can see it if you choose View Source in your browser. Deprecated tags are not required to be supported by the browsers but still typically work for a while after deprecation. But it is not likely that Kathy is using that tag on purpose. Somehow it is being inserted into her posts.

Today .... Happy. Nervous. Excited. Jesus Take The Wheel
The first three days are the worst, but if you stick to the letter of the law, after day 3 it gets a lot easier. But cheating makes the whole 3-day thing start over, so don't even think about it. You got this!

What Are You Packing For Lunch?
I posted a few recipes for purée things that you put in muffin cups, during my purée phase. pumpkin ricotta, chicken burrito, chicken rice, and another one. You will find them if you search the food and nutrition section for my posts. One muffin cup = one serving and I was aiming for 6 per day. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/251749-how-to-puree-chicken/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/251750-chicken-burrito-puree/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/251752-chicken-casserole-puree/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/251755-spiced-pumpkin-ricotta-puree/ http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/251754-tuna-casserole-puree/ You can freeze them all and just microwave them.

Hypothesis About The Code In Posts In The App
Second to last post here: <a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/200121-who-are-you/'>http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/200121-who-are-you/</a> And if I click it to see the HTML, it has a terrible pink cursive font. Also every post by one specific user. Username likasulema, aka Kathy. She is a sleeve vet and really helpful but all her posts show as code now. I think she had set her default font to be wrapped in <strong> tags.

Lapband Vs Sleeve Vs Bypass Surgery
FYI the gastric bypass and RNY are the same surgery.

Hypothesis About The Code In Posts In The App
I think the people who have all the code in their posts have used the website's capability to adjust the font and colors in their posts. I seem to recall you could change your default font style, size, and color and it would affect all your posts. If that is the case, can you guys just disable that capability? It is actually a bad idea for accessibility reasons anyway, especially for people with low vision or color blindness. Also Alex I know you said you hired someone to do this app. I hope you have since fired them, that's all I'm gonna say about that. The website itself is much better than before though!

My Lunch: A Pictorial Attempt To Show You Life Will Be Normal
Ok my lunch today. It won't be everyone's cup of tea but here goes. 50 grams roast beef lunch meat 1/4 cup German selleriesalat (like sauerkraut but with celery root) 1 baby be 1.5 "stiratini" hard bread sticks Sriracha sauce for dipping the bread sticks The breadsticks are relatively low carb, go down easy, and ease the craving for bread. 190 calories and 16 grams of Protein.

My Lunch: A Pictorial Attempt To Show You Life Will Be Normal
I had 3/4 of a homemade burrito last night. Flour tortilla, steak strips (I diced mine after they were cooked, refried beans, tomato, salsa, shredded cheese, a little lettuce. The amount of filling was small by the standards of pre-op but it tasted amazing and went down fine. I left about 1/3 of the tortilla and about 1/4 of the filling behind. But this is another point about being able to have your favorite foods again. If I ordered a restaurant burrito I would use a knife and fork, and pick out what I wanted from it and probably leave 2/3 behind, but it would still taste great.

Honest Answers Only!
If you can't do a pre-op diet you may not be emotionally ready for surgery. Post-op, attempting to cheat could kill you. It really is life or death. If you aren't ready for surgery don't have it yet. Wait a while.

Can The Sleeve End A Lifetime Of Yo-Yo?
I will tell you in a couple years. But from reading the stories from people here who are 1, 2, 3, 5 years out? Yep.

My Lunch: A Pictorial Attempt To Show You Life Will Be Normal
It's not very photogenic but another Indian dish that is sleeve friendly is dal fry. It is the Indian equivalent of refried Beans, I guess. To make it healthier substitute the ghee for oil and just use less. It is basically lentils cooked to mush with sautéed onions, chilies and spices stirred through it. But yeah. Photos of it look like brown goo.

True Life Story
What a blessing but what an adjustment. I think that puts all the "small stuff" into perspective, doesn't it? And yeah, you look just alike. Uncanny!

3 Year Anniversary
I think that is one of the hard things. We grow up as girls dreaming about going to the prom, going dancing, the wedding. And always those beautiful dresses that look perfect on slim figures. Then if you are overweight or obese when the time comes, it just takes a little bit of the shine off. I feel like there was so much I had to "settle" for when I was obese. It is too bad. It that's just the way society is, I guess. I'm thankful that I can make new memories now though, and I feel like I have picked up some wisdom along the way that not everyone else would have.

Attention ! Australian Sleevers
You look so great! You have stunning legs. I would never guess you had been overweight. Wow, lady!

My Mum
It sounds like she is depressed and lonely. Some communities have services where the elderly can talk to a counselor and/or get involved in some social activities such as a walking group, book club, craft club, or gardening group. I wonder if your mum would be open to any of these. It doesn't sound like the food is a problem but it is a symptom. At any rate, I really feel for your mum and for you. What a tough situation. I wonder if you could go with her to her next doctor appointment and have a word with her doctor.

3 Year Anniversary
Awesome! You look great. The wedding photo .. I was heavy when I got married too, and I loved my wedding but the photos also make me sad. I have thought of renewing our vows maybe for our 20th anniversary (still 7 years away) so I can be thin in wedding photos. Is that weird?
